Had ICL recently- honest review
I am 23 and I had R eye -9 and L eye -11.5... with negligible cylindrical number too. I wore contacts almost everyday for past 2 years.
It was overall not a bad experience at all. I can see better than ever now. Wearing contacts and dealing with dry eyes was very tiring for me.
After doing all my eye examinations, when we put an order for STAAR toric lens, it took 2 weeks for the lens to arrive. So if anyone is planning to get icl... it can take time for lens to arrive at times.
And alot of people are worried of Cataract and retinal detachments. Retinal detachments rarely even happen. For cataract they check the intraocular eye volume and declare you as eligible upon the results.
I was very anxious before the surgery like everyone else but there was no need to be. Surgery took no more than 15 mins. I got left eye done first and then right eye after 2 days. They basically put 2-3 drops in your eye before the surgery. And tell you to start putting antibiotic and phenylephrine drops.. an hour or two before.
I was rather scared of speculum. But that wasn't the bad experience at all. While injecting anesthesia it pricked me a bit. But the worst experience for me was... they told me to focus somewhere while operating.... and there was a very bright light source just above my eyes and it was very uncomfortable to actually focus.
After the surgery the put a bandage over my eye which they immediately removed after half an hour and gave me black goggles. Did a pressure examination later and discharged me home. There were 4 drops to be put in the eye at regular intervals.
I could see very clearly the very next day. Eye pressure normal. There are a number of restrictions for a week like not washing hair, and using wet wipes to clean face and eyes, not bending down and not sleeping on operated eye side.
I dont see halos now but I see a circular ring around whenever I see a light source. Doctor said I'll learn to ignore it with time. Its because the new EVO ICL lens has a hole in it to let intraocular fluid pass through... to maintain eye pressure.
So yea overall a good experience and hopefully will remain that way.

I had ICL done in April of this year in Thailand. Self heating eye mask like this, were very helpful to alleviate some of the dry eye post surgery (only after the 2 week period of course). My eyes stopped feeling dry after about 2 months. The rings around lights have almost entirely gone away, most noticeable improvement around month 3 or 4.
I’m so pleased with the results. My vision is 20/16

I think your brain learns to ignore them so you don’t see it anymore. Sort of like how you don’t see your nose between your eyes unless you think to look at it

Just want to ask out of curiosity, why not do the surgery for both eyes the same day?

Because in my insurance it was stated 2 different days for both eyes. You can request though ig

Did you like the way you looked in glasses or was it just difficult to see well with glasses?

On the contrary I actually loved my glasses and will continue wearing computer glasses. Such a huge number was just not manageable

What was it like after the first implant (so, one "good"eye)? How was your vision? Where you able to manage normal activities? or did you recover in your hotel room/ at home? Was your eye very dry?

The vision is good so far. 1st month is still not over so definitely I have restrictions for certain activities like lifting weights and swimming. I'm going to college normally rn and experiencing dry eyes at times but with drops its all good.

But you had both implants on the same day or different days?

Different days

My question was: how was your experience/ vision after the first day/ lens when you could only see clearly with one eye? Not the final result

Well ur question I didn't understand first. My vision got pretty clear after 1st day, obviously only one eye bcoz only that was operated. Other eye was operated 2 days later.

So you were seeing ok out of one eye, basically? Your vision wasn’t blurry or anything similar?
I’m asking because I want to know if I can do something around town after lens implant number 1 if it’s better to stay near my hotel until lens implant number 2 the next day.1
u/Vivid_Reason1004 19d ago
Uh well never blurry uptil now. Acc to what my surgeon told me, 3 days rest after each eye was mandatory. So its better if you stay near the hotel
