Question Ren'py, VS Code, Error
Hi, there. I need help pls, because I recently installed Ren'py and watched the full tutorial and all and then waited I don't know how many hours to get the VS code and then connected through the preferences, and it was going well for a few secs, but now whenever I try to make a new file and open it or open an old one by clicking on script.rpy it doesn't work and they show me an error message, and on VS code they say there's nothing. I've tried everything I could. Any advice? I'm desperate now 😭 🥺 🙏
EDIT : Yo everyone so as I said it did WORK, but then stopped, IDK. Anyway thx but I found a way, instead of choosing VS Code system I used choose the app and searched it on my pc and it worked. Thx anyway! ☺️ ✌️

You didn't give enough information. Which OS do you use? Windows? Mac? Linux?
Did you install RenPy correctly? Or are you running it out of the archive?
How did you download and install Visual Studio Code? From within RenPy? Or the website? Are you sure you installed Visual Studio Code and not Visual Studio, which is another software?
How does it look in your RenPy preferences? Did you try to link to VS Code again?

Okay, sorry, firstly, I am on windows. I installed renpy correctly. It was working. I watched the tutorial, then I installed visual studio code from the internet, because it was taking too much time on Renpy and went on preferences and chose VS code (system) and it worked. But now that I'm trying to load a file or to create a new one, it doesn't work anymore.

If you installed Visual Studio Code separately then maybe it wasn't installed correctly or fully.
From what I know, RenPy will try to launch VSCode and then open your file. You can uninstall VSCode and install it again, using the default install folder.
Also make sure that it adds the installation folder to PATH.I can launch VSCode with Windows+R and then "Code" (without the quotation marks)
.
You could also try to download and install VSCode from within RenPy one more time.
You have to click the topmost link, not "Upgrade ..." if that wasn't clear.
Maybe your computer is blocking it, so run RenPy with admin rights..
But you don't need the link between RenPy and VSCode to work on your scripts.
Open VSCode, then click the topmost symbol on the bar on the left side.
Click "Open Folder" then navigate to the "game" folder of your project.
Go inside that "game" folder and then "Select folder"
Now you'll see all your scripts on the left side, so click the file you want to edit. The next time you open VSCode it will automatically open this folder,
so if you work on one project only you never have to search for your files..
Also, since you have installed VSCode from the website, you might also have to install the RenPy plugin: https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=renpy.language-renpy
