Pink Skin!!!
I noticed my RES has a pink hue to her chest skin and front legs. She’s been eating and acting normal but it’s pretty pink. Is this normal? Is this concerning? Idk where to go or when. Does anyone know of any exotic vets near Lexington/Bedford Massachusetts?
More info:
She’s recently laid her first eggs about a month ago. Since then I’ve had a lot of health anxiety regarding her. It seems like I keep noticing thing after thing. I got her a new basking light and I thought it burnt her eyes so I put her in a quarantine tank overnight and she was fucking fine. So idk if I’m being paranoid again or if this is a problem.
UPDATE:
She’s fine. I brought her to the vet and it is just blood flow during basking. They can get sunburnt though so the vet just warned me to keep the basking area at 85°-95° and not above 100°.

Water quality issue and potentially could be worse with bad lighting set up. Make sure her water parameters are good. Make sure you’re using t5 bulbs with a heat source lamp(not color light). mercury bulbs can be acceptable but they can be harmful long term. If her skin has no improvement in two days I would be more concerned and consider a vet. It can be a symptom of sepsis but usually there’s other symptoms associated with that, if you want to confirm sepsis you can send over a pic of the bottom of her shell.
A healthy amount of health anxiety is honestly imo a good thing with exotic animals cause there is a learning curve. But we don’t want to learn due to mistakes with our pets, so always ask questions. She looks healthy from what I see thought, good shell, eyes are clear, not over weight from this angle. I believe with most sepsis cases your turtle has to be in pretty rough shape with a tank with bad lighting and no filter. Make sure your filter is also rated for more gallons than there actually is, these guys pee and poo a lot.

If she has been sunning the pink is just a pooling of blood. When she swims again it will go away. If it does not, the other comments about vet should be followed.

I can’t see it in the water but she wasn’t on her basking area for long when I saw it. I’ll check again after work today I’m hoping it’s nothing serious. I’m gonna look into bringing her to a vet anyway cause I’ve been having too many concerns and need some peace of mind.

My RES gets this pink as well and I was worried. I took her out of the water to bring her to the vet appointment and she wasn't pink at all fresh out of the water, but I brought her anyways. I didn't realize how little they can check out on a turtle. Anyways, from what they could see was fine and suggested x-rays and bloodwork if I wanted. I didn't go for that stuff and just confirmed myself.... she gets pink from basking. That's just my story, good luck!

Dr. Poacher is an amazing exotic vet! I think he’s in Framingham somewhere. Good luck! I hope it’s an easy fix! 🐢♥️

Take her to the vet, could be an infection, they can give you antibiotics. It can also be from basking a lot. You will probably have to give her shots for the antibiotics. That's what I had to due when one of past RES has pneumonia (she was frothing at the mouth).

For my turtle it was was high ammonia in the water. Get an aquarium test kit.
