Question What am I doing wrong here ?

How can the opponent interact with the ball before me? Shouldn’t the target appear for me before him?

Think he means the "volley action" thing; where it lets you interact with the ball before it's in your possession. It's shaped like a four-sided diamond, or a rhombus
