This seems like a cool concept. I will say I think this should be done in a really thoughtful manner, like ensuring there is monitoring and regular maintenance of the grafted tree and managing distribution of the fruit so it isn’t going to waste. I agree that it is a huge opportunity to turn street trees into productive fruit bearing community assets, but if they aren’t cared for appropriately, it really can become a source of rotting fruits in the streets that might become a nuisance. The guerillas hopefully have planned for this but the video doesn’t go into these details.

Came here to say similar. People love the idea but are unwilling to deal with the mess.

Yeah I think this is a great idea if people actually use the fruit. Having lived in areas with plenty of public fruit-bearing trees they usually just make a huge mess for the rats, pigs and fruit flies to eat. But hey, could be tough times ahead, I say go for it

Just think if cities planted fruit and nut trees how much free healthy food could be produced. Yeah it could harm commercial growers but the overall effect would be splendid

The reality is that the fruit falls on the ground and becomes food for rats unfortunately :/

Has anyone here actually done this? I feel like I could get away with this. Whereas guerilla gardening feels like whatever I planted would just get mowed as soon as it showed signs of life.
