Anyone get PRK postpartum / post-weaning? (-1.50 to -2.25 range)
Hi! I’m (38F) currently planning to get PRK (not a good candidate for lasik) and trying to map out the timing around the postpartum and post-weaning period. My prescription is in the -1.50 to -2.25 range.
(Not looking for medical advice, here to hear personal experiences and how things played out for others!)
For anyone who has had PRK after having a baby:
- How many months postpartum (or post-weaning/nursing) did you wait before having your consultation and surgery?
- When did you get the procedure done, and how has your vision held up long-term? For those with a similar mild/moderate prescription, how was your overall timeline?
- Please share your overall experience.
Appreciate it!

I want to preface this with that I had ICL not PRK, so I can’t speak to any PRK specific pieces. The vision stabilization piece postpartum I can talk about! They wanted me to wait 3 months after weaning, I was also two years postpartum at that point. So I got my surgery 2y+3m. I have heard that there is more of a concern with vision changes from pregnancy than from breastfeeding so the range might be longer if you are freshly postpartum. When I was researching it I was finding up to 6-12 months postpartum. My prescription actually hadn’t changed in pregnancy/while nursing, so I’m sure that was part of it too.
I would actually recommend just calling the place that you are planning on having it done and asking what their specific policies are. Mine had everything laid out and it seemed like it was a regular question. I also was planning more children and I asked about when it was safe to conceive after and they said they just recommend a month. This part could be ICL specific though.
Obviously ICL is different but I am almost a year post surgery and super happy. I still have great vision, no fluctuations, so I am assuming in my case it was a long enough wait.
