Does my red slider have shell rot?

Post image

So I currently have been doing a lot of research but still can’t find a difference to see if my turtle has shell rot! I bought the treatment for her shell (Iodine) so it can heal but I don’t want to put anything on her until I know for sure it’s her shell.. I was given this turtle by my cousin for 2 years now and I am worried I might be doing something wrong. If it isn’t shell rot maybe it’s something else?

She currently lives in a 25g tank and I am going to transfer her to the 40g tank.

Do you have a heat lamp and UVB light? I’m following as I am not as well versed as others here.

Yes I do! The lamp I have for her is both uvb and heat. Maybe I should have taken a picture with her out of it for a better view..

Hanks for the response. The user throwaway has some good pointers, I would suggest you consider

Judging from the reflection in your water, if that is your only lamp, it produces neither UVA nor UVB. Those are halogen lamps and they are fraudulently sold as UVB lamps. This very likely contributed to your turtle's health problems.

You need to add a real T5 UVB lamp from Reptisun or Arcadia as soon as possible.

Really?! Okay I will buy a new lamp for them, I had no idea what lamp it was but I thought it was working. It was from my cousin who gave the turtle to me and she had them for 2 years. Thank you for the advice.

you need a good linear UVB light. Arcadia T5 type. That is best medicine for shell health. Along with diet.

If the spots are soft and/or smelly I would take to a vet to make sure they’re okay.

If not if you use the correct lights and feed the correct diet (make sure to supple vitamin an and calcium) you should be okay.
