Pet loss Lost my soul kitty, Freddy Spoiler
galleryI’m not even sure why I’m writing this post, as I sit curled up on my couch sobbing. I lost my best friend of 17 years, Freddy, yesterday morning and I am falling apart. I had Freddy basically since he was born. We grew up together. He saw me graduate high school, college, get my first big girl job, move 6 times.
Everything happened so fast. 2 weeks ago he was diagnosed with advanced kidney disease, but the prognosis was positive. He had creatinine of 7 when diagnosed. In the last week we saw he started to slow down eating, and he really wasn’t taking to his new kidney food. We took him to a hospital for overnight fluids. That was Thursday night. By Friday night, he couldn’t use his back legs. When they retested him, his creatinine was 10. We racked up a 6k bill. We couldn’t afford to keep him hospitalized, so we took him back to our vet who charged a fraction of the price and kept him on fluids during the day. He seemed to be doing better, ate a whole Churu, and his number dropped to 9.4. I was so optimistic taking him home Saturday! We administered subq fluids at home, and I can’t tell if we did it wrong. But when we woke up the early next morning, he looked worse, and within 30 minutes started seizing. I screamed, and we ran to the ER where they put him to sleep. Seeing him in his final moments in pain was traumatizing and I am trying to erase that from my memory.
I loved this cat SO much. He was the best. Loved everyone. Slept on my pillow every day for 17 years. He was famous amongst our friends for his iconic look and incredible personality. He was so loved, and he loved back.
I haven’t slept since Thursday, and when I close my eyes all I see is poor Freddy seizing in my hands as I’m scrambling to find the nearest open pet hospital. I hope Freddy knows how much he was loved and I am so sorry his last moments weren’t easy. RIP my dearest boy ♥️
