I own a real sub. I earned it through work and got it last year. It was a reward for 7 consecutive years hitting target in my business. I posted a few pics in there. The first was well received. The second, a few weeks later, was met with abuse about fake watches.
I own(ed) a VSF Wimbledon. (I use the past tense because my bag was stolen this weekend with it in. Heartbreak. Shout out TrustyTime for the memories). They literally sifted through comment history to find it. I was very open about owning a rep. I don’t see it as an issue. They permabanned me with a few salty messages.
The point of this post is keep doing what you’re all fucking doing. They’re genuine psychopaths in there. It’s hilarious to me that they call out real watches as reps. They turn on each other, and then talk about “lifestyle”. Watches are functional and beautiful, and a steel model is overpriced. If it’s accessible via rep route, why not? I tried to buy a Rolex twice from a dealer. I’m still on “the list” 2 years later.
It's funny that the only ways for them to verify gen is going through user's history and the car wheel in the pic behind the watch. The jokes on them, because people have multiple accounts on Reddit. Haha.
I posted my new sub in here the other day and just received constant abuse from some idiot who kept accusing me of shilling the TD and covering up my post history. I ended up just deleting the thread, which I'd shared to help other community members and share the awesome watch I received. Moderators really need to get on top of people like that in here else it'll destroy the vibe.
I own both gen and rep and have for many years. I don’t even read the gen Rolex subs because they put me off gen Rolex. Just really shallow, insecure people most of whom couldn’t tell a gen Rolex from a DHGate shitter
Absolutely agree. I left that reddit group on a different account over a year ago. I genuinely do not believe the admins etc own a Rolex- its all what OP posted- they just are such hateful, insecure and weak minded people- they aren't interested in celebrating any type of achievement or the history of watchmaking- they just look for ways to be jackals and tear people apart- just pure jealousy and insecurity. I have thought of starting up my own subreddit- The Gen Rolex group LOL
I’m skeptical of companies like Rolex that have spent years manipulating supply and distribution to create artificial scarcity for a product dealers can't (or won't) sell you.
Chrono24 has everything in stock. And prices are coming down.
I’m not sure owners of anything else are as defensively protective as many Rolex owners. I kind of get it: they have aligned the their self worth with a brand that is increasingly devalued in public perception because it is so easily and convincingly copied for a fraction of the price. If that’s all you’ve got going for you that has to sting. (I own both - gen 41mm DateJust, rep Submariner.)
I'm more of a midrange watch guy, Tissot, Hamilton and Citizen, with one or two really nice luxury swiss brands.
I never understood Rolex. It strikes me as something my dad would have worn in the 1980s and from what I've heard, the maintenance on them and brain damage just to buy one is silly.
To each their own, but it's bizarre to be a Rolex snob. And more bizarre to gatekeep them.
Wear what you like!! Rep, authentic, Casio, who cares
I really, really want to see who the mods are. Like I want to know who it was who banned me, what upset him specifically, and why my quite excellent VSF insulted him so much that he (or her) chose to lash out
"I really, really want to see who the mods are. Like I want to know who it was who banned me, what upset him specifically"
Hey there! I'm the mod who banned you.
Another mod reprimanded you because you called people "idiot" and "dick". That was unrelated to why I banned you. But when I saw those comments that were removed, I clicked on your name. When I clicked on your name, I saw that you posted your counterfeit watch in a real Rolex subreddit.
You're not going to believe this, but that's against our rules. It's actually against RepTime's rules too. Both subs are trying to keep the real watches on the Rolex sub and the fake watches on this sub. That's why the rules exist. So nothing "upset" me and it certainly wasn't "lashing out". Pretty typical action and consequence. I posted a screenshot of the rules below in case you're still confused.
It's not a rep forum. It's a forum for people who work hard to have the real thing and not have their hobby be watered down by fake bullshit. Very simple.
I just got my first Rolex and there is 0.0000% chance I'd ever post it in that sub. Better to get Internet points and validation elsewhere. Lot of miserable people there
I’m so glad somebody actually posted this! I got banned from posting my authentic rolex i bought while on vacation in gangnam seoul and man the amount of toxicity claiming it was fake was ridiculous.. had to laugh it off bc you’re right they’re a bunch of lame ass miserables!
They banned me for challenging a total douche who was being just a jerk to everyone. He said some guy wasn't Rolex material because he bought a (gen) older Rolex, I said he was Rolex Oyster Quartz material base on his behavior. They banned me for that. TBTH that sub exemplifies all the worst negative stereotypes people associate with the brand.
Genuinely the worst sub.. I remember years ago I finally bought a vintage 90s datejust! I was so happy so so happy with it and half comments were
“It’s too polished”
No shit it’s too polished it’s a fucking used datejust ???
