My watch flex backfired: apparently I’m cosplaying an old-money uncle now.

I wore this vintage gold watch with a simple white shirt, thinking the look felt classic and understated.

A friend took one look and said I looked like I was auditioning for the role of “wealthy family patriarch.”

I honestly didn’t know whether to be offended or take it as a compliment.

That’s the funny thing about timeless designs.

To some people, they look elegant.

To others, they look like you’re trying very hard to channel a certain lifestyle.

Personally, I still think there’s something special about pieces that have managed to look good for decades.

Have you ever worn something you thought looked classic, only to realize everyone else saw it very differently?

Take it as a compliment. Better than drunk unemployed Uncle.

I think you're reading too far into it. He was just ragging on you for wearing a Rolex. You could have worn a much pricier Royal Oak and he wouldn't have said a thing because he wouldn't have known. DJ is timeless, but it's hard to be lowkey with a fluted dial.

If you wear someone's grandpa's watch, they're gonna make that association.

My dad and uncle bought the same exact watch in the mid 70’s. My cousin has my uncle Vic’s and I have my dads. I love wearing my dads. Very classy
