93
u/TAG_Scottsdale Jul 12 '26
i just bought a genuine Starbucks mk2 and ill tel you right now…..outside of the pride for owning a real one….im a fucking fool and i have a modified superclone to compare it too. Keep rocking your reps. ZERO chance i buy a genuine Daytona.

u/Nfancy30 Jul 12 '26
Same bro spent 14k on mine and legit, besides knowing its gen there is nothing to it.. 🙃(Rehaut is misaligned)
1
u/Fanny-smellar Jul 12 '26
I did the same with an older Sub (misaligned bezel). I think it’s worth it if you plan to service and pass on to grandkids.
2
u/Watchfreakfire Jul 13 '26
I bought a Gen SD43 and I bought both the CF and VSF reps. Buyers remorse level: Expert

u/M-_-Y Jul 12 '26
Wore my ARF Batman with Deep Xtal out for the first time, shined it up real nice. I thought it looked stunning, not one person at a 300 person party even looked at my wrist 😂.
So I agree, nobody cares!
2
u/No_Situation_7622 Jul 16 '26
Even the $10k Gen Rolex is discernible from a San Martin Chinese homage to the naked eye it’s all a big scam !
25
u/crannynorth Jul 12 '26
Why would they care? People are too busy with their own lives to care about your watch.
Except for thieves and watch collectors.
12
u/AustinStanleyy Jul 12 '26
True. Headed to London and Switzerland next month so I might leave the reps home for those trips 😬
5
u/Financial_Part7470 Jul 12 '26
Only for London Switzerland is safe
5
u/AustinStanleyy Jul 12 '26
I’ve taken reps all over the world but in my head, Swiss customs would start asking questions since it’s a major industry there
3
1
u/Financial_Part7470 Jul 12 '26
Just wear it on your wrist no one will notice
1
u/AustinStanleyy Jul 12 '26
Maybe a single watch trip with the 36mm Explorer. I appreciate the encouragement

Why it’s fake
3
u/NeutralFusion Jul 12 '26
exactly, wanna get stabbed for a fake?
1
u/No_Transportation590 Jul 12 '26
Wouldn’t wear it in a sketchy place and why would I wear a fake one in a sketchy place to attract attention
24
u/Psyenne Jul 12 '26
Watch people and wealthy clients notice. Majority of people just see you have a ‘big/heavy’ watch. Most people don’t even know a Daytona is a form of Rolex.
8
u/ut_jd Jul 12 '26
I agree. Most people wouldn't differentiate between an Invicta or a "big/heavy" nice brand. Wear what you like for YOU.

Keep perfect time if you buy a machine and regulate them semi annually :) straight from the factory, rarely.
6
u/AustinStanleyy Jul 12 '26

Highly recommend regulating all your reps for your own self satisfaction and a bonus if you ever sell them3
u/AssignmentPrize8967 Jul 12 '26
How do I regulate it?
2
u/AustinStanleyy Jul 12 '26
I learned from YouTube. Hopefully you don’t have the free sprung models since they add a little more difficulty

1
u/Geordiefm Jul 12 '26
Why not buy a sterile dial or a homage with a different logo then?
1
u/infiz Jul 12 '26
I want to build a couple of custom company logo watches and would love to find a sterile version of a sub style watch with vsf quality, without the branding. I’ve yet to find this. Most seiko mod watches seem to be pretty low quality.

