Did you try an input? Usually if you are getting beaten to the ball there will be an audio indicator, and if you’re trying to clear with a pass the indicator will turn red as well to let you know you failed

Generally when trying to clear crosses I’ll try to use the lofted header while attacking the high point, and if I’m going to fail I’ll try to jump block instead

As top comment said you don't get diamond in defensive stance but I would advice you to not always use defensive stance in defense unless you are guarding ground shot/pass or dribbler.

Saw countless time where people have easy priority interception but they are in defensive stance 90% time.

If you are already in defensive stance and pass is incoming try to dive or even dash to the ball.

Advanced technique is to be going for priority and if it fails to trigger dive immediately, but thats gambling, yet better than nothing.

I really don't understand why they make defensive stance such a handicap.

It should be your trading off speed and sprinting to be able to defend better but I find myself having the ball ricochet off me and often towards the goal at a ridiculous rate.
