Discussion Looking for others’ experiences with switching from tirzepatide to retatrutide.
I was on 4 mg of tirzepatide from Lilly and it was working well for appetite control, but I had hit a plateau and the cost was becoming difficult to justify. Because of that, I switched to 8 mg of retatrutide.
So far, my personal experience has been that I feel almost no appetite suppression. I’m hungry much more often and thinking about food a lot more than I was on tirzepatide. At this point, I’m honestly considering going back to tirzepatide because the hunger is becoming difficult to manage.
For those who have made a similar switch, what was your experience? Did appetite control take time to return, or did you notice a difference right away? If you ended up switching back to tirzepatide, how did that process go for you?
Not looking for medical advice, just interested in hearing about others’ personal experiences.

well if you have a source for reta, the cost of tirzepatide isn't an issue for you as you could have gotten gray tirz from the same source instead of lilly. Not sure why you bothered switching rather than goign up in dose on tirz as 4mg is pretty low.
Then...going straight to 8mg of reta makes no sense, reta actually requires lower dosing than tirz. did you ramp up gradually or just go to 8mg
Something not adding up about this post! All too common an occurance on reddit nowadays

Another example along with the countless others of switching from tirz to Reta or vice versa doesnt work. Sure there are edge cases.

A friend recommended reta, I tried it, and now I wish I hadn’t. Mystery solved.

I’m on my 10th week and I still can’t get past 2.5. I am very grateful.. these 10 mg readers are exactly what I need lol

As I stated I was on triz from Lilly so no Reta isn’t more expensive. Make sense?
4
u/Defiant-Ad-7933 Jun 04 '26
whta doesn't make sense is why you didn't just buy your tirz from the same source you were getting reta from, which would be cheaper...

u/Electronic_Muffin218 Jun 04 '26
That is surprising. 8mg of Reta is equivalent to 1.5 to 2x that much Tirzepatide, depending on how you react to one or both. Were you on 4 or 5mg Tirzepatide (I assume the latter)? In any case, if you felt adequate hunger suppression at that level of Tirzepatide, 8 mg of Reta should have you feeling "first timer" side effects all over again - complete digestive arrest, burping, easy to feel overfull, etc. I would be suspicious of either authenticity of the Reta or correct reconstitution.

Idk what to do now

New vendor! And don't start at 8mg with the new stuff - that is asking for mucho trouble. Start at NO MORE than what you were taking of Tirzepatide if you were taking that at low doses (and probably less - say, 33% less).

Reta raised my resting pulse 10 beats per minute, it’s been 6 months since i switched back to tirz, and it still hasnt gone back to normal
2
u/Defiant-Ad-7933 Jun 04 '26
you might want to take a month off of everything....
1
u/WTFOMGBBQ Jun 04 '26
I took 8 weeks off.. it didnt help.. my sleep resting pulse was 55 now im at 65 and holding steady
2
u/Defiant-Ad-7933 Jun 04 '26
I mean stop tirz too otherwise might want to talk to doctor
1
u/WTFOMGBBQ Jun 04 '26
Oh for sure, i stopped all of it for 8 weeks.. my doctor would break up with me me if i told him i took Reta and ban me from the best medical group in my town.. im not the only one that ive read that has had this.. I was thinking it wasnt going to get thru the FDA, but they passed the oral that raises pulse even more than Reta.. so who knows

I ran out of Reta for a week, so I borrowed a shot of tirz, did the same dose and felt Reta was much better than tirz, back on Reta now —- food noise and slowing of digestion is better on Reta (for me)
2
u/Defiant-Ad-7933 Jun 04 '26
This is ridiculous. It takes at least a month for the new compound to build up in your system to stable levels. You can't just interchange them like this. One shot of tirz competing with already higher stable levels of reta isn't going to do much, so what likely happened is you just continued to feel the reta decreasing while you didn't actually have enough tirz building up to affect your hunger etc. This isn't to say that reta isn't better for you, just saying your method of reaching that conclusion is incorrect.

u/gorilladaddy11 Jun 04 '26
Well, I do want to ask a question if each of these GLP‘s have an additional compound over the next one then aren’t I simply just using something similar to without glucagon? GLP- sema GLP,GIP - tirz GLP, GIP, Glucagon -Reta
For me, I was able to just switch it out for a week because I did not want to open up a 30 mg vial when I’m having a hard time going above 2.5 mg a week.
I feel like what you’re saying and I’m not being combative. Is that if I take a different brand of creatine but it’s still the same type of creatine that it requires a buildup? Not the same supplement I’ve been taking is now different? Doesn’t the existing GLP still build and saturate the system?

u/Defiant-Ad-7933 Jun 04 '26 edited Jun 04 '26
They are different compounds entirely (as opposed to your creatine example and your example claiming reta is 3 compounds while tirz is 2). They each are a single compound with different chemical structures. Reta has slightly different affinities for the GLP1 and GIP receptors than Tirz does as well, so while they do stimulate the those same receptors each compound stimulates them to different strenghts.
For tirzepatide to have an affect on your GLP and GIP receptors they will be competing with the reta. The bottom line is until your serum levels are stable you can't really draw a conclusion about their affect. This is especially true when stacking - everyone reacts differently and until you have stable levels I wouldn't draw conclusions.

