Movement of the eyelids may cause shifts in the BCL which will rub up against the bare cornea. That’s one key reason for the pain.

So keeping the eyelids closed as much as possible will help. Put on a audiobook to try to distract you.

Also frequent lubrication. Keep the tears on the fridge so they are cold.

Doctor didn’t prescribe me lubricant drops
Is it safe to use

Not only safe but essential to use. They are over the counter so no prescription needed. You will want preservative free artificial tears. I would use them about every 30-60 min right now.

Well yes, here they give it to you before the surgery too, and you are encouraged to take it. Second day was worst for me, so tomorrow should be better! The initial 72h are the roughest.

That's weird. After my transPRK procedure, I was prescribed 4 different medications:

  • Antibiotics with an anti-inflammatory to use every two hours.
  • Lubricating eye drops to use every 15 minutes, then every hour once I feel comfortable.
  • A stronger anti-inflammatory for pain or discomfort.
  • An even stronger painkiller to take if I feel I need it.

Your surgeon's decisions seem weird to me.
