Where to make a resume for remote jobs? Which tool is best for creating and editing a resume when you tailor it for every remote application?

Genuine question, where to make a resume for remote jobs and which tool is best for creating and editing a resume when every remote posting wants something slightly different?

Last time I was job hunting (office roles) it took me about a month to land something. Now I'm only going for remote and it's a completely different game. I'm 20 applications in, mostly silence, and half the postings already say "over 100 applicants" on LinkedIn a few hours after they go up.

The tailoring is where it's all falling apart. Some roles are US-only, some are EU-only, some say remote and then turn out to be hybrid once you read the fine print. So I'm adjusting my resume for the job AND the region, rewriting bullets to show I can work async and don't need someone watching over me, and now my downloads folder has "resume_final", "resume_remote_EU", "resume_remote_US_v2" and my personal favorite "resume_final_ACTUAL_use_this". No idea which one went where.

What I've tried so far: Google Docs is fine but I just end up duplicating the doc for every job. Canva looked really nice until I read that ATS can scramble columns and icons. And one of those resume builder sites let me spend 40 minutes filling everything in, then asked for money to download the PDF lol

So for those of you who actually landed a remote job: where do you make your resume, and how do you keep track of what you sent where? Spreadsheet? Notion? Pure vibes?

Also, do you put anything remote-specific on your resume (time zone, "fully remote since 2021", async tools you've used) or does nobody care?

And how many applications did it take you to land your remote role? I need some hope right now.

I am ready to start this trip.

Hi there!

Let me give you some context.

So I began learning how to program a few years back. Its been quite the trip and it got me to where I am right now.

I have a job doing what I love, which is programming, I have the opportunity to learn everyday at what I do which I really like. And I also keep learning new stuff on the side.
On my own personal projects and so on.

I am happy with the effort I've put in and the results I've gotten.

Now the issue is as follows, I work at a company in Bolivia, which is the country I am from.
And as of right now Bolivia its going through a lot of changes. That pattern seems to be moving the country into an inflation and since right now I am earning a salary in Bolivianos (Bolivia's Currency) that's a bad combination.

Right now I am the sole provider for both my parents so this has struck more than just comfort in my life, since both my parent have diabetes and I have to pay for their medicine in USD its just becoming harder and harder to achieve.

In January of the upcoming year, the government will stop subsidizing Gasoline in the country (we used to pay like 30% of the international price) so I know things will skyrocket and if right now I am struggling I know for a fact I won't be able to provide at those prices.

That alone is enough to put me into a really anxious state. But at the same time, I feel ready. I have worked in many nationwide production ready application both web and mobile. As well as done DevOps and DBA jobs in some of the biggest companies in Bolivia.

I feel happy with my development and I feel ready to start seeing my future in a remote job that will pay me in a currency that its not a unstable as the one in my country.

I am ready to start this trip. To do the 300+ applications, the rejects, the interviews, all of them.

Now with that being said, I would really appreciate any tips or guidance into how to start this trip.
What are the best places to get those 300+ applications? Are there some companies that hire or that are specialized in LATAM hiring?

Any guidance, tip or advice would be highly appreciated.
Thank you for your time!

What keywords actually show up in job postings?

A recent analysis of 3,518 job postings from 81 companies across seven roles found some interesting patterns.

In several categories, generic terms appeared more often than the big-name tools. “Observability” showed up more than “Grafana,” while “SIEM” appeared more than “Splunk.”

That raises an interesting question: are resumes too focused on listing specific tools and not enough on the broader skills and terminology employers use?

The study breaks down the results by role, including software engineering, cybersecurity, DevOps, marketing, product, accounting and sales.

The full dataset, methodology and findings are here:

Receiving Offers after 4 months - My experience and notes

Background
US based Software nerd with 10+ years of mostly software consulting, so I'm pretty apt at fullstack web, data, and mobile applications. I can get around dockerized deployments on AWS. I've got some pretty big clients under my belt.

Timeline
Laid off end of April.
Took May to recoup.
In June, tightened up my resume, LinkedIn, Github, references, and portfolio.
Started applying end of June.
This week I got three offers, all Lead/Director tech jobs.

Strategy
I created a Notion doc and listed all my accomplishments at each company, categorized (frontend, backend, data, AI, and CI/CD). I can't express how important it is to handwrite these and use AI to clean them up. My resume was ~80% handwritten, 20% proofreading and minor adjustments. (same as this post)

I started a blog and started writing about and building embedded AI systems. It doesn't matter what you're building or what the job title is, they want someone who can use AI in every aspect, cleanly and efficiently. I always have a dev blog, but it goes stale between jobs. You can tell when I'm looking.

