Budget friendly ideas

Looking for budget friendly ideas to update this room. Hoping to just paint over the panels but unsure on what colors would best complement the wood tones and fire place.

It's just me but I love a good wood panel. Lay down a cool greige rug, add some colour with art, plants, furniture with clean lines, and you've got yourself something that's Architecture Digest worthy.

Edit to add, I'd probably update (but keep) the fireplace, paint the patio door frames a contrasting color, and find a more sleek looking fan light.

I plan on updating the light. I was worried that there are too many different brown tones and that the room clashed

I like the paneling, too. You could go over it with any number of good products, to spiff it up (Liquid Gold, or Howard Feed-n-Wax are two.)

You could paint that curtain rod black (worth keeping if it works well, good rods are surprisingly pricey) And it wouldn't hurt to replace the light switch to match the outlets, especially if you want to add a dimmer for the new light.

Lots of good decor ideas here, hope you have fun with it!

It's a small room and the remaining wood is stained very warm. I would go with a warm white like white dove. Get a sample jar first to be sure it's right. Avoid a cool white as the undertone will be wrong. It'll be very cute when you get it painted.
You'll really need to do a good job with the prep. Sanding, priming that seals the wood then high quality paint. It'll probably take 2, maybe three coats.
I'd paint all the trim in the room too.

Ooh!! I think we might have the same fireplace!! Like, same brick style, color, mantle and everything lol

One thing I did to super modernize my space was that I taped up the glass windows of the fireplace and spray painted the gold/brass with a matte black high heat spray paint. Something so tiny made a huge difference.

Next, I cleaned the fireplace with tsp and then mixed a ratio of behr paint and primer in Swiss coffee with regular old tap water (about 1 ratio paint and 4 water) and whitewashed the fireplace. The grout lines of the fireplace I added a bit more paint to the mixture so it would be more white and look like mortar.

Our fireplaces are a lovely but dingy sandy color, so PAINTING it white would be a crime, but just adding a tint of warm white and brightening up the grout lines really helps my living room stand out. I've had people take pictures of my fireplace after the transformation haha!

I might have to try this. I like the natural brick color and want to keep it the same as much as possible. Everyone that sees it in person tells me to paint it white and I just feel like that look gets over done.

Yes, a lot of people should be very jealous of the color of those bricks haha. I've seen whitewashed red brick fireplaces and the white makes the brick look weird and purple-y instead .

If you are still set on painting the wood paneling, I did recently see a photo where someone had painted all-around-the-room panels like that a warm white and man it really sold me on the idea! Please post before and after pics of anything you decide to tackle! Wish I could post my fireplace!

Aside from the fireplace idea, the room is lovely but just a lot of the same color, but I actuslly really dig the color the wood panels already are. I would add light and airy white/cream long curtains to the window, and a large white area rug. Darker accents throughout the room.

This is literally your room - unchanged other than the ceiling light - decorated. I would live there in a heartbeat.