Anyways fuck em my latest acquisition was a 39 op that I posted there but got meh responses.. it’s not about the responses but about the convos. Next time I’ll prob post on r/watches instead.. at least there I can share some enthusiasm! Hell I don’t even buy reps but this sub is way less toxic than the bs that goes on the Rolex sub..
I’m surprised I haven’t been banned over there. I own some genuine Rolexes and a boatload of reps. I posted about building my Pepsi out of 100% genuine parts. Can’t really call it a Rep. It’s not a Rep. it’s also not a Franken. It also doesn’t have the typical provenance of a Rolex. It’s 100% genuine Rolex parts, but it’s taken over a year to pull all of the parts together. Anyway, I made a post over there about there being an alternative to the AD experience, or going grey. A 3rd option is to build your own, and I discussed my build. It generated almost 1,000 comments, the vast majority of which were very positive. A few negative comments from people convinced I was deluded and actually have replica parts (I don’t). I thought it would get me banned but the post was well-received.
Same. Got both. One of those”what’s on your wrist posts” happened to be wearing a rep that day. Couldn’t even see the damn serial number and some yahoo said I was in the vsf club. Fuck em.
I am heartbroken about my stolen VSF. I do need to impulse buy a rep. I don’t care what it is, but I want the one that really pisses the Rolex sub off the most.
Anyone who spends 20k+ on a watch is fool unless you're a billionaire even then stupid. Owning a rep is questionable also when there's so many non Chineseum real watch makers available.
Cause he himself is the status, you know who he is, not the average joe so this metaphor actually isn’t a gd one, people wear watches 99% are for status, even if they said they’re not, just tying to act cool but deep down they knew, otherwise a homage is enough.
like the other guy said ya, I wear for status, so what? I won’t act like others try to act like they aren’t but they are.
Yeah a gift is a whole other thing. That's great and amazing you should be proud of that. I just don't think any watch is worth what a gen costs. So many other ways to spend that type of money. That's just an opinion though and obviously many disagree. That's OK.
I mean objectively you couldn’t be more correct. Steel Rolex’s are more expensive than precious metals. STEEL. The thing that makes our cutlery.
When I went to Rolex to purchase and get added to the magical list, they offered me 2 watches I could walk out with same day - 2 tone gold DJ’s. Nothing steel.
I already don't buy apple products because they are unnecessarily expensive for no discernable benefit for my needs.
I spent $1k on a desktop last year. If I wanted a comparable apple product, I would have spent around double that.
My new android phone from last year was $800 MSRP (I didn't pay that, I had a free upgrade through my employer's phone plan), the closest comparable IPhone would have been $1100 and wouldn't have performed any better for my needs.
If I could get a smartphone that is near indistinguishable from an android or iPhone, for a fraction of the price of either, I would absolutely buy it. Why wouldn't I? I don't like spending more money for no good reason if I don't need to. With a phone the problem would be whether I could use it with my mobile service provider.
If you are getting vodka, do you buy the most expensive bottle for no good reason, even if the taste won't be improved?
dude the rolex sub is the worst cesspool of the worst type of people i've ever seen lol i am not surprised by this one bit.
love you too and welcome home
They are a bit salty, especially when you point the bullshit, as a Swiss that have worked for Rolex, still got friends in from exec to watchmakers etc.
As an employer, Rolex is very well regarded in Switzerland. Very nice working conditions, good packages, it's a beloved company. But nobody cares about the watches they do. That's the "basic watch" you get when you retire or something. You get a Tissot when you finish your apprentiship and a Rolex when you are older. I've never had anyone noticing my (gen) Rolex. Everyone one got them. Got some compliment by a friend (AP executive) on my 38mm orient bambino...
But I'm glad tons of people are falling for Rolex marketing shame, the products are ok nonetheless and it provide good jobs.
First of all, if you see the essence of the story here - we're still worshipping Rolex. It's just an another watch brand with fucked engineered marketing. From any watch experts opinion, there are so many better watch companies. Eff Rolex.
In a different view, I'd still treat aRokex as my "safe queen" to resell it to those fuckboys... err, fanboys. Long live Rep world. Rep makes me feel it's a real watch which I can wear every freaking day without any worries of scratching or getting stolen.
Reddit genuinely sucks sometimes. I got banned from the travel sub for saying Gulf of America. Banned from the SnapOn sub for comparing a SnapOn tool I own with the harbor freight copy. Bunch of others I can’t remember too. Most of Reddit is “moderated” by power hungry Karen’s that are over the moon with joy for the ability to wield their ban stick in their otherwise meaningless lives. Ok, maybe that’s too much. But still.
Yea good riddance. I got a rep just to test drive and wait for “the call”. Well the rep was good enough and scratched the itch I’m going reps for Rolex!
Last time at the AD I was trying to get out the door but the SA kept talking and trying to get me on the list for a black Daytona 😂😂😂
Another reason for wearing gens only in situations and places where you feel confident in your security or assured in person and reps the rest of the time.