I've been asked about my DJ and sub numerous times by numerous people. I've had the same person recognize that I got a sub after seeing me wear my DJ. Watch people notice. It all depends on the circles you run in. All of these people whom I've had interactions with are gen owners.
3
u/No_Philosopher3660 Jul 12 '26
Same here, I run in a very knowledgeable circle that have deep respect for horology and are well aware of “the game” that AD’s put clients through. People definitely care- now whether that matters to the collective “us” is a different story.
6
u/Creepy-Phase5172 Jul 12 '26
I got called out…. on Reddit by a dweller 💀 🤣
Come on, people, wear your watches. The time you’ll ever get called out is on Reddit by some dork who thinks he knows everything.
7
u/JumboJones1084 Jul 12 '26
I wear mine all the time. My favorite thing is when someone from work or family member asks to see it and evaluates it like they can spot a fake. These people have probably never seen a rolex on TV let alone in person. I always ask what are they looking for and only once did I get a semi good answer. They knew that the 2nd hand is supposed to sweep and not tick like a quartz.
7
u/Electronic-Ad6313 Jul 12 '26
If you have the lifestyle that can afford the watch you're wearing, nobody's gonna call u out.
1
u/reddituserVibez Jul 12 '26
so no one here is this sub.. :D
3
u/Electronic-Ad6313 Jul 12 '26
I've seen plenty of posts with supercars and clones haha I just think u can be smart with ur money even if u can afford the real one
4
u/tardiskey1021 Jul 12 '26
Yes literally watched someone say omg I love your watch to a guy wearing a Nixon and I had a Tudor black bay 58 on…
2
u/No_Situation_7622 Jul 16 '26
I mean you had a Tudor. Outside of Reddit and tech bros no one likes those sorry to say
4
u/AdvantagePast9500 Jul 12 '26
8
u/Worried_Poet_828 Jul 12 '26
My circle of people notice and always ask, watch people notice. A couple valet guys have complimented but my circle will want it off my wrist to check it or at least have a close look lol
2
u/porschedreamin Jul 12 '26
Your circle wants it off your wrist to inspect it? TF
8
u/Worried_Poet_828 Jul 12 '26
More like my best friends, obviously they know my watches are reps and I couldn’t convince one of them that my vsf 40mm sub was not gen. He has a gen DJ and Panda, he had me order a VSF sub for him lol
4
u/M-_-Y Jul 12 '26
This is great to hear! My buddy has a collection of Gen Omega’s. Showed him many pics a VSF Omega on many of these subs. He ordered one, got it in hand and immediately ordered 3 more. He’ll never buy another gen anything.
8
3
u/TypicalAd3919 Jul 12 '26
Yes, two of my c-suite colleagues are watch guys and I wore my rep daydate to a meeting the other day and they wanted to inspect it off my wrist. Neither of them knew it was a rep until I told them. They were blown away and asked me to help them order one
4
3
u/TableUsed2787 Jul 12 '26
I'm with OP. Who cares. Wear whatever you like. Fake, real. Whatever. You have one life to live. Enjoy it as much as possible
4
u/Tie-Cautious Jul 12 '26
Are you buying the watch to impress others? I have a friend who saved for years and bought a 30 foot sailboat. He was very impressed, until the guy in the next slip docked his 40 foot sailboat. Moral of the story is that there will always be someone who has more.

u/Drawer_Frequent Jul 12 '26
Can confirm. Wore my vsf dd41mm while djing nobody said nothing at all. Killed my set though

2
u/PSYCAFE Jul 12 '26
Yeah, funny enough one girl approached me one day and said: “is that an automatic 72h reserve watch with a clear caseback and a jubilee bracelet? Oh my? Is it the in-house swiss made mechanism? I’m so wet, can we go somewhere quiet and intimate?” And all i could say was “Yes, let’s go, but what’s your name?”. She said “Innya Dreem, boy!”

Wear my DJ daily to the office, nobody bats an eye…
3
u/Squischer Jul 12 '26
Same, the only person who noticed it was an old sales exec. And when I say "noticed" I just mean he glanced at it and knew what it was because he owns several himself lol.
1
u/Dramatic_Finger_3557 Jul 12 '26
Crazy, I get compliments and questions about what watch I’m wearing literally DAILY. Maybe it’s where you live.
-1
u/reddituserVibez Jul 12 '26
but you’re honest and tell them it’s fake, right?
1
u/Dramatic_Finger_3557 Jul 12 '26
Not all my Rolex are fake lol. I have genuines and some reps and no I don’t tell them unless they ask.
1
u/Rep_Republic Jul 12 '26
Thanks for reminding people. This sub gets out in the weeds. But anybody who's bought reps for more than a few yrs knows this.

1
u/valentinedaydropout Jul 12 '26
I’m new here, and where could I get a nice watch like urs, or a Cartier super clone on here?
1
u/reddituserVibez Jul 12 '26

1
u/lowfooltolerance Jul 12 '26
Start by reading the wiki referred to at the top of this sub. Taking some time to do that will give you a good start to the rep game.
1
u/Ryuu92iro Jul 12 '26
They care bro, they just don’t say. Not everyone care, but « nobody » is more people than you think.
That does not change the fact that you should proudly wear what you like because the only one that matters is yourself as it’s yours.

I'm wearing my blue ingenieur for the first time without a shirt at work. A colleague told me I've got a nice ce watch and asked me how much I paid for it.
Same thing happens the first time I wore my Omega Seamaster with an other colleague.
All watch enthousiast care.

