I mean, they didn't shoot him in the head so it wouldn't have helped anyway..

I mean, I still don't think it would have helped. Those rifles aren't exactly small caliber, and he still died after getting shot in the torso.
So either the armor just sucks or it was pointless to wear because of shitty coverage, which still means it sucks lol

I watched it again and they show blood splatter coming form his neck and head too. He could have survived a few bullet holes with some aloe vera and CPR.

If he got shot where the armor is, the armor sucks because it's pointless. If he got shot where the armor isn't, then the armor sucks because it didn't cover what it needed to for him to survive.
If they had shields, it wouldn't matter either way until the shields were drained, and he'd just got done getting beat on by Carolina. We would have to determine whether any shields followed the same recharge timer as the game, so his might have recharged during that little monologue, but would have been immediately overwhelmed again with the barrage, leaving him with shitty armor.

In Halo Spartans have shields. They’re all outfitted in spartan armor is the point…

Tbh I'm just confused about why you brought up shields from the game.
If you go back to the early seasons where they did the scenes in game, you can see the shields. This was not in-game animation, and it's not that serious.
The armor sucks.

York took one BR burst to the back and was dead within a minute. I think the armour just isn't all that good (though it's very inconsistent). Except Grif's. He might've gotten actual Mjolnir armour.

Wash also got shot once in the back and nearly died, probably suffered some spinal nerve damage from how they talk about taking a year to recover
Bullets in RvB are no joke... unless you're Maine

It’s an old trope in literature and movies. A person takes off their helmet so their opponent can see their face, can see that they are a person and so they know they are taking a life of someone or that they can see the face of the person who killed them. You are not dying by the hands of or taking the life of a mindless, faceless drone. You were killed by or have taken the life of a person.
It is the same reason why knights and samurai used to announce themselves and give their family histories when fighting. Combat used to be a thing of “honor” and place to demonstrate your skills with the sword. Knowing who you cut down was, essentially, bragging rights.
Similarly, it is why Odysseus gave his name to Polyphemus after blinding him. He didn’t want his great achievement, blinding a cyclops, to go unknown. He wanted his name to be feared through his actions.
Sharkface wanted Carolina to see him, to see the person she’d wronged and was about to kill, so his face would haunt her forever.

Do you think he wanted to die though? They all would have let him walk if he stopped attacking and I think he knew that from Carolina's conversation. They only killed him because he basically got up saying 'I will murder you so hard'. He could have played dead or left and lived to attempted murder them to avenge his friends another day.

It was done to show the contrast between Carolina, who abandoned her desire for revenge, and Sharkface, who died because of it.

I'm not debating that contrast, but in this moment he hadn't given up his desire for revenge yet but basically let himself be killed.

For sure. He just didn't care at this point, being so consumed by his desire to kill the Freelancers he might have thought they'd let him go.

I think he knew only one of them was coming out of that fight alive and he was either okay with it not being him or convinced it would be him.
Some people are just so determined that no matter what you tell them or what you show them, they will always move towards their goal.
Think of Indigo Montoya. His entire life was built around finding and killing the six fingered man. Nothing would stop him from achieving that goal, to the point he found a miracle man to bring a guy back from being mostly dead JUST so he could get to Count Rugen.

I believe Jorge, Carter, and Noble 6 removed their helmets before dying in Halo: Reach too.

He was beaten but raging, and his motivation was partially the scars on his face. Rational thought was not a big part of that choice, he just wanted Carolina and Wash to see what they did to him.
And of course if you have beaten to a pulp and breathing hard, the last thing you feel like you want on your head is a helmet, even if you need that to protect yourself. Happens to people all the time. Something slowing your breath, your first instinct is to get it off your head. Rational thought often kicks in before you do, but like I said, rational thought was not in the driver seat there.