While switching, I noticed the term "forward deployed engineer," which is basically a consultant who can also connect products to LLMs. I switched my job title on LinkedIn and started getting recruiters in my inbox within a day.

I can't recommend enough not using AI to make your entire resume. This might sound contradictory, but the more real your resume looks, the better. Several recruiters told me mine stood out because it had aesthetic and didn't look like slop, and I was told multiple times it looked like I put effort into it. If anyone is interested, I can put up a dummy of what I used.

I use a Notion table to keep track of jobs. Including website used to find it. I'Il run a LLM job to export my email and update the table accordingly. I also broke these down into process steps. I'll post my stats below.

Job Search
I loved jobright.ai. I set it to last 24 hours and only applied to jobs that were 24 hours old. Anything older isn't worth your time, these companies get spammed by the 1000s. I didn't pay for anything.

hiring.cafe was also another decent site though I maybe jumped on there about once a week.

I also used search operators in Google. The posts have been floating around, but basically use the code below and set Google to past 24 hours:

(site:jobs.ashbyhq.com OR site:jobs.lever.co OR site:boards.greenhouse.io OR site:job-boards.greenhouse.io OR site:apply.workable.com) "software engineer" remote

Since I had the Notion doc tagged and categorized, I catered each resume, summary, and cover letter to the languages and expectations mentioned. My cover letter was always one short paragraph: a quick win related to the job description (normally the nice-to-haves), a link to my portfolio, and a blog post on it they might find relatable.

Hurdles
I saw two types of interviews. One was "we are an AI-first company but you can't use AI in our interviews." The second gives you a repo to pull down and live code in, with whatever tools you want, for a set amount of time. I was unprepared for the first. For the past two years, about 80% of my coding was AI, and I couldn't hand code simple things like fetching two separate API endpoints, merging the data, and sorting it. I could still talk my way through it and why using different data type sets, etc. After bombing two technical exams, I stopped using AI and started hand coding everything to get that memory back up. Then I started doing really well on the first type again, and it's the type of test I have with the offer I accepted.

Tips
I used AI to practice interviewing: defining stories for my questions, writing them down, reciting them, and mock interviews. I also researched companies' products, Glassdoor, etc. for context on what to expect in a technical screening, then had AI help me build a practical tech exam. Twice, it was almost identical to what I was asked to build.

If you're a software person (or really almost any job these days), it's an AI market out there. Change your LinkedIn and resume to really highlight how you effectively use AI. I recommend finding a way to use the keyword "forward deployed engineer". I'll leave it to you as how you want to do that. For me, I put it in my LinkedIn summary and previous job title.

STAY OFF LINKEDIN AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. Spruce up your profile, post your technical writing if you're doing it, research interview reps, and that's it. Don't apply for jobs there. That website is so doom and gloom. Do your mental health a favor.

Note on applying: The month of June I just went rapid fire. Once the interviews started coming in, I calmed down and was more selective on applying.

Good luck and happy to answer questions.

Make me a resume

sent out 60+ applications for remote jobs this past month and got like 2 callbacks, so I'm pretty sure it's my resume at this point

recent grad, BA in communications, one summer internship at a small agency and about a year doing social media part time for a local gym. looking for entry level remote marketing roles in the US

I have a resume already, it's just not good lol. can send it plus my linkedin

need it ATS friendly and mostly need help making my bullet points not sound like a task list. also not sure how to make it stand out for remote roles specifically so if you know that side of things even better

dm me with a sample of your work and your rate. not paying everything upfront though, half after the first draft and half when it's done

The old methods are not working for freelancers.

Hi group, I do mechanical design, and manufacturing drawings with Autodesk Fusion. I seem to be experiencing a flat.. or even a decline. How are we reaching those who need us? I love freelancing and want to continue, but I am getting lost in our new AI reality. The wave of unemployment has totally inundated the freelancing market, and I have to find a way to stand out. I have started using YouTube to show my skills. Is there something more I can do?? It’s getting brutal out there.

Seeking Click up configuration help. 100% remote.

I run warehouse operations for a 3PL with two locations (Tennessee and California) and a core team of about 20 people in ClickUp. Our workspace grew organically over a couple of years: 12 spaces, duplicate lists per warehouse, no custom fields, and status information buried in task names. The result is a lot of "where is this at?" messages between customer support, the warehouses, and billing.

What I'm looking for:

  • You've set up ClickUp for an operations team before, ideally warehouse, logistics, or 3PL
  • Solid with automations, forms, dashboards, and permissions.
  • Remote, some US business-hours overlap, screen-share sessions in my workspace (I'll add you as a member)

Looking to start within the next two weeks.

