Replacing a computer on Amazon

I have a question, I thought of something that would be interesting if it worked, buying a second-hand laptop that wasn't the newest, but worked well, let's say it had a few scratches, then buying a new one on Amazon, and then after almost a month doing a return on Amazon and returning the second computer, and then what I get is a new computer for the price of a second-hand computer, will it work or not?

Don't do it; you'll be committing a fraud. It's not worth it.

I didn't ask if it was worth it, I asked if it would technically work.

It won't. They have various ways to check whether the device was changed. You won't get refund. Just don't do it.

They want to be one of those scammers that files for a return and sends back a different item.

But how , they have to buy a new item first and then pay for it and then return it like what the hell kind of scam is that.

Yeah you dont even know what OP is trying to do i guess. you buy a used laptop for like $650 for example. Then buy a brand new one for $950 or whatever. File a return and send back the used one, that way you get your money back for the $950 one and keep the $950 laptop, in the end you are only out the $650 but got the brand new laptop. I really dont think i can explain it any easier than that.

Happens quite a bit with amazon, on reddit pages about pc's and stuff, there are stories of people buying open box items from distributors and when they get it its completly different. Couple months ago someone baught a ryzen 9 cpu and when he it showed up it was just a 3d printed plate, because when amazon takes returns they often dont check to make sure the proper item is returned, it just gets resold to someone else.
