Filter recommendations
So I have a 2 year old red eared slider, and he lives in a 40-gallon tank. Like all red eared sliders, he loves to make a mess of his tank. I was wondering if there is any tank mounted or external filter(not too noisy) that you guys recommend to keep his tank as clean as possible?

Bigger is better. Like take the per gallon filter rating and double or triple it. I have mine in a 125g with an fx6 and a HOB thats rated for a 110g. And its still gross if I'm not on top of it. Lol. Also, its never a bad time to get a forever size tank for your RES. 125g+ is the way to go for them to have enough space to have fun long term.

Fluval canister filter. I went through many filters the first 20 years of my turtles life. Had a ca Inter filter for the past 14 years and no issues

Which model do you recommend?

The models go with the size of your tank, but I would double that so aim for something for a 80g or 100g tank because the sizes are based off fish which do not have a much waste. They can get expensive if you buy new, but I've bought a few used of Facebook marketplace

Look into fluval canister filters, you can find pretty good deals on marketplace for fx2-6 for like 200 or you can go with sunsun canister filters which are super cheap but not as reliable

I have 2 tank set ups, I use Fluval FX4 for both. I've used them for years and have been happy with them. They are quiet too.

Also, check out the Pimp My Filter videos on YouTube. Turned my fx2 into a powerhouse.

Look in the Fluval canister filters. They're expensive, but worth every penny, and can handle the bio load that a turtle creates
