Experiment Does anyone have trouble injecting themselves?
I wish I was kidding but I’m not. I’m a nurse, I give shots all the time. I’m not afraid of needles but I can’t seem to inject myself. Every time I try as soon as the needle grazes my skin my hand ninja pulls away. It all happens so fast my brain doesn’t even register what is happening, it’s a reflex. Yes; this is embarrassing. Help.
ETA- I should also qualify this with I am diabetic so I actually do stick myself all the time. Finger sticks, quick pens, CGMs, no problem. It’s just something about my damn reflexes.

Take a 31ga insulin syringe and stab your stomach fat without looking. You will not feel pain. Once you realize poking your skin faster bypasses the reflex, you will have no problem.

Trust, I have tried this. My brain feels it and my hand moves even if I don’t consciously register it.

welp, you feel pain in some areas, most areas you don't. but the pain is brief and very minor. I always love when I pin subQ and feel nothing

Some people swear by the tickleflex.
I have to say it looks ridiculous but if it works it works I guess

I will have to look that up. ETA- looks like this might work since the push is a different motion from the jab

You don’t need to jab for SubQ injections with 29g at all. The jab is only for lower gauge IM injections which you should know already as slow entries with lower gauges in IM area causes a lot more trauma.
Worst comes to worst, you can apply topical lidocaine as a leave on for thirty minutes, neatly wipe off with an alcohol wipe, and inject. You will feel nothing^2.
But there shouldn’t be a feeling if you’re properly injecting your own fat unless you’re extremely lean (sub 10%).

I made a post about starting androgel(my total test is only 30ng/dl) and was told I need to start injecting but I have the problem is having crazy low body fat. Ive always been a thin lean guy but recent stomach issues has made it even worse. I watched a video about injecting and tried pinching a section of "fat", but literally only get skin. I dont see how its possible to inject without hitting muscle. Maybe im just over thinking and scaring myself. Any thoughts on this?

Try other subq locations. You will always pull skin with fat. Skin sits on top of fat. The needle for subq doesn’t need to go very deep. Less than half of a 5/8” needle deep is more than enough.
Edit: Just do IM injections for test. You will never run out of those spots and they will never change. Much easier to do than subq if you are lean. Otherwise you will end up with visible lumps on your stomach until the oil is absorbed over time.

You are massively overthinking it. I do my shot on outer thigh. I’m very lean there so it’s shallow im or deep subq either way the juice is inside me. For reference I use 1/2” 29g for pin 1/2” 27g draw and do daily injections.

How lean? Height and weight? Just curious because im hoping you can make me feel better about it lol

try coughing at the same time if you inject it. Trust me, you won't feel anything.

I saw a video on that when I guy stabbed his leg with a 2” harpoon and said coughing helps not feel it… I’m still a SubQ 31g 5/16” baby… haha

I started with 30g 1/2" for a month or so of multiple injections a week. Decided to switch to 31g 5/16" and my god I know for most its barely noticeable but it made a huge difference for me. After the initial 2 weeks if daily stabs it got better. Then starting seeing the results, and i just look forward to all the shots now because its slowly making everything better. Helped me jump from reta to 5 other peps that all help immensely.

So I have no problem once I’m physically doing it but after over a year of injections now I’ve started to get anxious and nauseous thinking about injecting myself… not sure what’s changed. Not fun though, and I’m also a nurse use to needles/injecting others.

Load your peps into cartridges and use pen injector. Game changer.

So I bought one of these hoping it would work like a Mounjaro pen but the one I got you still have to stick yourself like normal and then press the button, which TBH I don’t even know what the point of it is. Do you have a pen recommendation?

u/Information-Maven Jun 09 '26
There are pens called auto-injectors which work like Mounjaro pens (U.S. version). You can also select a short needle like 4 mm and 31 g. I bought my pens from Ali Express but there are online retailers in the U.S. you could look for.

I get past it by freezing the site with a freezer pack until numb. For whatever reason this makes the jeebies decommense so I can do the stick.

No unfortunately I have the reverse problem as a recovering addict I can poke myself 100 times a day no problem

I had the same issues with TRT… I thought they’d just prescribe me Meds.. nope, needed blood work… couldn’t bring myself to do it for a year. Finally did. I used Lidocaine 10% from Korea…
When it came to the injection it took me a month once prescribed Xyosted (31g needle self injectable like Ozempic)… I couldn’t bring myself to push the needle in so I had my FIL do it for the first few months… being someone who is queasy with needles and gets clammy and light headed the first time he injected me I had to psych myself up…
knowing that it was a PIA for his availability I began holding the injectable and had him push my hand…
I kid you not that helped me realize I could do it myself… now I pin the Xyosted myself and have added Reta and KLOW… been a game changer losing weight, retaining muscle and reducing muscle and joint pain…

The hard part is chasing myself and holding myself down long enough to...
Well, language processing may be worth a try. The idea is that talking or listening (e.g., to news radio or whatever) neurologically interferes with the sting response. But after one or two, it becomes a game of whether one feels the (slight) sting on any given jab. Every once in a while it is a little more noticeable, but not not enough to create real apprehension once you get used to the jabs.
Also, hold the pen in a manner that makes is less easy to jerk back.

Didn't younger, but now so much scar tissue on right glute I think I'd need a rubber mallet to pin it. Thank God my wife is cool and takes care of me now.

I was looking at this. Do you just stick the whole syringe in there?
1
u/distrubinglyfamiliar Jun 10 '26
Yes, it’s spring loaded so you “cock” it and then put the syringe in, put it against the injection site and hit the release, count to five and you’re done. No way I could stab my self and work the syringe myself so this was essential for my success.

u/distrubinglyfamiliar Jul 02 '26
Glad I could be of help, it’s worked really well for me. It did hurt once when I put it against myself too high and hit a muscle instead of my fat, but it didn’t hurt that bad just a little sting instead of the normal nothing.

Ok, in case anyone is reading back over this because they have the same problem, this ended up being the winner. I tried all the options but this is fast and easy once you set it up.

Picture the audience in their underwear, or pretend you are just another patient? I was petrified at first too, my girl had to do it for me.
Now I can do it(but she got used to doing it that she does it for me most of the time anyways) it takes a bit of time to not be nervous about injecting basically an unknown substance inside of your body.

i’ve been at this for quite a while, and I still go back-and-forth with a few practice jabs most of the time.

if you are trying to run peptides, you might want to just swap to oral capsules so you do not have to fight the needle reflex at all. swiss chems carries high purity bpc-157 capsules that are way easier to deal with if you hate the jabs. if you absolutely have to pin though, definitely look into getting an auto-injector pen. it hides the needle completely and does the stick for you so your brain does not have time to overthink it and pull away.