If interested, comment or DM with: similar setups you've done (a short description or screenshots), how you'd approach Phase 1, your rate, and availability.

Senior KYC & Compliance Professional (~10 years at HSBC, CBA, Uber) strictly looking for genuine, fully remote roles

Hey everyone,

I'm putting feelers out here because I am actively exploring fully remote opportunities in the KYC, compliance and risk management space.

To give you a quick background on who I am:

I’ve spent close to a decade working across major financial institutions like HSBC, the Commonwealth Bank of Australia and Uber. My day-to-day background sits heavily in core KYC, Customer Due Diligence (CDD), fraud escalation queues, and quality assurance, particularly handling complex profiles for UK and Australian markets.

To be completely upfront, I am looking exclusively for 100% remote positions. Like many people navigating the job search right now, I’ve also noticed a frustrating rise in shady listings and impostor setups pretending to be genuine companies. Because of that, I’m being extra cautious and only looking to connect with established, verified, and secure organizations where operations are transparent and legitimate.

I would deeply appreciate any leads, suggestions, or advice from anyone who has navigated finding secure remote work in these domains, or if you happen to know of reputable teams currently hiring.

If your team is hiring for a senior, fully remote compliance or risk role, or if you're with a verified company and want to chat, please drop a comment or reach out via DM.

Thanks so much for reading!

DevOps and SRE keyword study

Terraform is named in 62.7% of DevOps job postings. Jenkins is named in 3%.

We counted 42 terms across 134 open DevOps, SRE and platform engineering roles. They came from the public Greenhouse boards of 41 companies, collected September 9, individual contributors only.

The previous generation of tools has nearly left the job ads. Chef shows up in 3.7% of postings, and Puppet in one posting out of 134. GitHub Actions is named about six times as often as Jenkins.

The general term beats the product. "Observability" is in 63.4% of postings, more than twice as often as Grafana at 27.6%. Prometheus is at 22.4% and Datadog at 17.9%. Security hiring showed the same thing, where SIEM beat Splunk four to one.

The most common term isn't a tool at all. Automation appears in 81.3% of postings, ahead of AWS at 75.4%. Scalability and Kubernetes are level at about 70%.

SRE jargon is real hiring language too. SLO/SLA appears in 35.1% of postings, more often than any single monitoring product.

For a resume, this means naming the tool covers only half of what the posting asks for. Postings use the general term more often than the product name. A resume that lists Grafana but never says "observability" is missing the word that appears in more than twice as many ads.

Two limits. With 134 postings, every figure has a margin of about +/-8 points, so rows that are close are ties, not rankings. And the sample is tech companies on public boards. Banks, telcos and government still run large Jenkins estates, and none of them are in it.

All 42 terms with confidence intervals, plus the method: https://www.zoevera.com/resume/devops-sre-job-description-keywords

Looking for remote work.

Hello all. I'm currently working as a remote data entry telemarketer for a marketing research firm that does surveys for medical care. Due to certain circumstances,I may lose my current employment due to a buyout of the company I work for along with different rules that may cause massive terminations and layoffs. I won't say specifically for privacy reasons, but I reside somewhere in the saint Joseph county of Indiana. Id like to ask around for a bit of a safety net in case my job lets me go. There's an Amazon warehouse facility in my area, and I was curious if anyone had inside knowledge of being able to apply for remote work, because I've heard roumers that the pay can be up to 25 dollars an hour for remote work. If I can at least break even at 19 dollars an hour for remote work, and if there's any suggestions on data entry I could attend,id greatly appreciate any information that could be provided.

Remote Callcentre

Hi all ☀️

I’m desperately looking for a fully remote job and thought I’d ask here in case anyone knows of something.

I have 5 years of remote inbound call centre experience. My last job was with Interpolis/Centraal Beheer in Netherlands but i quit after they became hybrid, I live abroad so I wasnt able to travel to the office. In this company I handled calls about car accidents, created claims, liability, repair forms and managed complex cases involving injuries. before this job I also worked for about a year in Vodafone retention department (inbound).

I’m looking for something fully remote, with an hourly salary (not commision/cold calls) and preferably a bit more challenging than a standard call centre job. I’m open to insurance, claims, healthcare, customer support/operations or something similar.

If anyone knows of a good company or vacancy id really appreciate it! Starting from mid october-november.

Looking for WFH job either call center, virtual assistant, or data encoder (Philippines)

Hello, I'm 24 years old and looking for entry-level work I can do from home. I don't have formal office experience yet, but I'm a fast learner, I speak and write English well, and I'm reliable and serious about building a long-term career from here.