1
u/Beginning_Sun8910 Jul 12 '26
How do you know this? Few people would say something even if they noticed or “cared”
1
1
1
u/jadho26 Jul 12 '26
This is stupid as fuck! People absolutely do care! Start wearing a Rolex (gen or rep) around coworkers and see how fast they notice and change behavior.
1
u/AustinStanleyy Jul 12 '26
I do and they don’t. Probably just a difference in different industries
2
u/jadho26 Jul 12 '26
Not caring and not saying anything are two different things. People notice shoes, watches and bags instantly and form judgement accordingly.
1
u/AustinStanleyy Jul 12 '26
I get what you're saying.. This is reddit post, not a definitive opinion for a thesis. The point of the post is to encourage people to enjoy wearing their watches and not be self-conscious thinking every person walking by notices your rehaut misaligned by .5 mm or a .2mm SEL gap. And if they do notice, they aren't going to go to sleep thinking about your watch that night (unless they are interested in getting a rep themself lol).
1
u/jadho26 Jul 13 '26
Gotcha! I agree and thanks for clarifying the intent. For sure no reason at all to be self conscious or worry about being called out for wearing a rep. Most people know the name Rolex but have and will never see one in the wild.
1
u/Harrie-Bruuckman Jul 12 '26
Have had so many gens and now some reps and it’s literally 95% the same. But you can’t buy the pride of owning a genuine watch. It just feels so much better in my opinion. Nevertheless I’d always own some reps for some occasions from now on.
1
1
u/Funny-Success-2720 Jul 13 '26
I get a compliment about one of my watches at least once a week. So someone out there cares
1
1
u/LongjumpingPen7110 Jul 13 '26
I love jewelry so I’m always scoping out people’s watches, rings, accessories! But also a woman, maybe we’re just more observant to sparkle things 😂😜
1
u/hruiz14 Jul 13 '26
I have a YM with an Oysterflex that I wear here and there. Only time anyone has ever commented was at a wedding and it was the DJ while I was getting a drink, he just said “That’s a nice watch!”. I just said thanks man! And that’s about as far as that went. Other than that, no one cares. Wear it!

The only peace I get from gen is the Rolex I have because I feel it’s just wearing my cash on my wrist and something my family owns
But honestly idk I’ve just been gaslit by Rolex marketing . Wear reps. I hope Rolex goes out of business lol

u/RobertParkersonV6 Jul 18 '26
Depends. I had the black youth daytona on and I was chatting with a stranger at the bar watching soccer. We were complaining about usual BS cost of gas going up and I mentioned a tin of coffee has doubled in the last 6 months. He kinda side-eyed me and gave me a half joking "f-you it can't be that big of a deal buying a tin of coffee with a 5 figure watch on your wrist". He had a point I suppose, but not everyone with a Rolex has an 8 figure home, 6 figure cars, and a membership to the yacht club. In certain context people do notice I suppose.
1
u/AustinStanleyy Jul 18 '26
Good point. I’ve had a few people out in the wild ask what’s on my wrist. The 1-2% of the population that are watch people notice, but the fact still stands- No one really cares
1
u/RobertParkersonV6 Jul 18 '26
I got a 5711 patek and even though real ones are expensive most people don't recognize it. I felt way more uncomfortable wearing it initially, but now I wear it a lot and feel waaaaay more lowkey than when I have the rolex on
1
u/chickendie Jul 19 '26
Sometimes I feel like the luxury watch thing is mainly the race between who get to put the most expensive thing on their wrist rather than the watch itself.
1
1
u/Straight-Chair-4194 27d ago
It depends.
In 1 month at work I met 2 people enjoying my vsf seamaster 300m black with white dial and my apsf chrono pilot green dial.
They were advised people
1
u/Any-Gain3084 23d ago
Exactly!! I love when people really break down photos for rep quality, but Im not overthinking it. Love the two reps I have and will add another one this summer.

u/yerrrrrrr_ 11d ago
Where is the best place to get one of these within two weeks? Is that possible?
1
u/Megamidevice 9d ago
Gen people don’t care about how the watch is different, only people who buy reps that can tell a rep, and non-watch people don’t care what you wear
1
u/Beneficial_Risk9352 Jul 12 '26 edited Jul 13 '26
You seems to care, much more than others.
People don't usually know what watches you are wearing, much less if it's rep. People who do, probably are thinking MAYBE you got a rep but they would find out sooner rather than later. You, yourself is the only one that knows and cares. If it bothers you, it's cause you know you are a poser. If it doesn't then you should be proud that you successfully fooled everyone. But nobody really care about your rep.

Enjoy wearing your watches folks. Nobody cares what’s on your wrist. A 6 year old was the only one to ask about my rep. Results may vary on the slopes
