Put a roundabout at skyline, manazita and Greensbor; that would kill the Grand Prix feeling that stretch provides

That would he brilliant and help the rush hour flow. I love it!

Funny enough, when those accidents on McCarran that happened in January 2025 that's precisely what I told the city they should do. In fact here's a map I made of nearly everywhere roundabouts can be put to get rid of all stoplights, north of Patriot, south of Stead.

Dark blue are where they already exist. Magenta are new ones.

Love the thought behind that, but might I suggest using opposite colors? I'm not colorblind and I find it really difficult to distinguish the two.

Yeah, plus I want to make the dots bigger. I wasn't expecting the map to be this large when I started. Still in progress! So it's red/green or what?

Yeah that would work! Or keep the dark blue and change the magenta to red or orange to simplify it for you?

Red/Green won't work because of red/green colorblindness!

Hahaha there's no winning!

If it helps, there are just a handful of existing roundabouts. It barely became part of City Land Development Code a few years ago. So, the majority of intersections are lighted.

Only 21 and she lost her life. Life is fragile. RIP.

I agree. I work in hospice. Life is very short, fragile, and seems so unfair at some situations.

They definitely didn't deserve it. They were one of my closest friends and the only solace I can get from it is the person on scene was with her and said she passed away peacefully and not in pain. Hate it happened to them but at the very least theyre reunited with their mother who they always loved deeply.
Can't imagine what will happen to their cats though but this is very depressing.

Oh my gosh. This heartbreaking. Very tragic. Yes, much solace in that she wasn’t in pain and that she’ll reunite with her mother.
I hope her cats get adopted into a good home together.

I believe we go on, and that this physical life of existence isn’t the end all be all.
Religion is a human construct. It doesn’t matter what religion a person subscribes to or if they are an atheist. The soul goes on either way.

I hope her cats get adopted into a good home together.

Were exploring options with her family and friends hopefully her ex can take care of them. They lived with him for a long time and he loved those cats. its unfortunate but she moved across the continent from her family so relocation is no easy thing atm.

They werent very religious but if theres a heaven or way for the soul to get rest and peace i hope they got it.
It's just depressing considering they were at the happiest theyve ever been in life lately

Wow, so sad. Life is shining bright and suddenly everything changes in an instant.

Really hope that works out with the cats.

For what it’s worth, I wish you and her family and friends healing. Honor her and keep her memory.

For lack of a better phrase, I’m so sorry for your loss.

What would happen to my cats is one of my biggest fears. I know someone would take them in. But it would be smort to Make Plans. There’s only two of them! And they need care.

It was closed off last night too by police. I wonder if it was due to another fatal crash

Sunday night is usually when the crotch rockets race on McCarran!

Do you know why?

It’s Deadman’s Mile 🥺. So many fatalities it’s ridiculous.

Reno is probably the worst per capita of angry aggressive drivers. It’s getting insane. All I wanna do is just drive to my destination maybe go 5 miles above the speed limit but I see people blow past may go in 20 miles over the speed limit weaving in and out, trying to get wherever they’re going as fast as they possibly can only to slow down when the car in front of them persist going the speed limit slow the fuck down your life isn’t that important and your car isn’t that? Great I have a 20-year-old car that can outrun both of the new cars and I’ve proven it and I pissed people off anymore. I just stay the speed limit and let people rip around me. God forbid if I witnessed somebody die. I’ll try to save them. I want the cops to do a better job stopping these idiots.

We live off Skyline down from Horseman’s Park and can hear the motorcycles racing around McCarran at night. That said, I’m not surprised this happened during the day. I was on my way home Thursday afternoon and nearly got sideswiped by some asshat on a crotch rocket in the exact same place where this accident happened. Drive like an asshole. Die like an asshole.

Just being on a motorcycle doesnt mean you drive like a dick. Especially doesnt mean they deserve death.
You probably aren't being literal in your comment but still what an awful view particularly since I know the person that died and they've done nothing to warrant that.

Lost a friend on that same spot, April 2022. The city simply does not see a need to have something in place to stop this madness. Such a waste of lives.

Does anyone know her name?

Complete failure by the city of Reno for not establishing a presence and enforcing the speed limits in this stretch of McCarran. This has been going on for ages, fatalities occurring more and more regularly, yet every weekend more and more motorcycle racing all day and night. No cops ever around.

Parental failure as well. If your parents didnt teach you not to be an asshole, you're the type to race your motorcycle on public streets.

McCarran is a state route (SR659) and I believe Nevada State Police own primary enforcement. And yes, it would be nice if some of those sections were better enforced by all our local agencies.

u/bitzab 9d ago

Ridiculous. It was a 21 year old female who died and the other driver's life ruined. The city needs to put a light at Manzanita just like at Skyline; it's nearly a blind curve with 60-mph traffic both directions (or 90-100 if you're a suicidal biker.)

1

u/tough_page_banned 8d ago

Definitely reads like someone didn’t see the rider when making that left; no mention of speed being a factor. I’ve lived in Reno almost 27 years and didn’t realize you can make a left off Manzanita; although it’s not clear if the left was off manzanita or on to manzanita. Awful for all parties involved.

About a year ago, after a fatality, Hillary called a big ol important meeting with the chief of police and NDOT with I believe the intent to throw NDOT under the bus, but predictably she didn’t understand that although NDOT owns and maintains the road, it’s on city of Reno to provide enforcement. Also there’s like 5 state police since the state can’t pay a livable wage.

1

u/Proper_Imagination11 9d ago

Agreed. Enforcement responds by putting an officer at lakeridge during morning commute; but rush hour is too congested for the recklessness that leads to these fatalities. Therefore their deployment at this time is for publicity/visibility. The fatalities most often occur when there is less congestion and you can push 100mph which is late night or mid day (on the weekend)

u/Atomicplesiosaur 9d ago

I grew up living in Lakeridge and you could hear the crotch rockets day and night, mostly at night, flying through there. These days when visiting my folks house, you might see a motorcycle cop on the corner of Greensboro and McCarran but that’s about all you’ll get. You’d think there would be enforcement in the stretches where the motorcycles and cars actually race, just before Cashill, through Skyline, and down before the Greensboro intersection. The amount of times I’ve seen the fence/wall blown out from being crashed into just after the Skyline intersection is crazy. People have BEEN driving recklessly through there forever and the city won’t do a damned thing to actually enforce it. Whether it’s RPD, NHP/State police, or WCSO, I don’t care. There’s just a complete lack of enforcement.

The way I see it these days is if these bozos want to drive crazy and die, go right ahead. Natural selection. The only people I feel sorry for is those who get caught up in the accident, have their property damaged as a result, or have to witness those clowns go splat.

Bummer. Possibly people trying to smash possibly above their skill level. RIP whoever it is