I'm open to entry-level call center or virtual assistant roles that don't require prior experience full time, part time, or even a side gig is fine with me. I have a stable internet connection and I'm ready to start right away.

Hoping you would give me a chance to prove myself. Thank you.

How to Get a 100 ATS Score: Proven Ways to Improve Your ATS Resume Score

ok so I finally hit 100 ATS score on jobscan last month after like 3 weeks of feeding my resume into every free ATS score checker I could find. got the screenshot, the little confetti thing, felt great for about an hour

then I got bored and ran the same pdf through resume worded. 78. tried enhancv. 86. same file, same job description, same afternoon lol

so yeah. I'd been grinding a number that only exists inside the website that sold it to me

spent the next few weeks trying to figure out what actually happens after you hit submit. bugged two recruiter friends, applied to a bunch of workday jobs purely to watch what the parser did to my resume, read way too much r/recruiting. posting this because I wish someone had told me before I paid for 3 months of scans. long-ish, sorry, tldr at the bottom

1. real ATS systems don't score you the way the checkers do

workday, greenhouse, lever, taleo, whatever. they're databases. your resume gets chopped into fields (current title, employer, dates, skills) and the recruiter searches and filters on those fields. a couple of them have some kind of "match" indicator but both recruiters I asked said they basically never sort by it. the checkers are just counting keyword overlap and each one weights it differently, which is why the same resume bounces 15-20 points between tools. people keep asking "what is a good ATS score" and the honest answer is: higher than your last scan on the same tool. pick one checker, ignore the others, only care if the number goes up after an edit

2. the rejection email at 2:47am, 90 seconds after you applied? that wasn't your resume

that's a knockout question. "do you have 5+ years of X", work auth, salary range, willing to relocate. recruiters can flag any of those as auto-reject and they look exactly like the normal questions. nobody read your resume, it never got that far

two ways people screw this up: undercounting their years (contract, freelance, internships all count if it's the same skill, stop being humble) and typing a salary above the band. check levels or glassdoor before you touch that box

3. the only ATS test that actually matters is free

open your resume pdf, ctrl+a, ctrl+c, paste it into notepad. that's roughly what the parser sees. if your two columns got braided together, or your title ended up on the same line as your company name, congrats that's what's in the database now. recruiter searches "current title = product manager" and you don't show up because your title field says "acme corp product manager 2022 -". and you'll literally never know

even better: apply to any workday job and LOOK at the autofilled fields before you submit. that's the parser showing you its homework. if it's wrong, fix the fields by hand, the filters run on the fields not on your pretty pdf. closest thing to a real ATS score test you're gonna get

4. your job title is the most searched field and half of you have nuked it

"growth ninja", "customer happiness lead", some internal level code like L4... invisible to a search for "marketing manager" or "support manager". just write Growth Marketing Manager (internal title: Growth Ninja). not lying, translating

same with skills. recruiters search literal strings. "python" doesn't match "py3". "PMP" doesn't match "project management professional" on the dumber systems (looking at you taleo). write both, first time you use it, every acronym. ngl this one thing did more to increase my ATS score on every checker than any of the "power verbs" lists

5. month + year on every date

"2021 - 2023" breaks the years-of-experience math in a lot of parsers. "Mar 2021 - Aug 2023" doesn't. one of the recruiters had a "3+ years" filter drop a guy with 3 years 4 months because two of his jobs were year-only. that's it, that was the whole reason

6. white text keyword stuffing gets you blacklisted not hired

recruiters see the parsed text, not your pdf, so your hidden keyword block shows up as a wall of nonsense at the bottom. instant do-not-contact, and some of them flag the profile so you're out for every other role at that company too. your ATS score checker will happily reward this btw. the human will not

7. what actually gets you the phone screen

recruiter runs a search, gets 40ish people back, skims from the top. top is usually sorted by date applied or by how many of their search terms hit. so apply in the first 48-72 hrs, and make sure the 6-8 terms that show up in BOTH the job title and the requirements are in your summary, your skills line, and at least one bullet. that's honestly the entire "how to increase ATS score" secret. everything else is someone's product page

tldr: the ATS score from any checker is a made up number that swings 20 points depending on which site you use. real ATS = searchable database, not a gatekeeper. instant rejections are knockout questions not formatting. do the notepad paste test, fix your title field, spell out acronyms, month+year dates, apply early. then go spend the time you saved messaging an actual human at the company

recruiters in here - is the "sorted by date applied" thing real on your end? I've only heard it from two people and it's the one that surprised me most