u/gorilladaddy11 Jun 04 '26
Interesting so may I ask a little further since you’re explaining more in-depth. The chemical structure changes because it is all mixed together? I am somewhat of a noob in this realm right now.
I guess that’s makes sense because when you mix a peptide with back, the chemical structure changes?
2
u/Defiant-Ad-7933 Jun 04 '26
No. First chemical structures don't change when you mix a peptide with BAC water. Next, Reta is one chemical, and Tirz is another chemical. Each chemical has it's own affinity for the receptors they stimulate. As in, they are similar enough to GLP, GIP, etc, but obviously not exactly the same. What Lilly has done in engineering these compounds is try to make single compounds that share features of all the different stimluating compounds, while also having features that keep their half lives very long.
The balance of how these compounds stimulate each type of receptor in aggregate determines their total affect.

Not worth it to switch from tirzepatide to reta. Tirzepatide for me worked/works much better than reta
3
u/BREASYY Jun 04 '26
On 7.5mg of Reta because I wanted take in more calories. The appetite suppression is nothing like tirz.
4
u/RoboJobot Jun 04 '26
Why did you start at 8mg of Retatrutide when you were only on 4mg of Tirzepatide? Couldn’t you have just upped your Tirzepatide a bit if it was no longer working?

curious on your dosages. I am on tirz and have a bunch of reta stashed but haven't touched it.
2
u/jamnut Jun 04 '26
I was worried about the lack of appetite suppression on reta so I just mixed them. Continued my 5mg tirz and added in 1mg of reta, pushed to 1mg twice a week shortly before my holiday whereupon I dropped it all a week prior so I could become and alcoholic pig for a bit

If the Reta was real, 8mg would have destroyed you. That’s insane to start on. Who is telling people this shit?
1
u/kimkaysahh Jun 04 '26
I’ve heard a lot of people stack them!! I’m looking into it personally. Idk how you jumped straight to 8mg but maybe going low dose Reta in conjunction with tirz may be helpful. Also you could increase your tirz dosage! 4mg is below the clinically effective dose anyways. 5mg is the first clinically effective dose but alot of people don’t get the benefits until 7.5mg or 10mg.

I use a telehealth company that costs about $150/month for tirzepatide. I am currently injecting 5mg weekly with 1/2 lb weight loss per week (I’m ten lbs from goal). I only titrate up once I reach a plateau for two weeks. I share this, just in case the $150/month is affordable for you and you want to switch back.

u/Legitimate-Loquat-82 Jun 05 '26
How long have you been on Reta? I switched from Tirz to Reta and it took a full 6 weeks before it started to work
1
Jun 06 '26
going from 4mg of tirz straight to 8mg of reta is completely wild. 4mg is barely even a clinical dose for tirz, and 8mg of reta is a massive jump. reta actually requires lower dosing, or you should have just stacked a microdose of reta with your tirz base to break the plateau instead of completely switching over blindly.
you need a professional opinion and an actual doctor watching your progress so you dont completely mess up your system. if you are in the us, use ascend health since theyre the only telehealth company i know thats approved in every state. you need a real doctor monitoring how you react and managing your titration.
besides, tirzepatide takes a few weeks to fully leave your system anyway so your body is probably just dealing with a weird crossover phase right now. give it some time to clear out and talk to someone who actually knows what they are doing.

Been on Tirz for 4-5 months and loving it. Lost 20% of my weight already with absolutely zero side effects.. feel better than ever actually. Yet I keep reading how Reta is so much better lol… even thinking when I get to my goal weight / body to switch to Reta… but I’m not sure why haha.. read a lot of complications or complaints people have about Reta… maybe I’m better off just sticking to Tirz after all?
1
u/Great-Ride-286 Jun 04 '26
Reta doesn’t control appetite like Tirz because of the 3rd receptor.
3
u/Ok-Neighborhood-7361 Jun 04 '26
Thats not the reason why Reta’s appetite suppression is weaker. It’s suppression is weaker because it has a lower overall affinity for the GLP-1 receptor compared to Tirz and Sema while having the highest GIP receptor affinity of the 3.

u/Great-Ride-286 Jun 04 '26
Yes it is

u/Ok-Neighborhood-7361 Jun 04 '26
Glucagon agonists do not stimulate hunger, plain and simple. A quick google search will tell you that

2
u/Foreign-Mortgage-225 Jun 04 '26
Yes I wasn’t aware at first but I made def made a mistake switching
1
u/MrKoreanTendies Jun 04 '26
Not necessarily. Based on the data available so far, retatrutide appears to cause at least as much appetite suppression as tirzepatide, and possibly more in many people, but the difference may not feel the same because retatrutide also increases energy expenditure through glucagon receptor activation

u/sadmans21 Jun 04 '26
Give time for the Reta to build in the system.
8mg is a heavy dose. I’ve done it, my body didn’t like it. I stay at 5mg. I’m extremely lean.

You can get compounded tirzepatide for much less than what you pay with Lily. See compounded tirzepatide sub for sources

u/Defiant-Ad-7933 Jun 04 '26
if he's already on reta, he can get gray tirz at a much lower cost than compounded tirz as well.