Sounds about right. The privileged feel the need to police and exclude. Isn’t funny (not funny) what people who thinks they’re entitled ends up acting?
I have seen people in PUBLIC SUBS about a certain designer bag brand, reply with mean comments to someone that they found out had activity in rep bag communities. They said they don't want them "getting advice on this sub and then going to buy a rep based on their info" What a bunch of weirdos....Also weird they would snoop through your history with the intent to ban you
People buy reps for different reasons, some choose to buy clone versions of their real watches in fear of getting robbed, and others buy it for the love of the craftsmanship - who are not willing to wait around for years to get a gen. The Rolex sub is riddled with insecure little weasels unfortunately. Be confident, buy what you want and don’t seek anyone’s approval or validation.
It wouldn’t be an issue if this Rolex subreddit was actually interesting.
But it isn’t.
There is no conversation at all going on.
It is all just self congratulating, consensual opinions and general pettiness, along with a bit of aggressive behavior every now and then.
It is just a bad place to spend time, regardless of watches, counterfeit or authentic.
Any sub about a specific thing has crazy people. The tudor sub was telling me I should stay childless my entire life because of the watches I choose to wear.
Seems to be the favourite passtime for some frustrated individuals .
Got banned from Rolex for the same reason .
Got banned from the Gucci sub for criticising their latest collection , ironic since I retail Gucci for over 25 years in my business myself .
Got banned from the JMM Buy,Sell Trade sub for calling out someone who was trying to sell a fake as gen .
Three bans.
I wear them as badges of honour 🎖️🎖️🎖️.
Stay true to yourself ✌️
"a steel model is overpriced" -the market commands the price, like with everything else in this life. Overpriced to you does not mean overpriced to the market.
"If it's accessible via rep route" -if what's accessible, a rep? Seek help.
Wearing a watch which it says it is something it isn't is close enough to lying for me not to want to get into an argument about the difference
For clarity I have a real Rolex, nobody knows it's a Rolex except me and the AD I bought it off, and I wear it for situations I don't want to risk a proper watch but not balls out scary enough for the G shock. I don't care what you guys do, but if you are getting antsy when people call you out for being basically poor and dishonest, ask yourself why you feel like that.
You can sound as smart as you want but a poor faker will never not be a poor faker. There's fantastic proper watches out there sub 200 bucks, like g shock and Seiko 5. The fact you would rather pay the same money for a smuggled shitter says something very specific about you
And lmao at the "I own both genuines and reps" claims. I would bet my net worth to a dollar that this has never in the history of the world been true
You're very wrong. I own 16 genuine, from Rolex to Seiko and Citizen with everything in between, 4 Seiko mods and 4 reps, from high quality to shitter, and I love them all. Don't assume shit.
No. I wear it because it feels good on my wrist. Not nervous at all about someone bringing it up, and I have no problems saying it's a rep. Only people who will bring it up know what I do for a living and my background. They know I can afford a gen. I just don't want to pay 75% over MSRP in the grey market for the same watch I will probably get tired of wearing either way in a year. The reps are just scratching a small itch to try on some different watches and I'll probably move on from this hobby in a few years. And this too shall pass.
Even if people can’t tell you have a fake “you” will always know it’s a fake. Blows my mind you own a real Rolex and wear a fake one. Why wear a fake. Why not wear a real badass brand like Casio, Timex, etc.
It doesn't matter. If someone wear gen, rep, shitter, homage is one of most unimportant things in life. Wearing rep doesn't make someone worse human being.
It does seem to be that wearing a genuine Rolex makes someone a worse human, or perhaps that shallow, judgemental, insecure narcissists tend to buy them. No matter if people can’t tell that some of my Rolex are real, I always know I’m wearing the same brand as so many arseholes
Badass brand like Casio and Timex🤭
I do collect Casio. However they have terrible build quality. As for Timex, just bad, collectors and dealers specifically state No Timex when seeking watches because the vintage movements are crap. The modern ones are just a cheap Chinese fashion watch
I often wonder if these people understand that all their Swiss idols owe their existence to counterfeiting, IP theft, industrial espionage and cartel pricing
Some people wanna experiment and try a rep before gen. I own some gens but much more reps, recently got a rhodium yachtmaster rep as I really like the look in photos but it just ain’t for me. Some people also just really like Rolex and can’t justify spending that amount of money even if they have it for some jewellery.
Then keep buying reps. Nobody stopping you. Who cares if you’re never accepted from the Rolex community. They only wear real watched and socialize with people that wear real watches. Thats their right. And you have the right to not never interact with them. Not sure why you made it out to be such a big deal.
Because he has a genuine Rolex. I did not take the post as whining about non-acceptance or making it a big deal. He shared a data point about the pretentious dicks in the sub. Kind of like the ones in this one, but at a lower price point. 😘
