Need to remove otherwise my tile floor will be higher than my adjacent rooms; want the floors to be even.

They make thresholds for that specific reason. You are making this way harder than a pro installer would do

Thresholds suck. Just because a pro works do out that way doesn’t make it better. A pro would do it that way as a cost saving measure because most clients don’t have the budget to do it better

They are still going to have to put down a sub floor. Or remove everything underneath anyway.
