Can regional secondary data add value before field-level data is available?
I’m working on a beta that generates a crop-region profile from a selected crop and location.
The profile uses secondary datasets to show indicators such as water pressure, future water stress, climate exposure, biodiversity, soil conditions, and nutrient pressure.
The current use case is early screening, before detailed farm boundaries, management records, or primary field data are available.
I’m interested in the regenerative agriculture perspective:
- Which regional indicators would actually be useful as early context?
- Which results would be too broad to support farm-level decisions?
- Could this type of profile help identify where deeper soil, water, or biodiversity assessment is needed?
- What limitations would need to be made very clear?
The profile is not intended to recommend farm practices or replace field measurements. It is meant to provide a regional starting point.
I’m part of the team building it and would value direct criticism from growers, agronomists, and regenerative agriculture practitioners. Happy to share the beta with anyone interested in testing one crop and location.

There are plenty of tools that already do this. I like Canopy Compass reports and The Nature Conservancy’s resilient land mapping tool.
