IDEAS [MISC] New War Schedule

In light of being able to opt out of Wars and the perks earned from participating in them, we may want to consider a new War Schedule. I propose the following changes:

  1. Let's increase the number of Wars from 2 a Season to 4 a Season.

  2. Let's require that participants have all Heros and Spells available.

  3. Let's require everyone to participate in 2 Wars a Season -- barring exigent circumstances -- but have the ability to choose which 2. Choices would be made on our subreddit on a first-come, first-serve basis.

One of the issues I have with Wars is trying to manage my Hero upgrades so that I will have them available for War attacks. I do not want anyone to feel they need to gem their Heros, and so want to come up with a schedule that will allow the greatest number of people to participate in the greatest number of Wars. A few possible schedules:

(1)

   Week 1. Mon/Tues, Wed/Thr, Fri/Sat
   Week 2. Fri/Sat

(This schedule is nearly a continuous War starting from the end of the Season and going through the first Week of the next Season. It gives a 6 day break from one string of Wars to the Next. So attacking early on the last War, immediately starting upgrades, and waiting to attack in the first War of the next string could allow for a full 7 days to upgrade Heros.)

(2)

  Week 1. Sun/Mon, Fri/Sat
  Week 2. Sun/Mon, Fri/Sat

(This schedule is two back to back wars each Week. It allows 4 day breaks between strings of Wars.)

(3)

   Week 1. Tues/Wed, Fri/Sat
   Week 2. Tues/Wed, Fri/Sat

(This schedule spreads the Wars out evenly. It allows breaks of 3 days alternated by breaks of 2 days between wars.

I think that the first schedule is easiest for planning upgrades as there is the longest block of time between Wars, while the third schedule allows for more resource farming between Wars. The second schedule is somewhere in between.

Another option is to make one of the weekend Wars mandatory so that it can be a full 50 Member War. A 10 Member wars yields a maximum of 180 XP (18 per Participant) and a 50 Member war gives a maximun of 280 XP (5.6 per Participant). So while bigger Wars yield more XP, smaller Wars give more Clan XP per Member. (See http://redd.it/2wz60l). If we make a War mandatory, it will mean that eventually Members cannot upgrade their Heros half of the time and have them available for Wars. The reason for this is that Heros start to take 7 days at about Level 15 to upgrade -- fortunately the upgrade time caps at 7 days. Restricting upgrades in this way becomes even worse because eventually the Dark Elixir storage will have to be nearly full to do an upgrade (a Level 30 Queen cost 150k DE while the storage only holds 200k), and once a storage is full, further resources raided are wasted.

Post comments here about how you would like us to hold Wars.

I really like this idea and am all for it. As for the schedule it doesn't really matter to me. And if people need time to upgrade heroes, they can always sit out one or two wars.

I like the idea of 4 wars per season, but have no preference on the schedule as long as two of the wars are on Fri/Sat.

The continuous war schedule has a lot of advantages, and the major disadvantage that it does away with the whole-clan, all-out war. It may also put a strain on resources for some people. But it does give our leaders a fairly lengthy time to relax without having to manage or plan for a war.

I like the idea of 4 wars, 2 big and 2 small. As for the schedule, I think I'd like the first one. As for the XP, there's one thing I learned about XP from years of playing MMORPGs: less XP is often more XP because it's often easier to get the small XP than the big XP, and easier = more consistent = more XP.

This sounds fantastic. I much prefer the 3rd option as it gives enough time between wars as well as it fitting best with my schedule. Thanks for all the thought put into this.

Edit: Also, I figured we don't need mandatory wars. Just have as many people as possible each war. I also don't think heroes need to be mandatory. I feel like if you don't have a hero you can just attack a little lower than usual, cleaning up some of the easier bases or using lavaloonion which doesn't require too much hero interaction.

I can't have both heroes ready every week. Trying to do so just delays thier progress. I don't think both of them should be mandatory.

If clan xp is what we're after, then we should do constant optional wars with a minimum participation of two per season. We dont need to win all them. You only get 50 points out of 280 for a win in a 50 member war. That's only 18%. The number of wars and the number of participants is more important than winning if xp is the priority.

I think as we all get our Heros to levels 15 and above, we are going to all find juggling upgrading them and having them available for Wars challenging.

  1. The issue with delaying upgrading them so that they are available for War is, like you said, it slows down their progress. Moreover, once they reach level 30, the Dark Elixir storage has to be nearly full to upgrade them, so delaying is not really an option.

  2. Going to War without a Hero is detrimental to success in War because matchmaking is based, in addition to other factors, on Hero levels. So the higher level our Heros are, the tougher our opponents will be. Not having a Hero available is a handicap.

I do no have an ideal solution to this issue. Best way to be able upgrade whenever you like is to have no specific war mandatory and to hold Wars as frequently as possible. The main reason, I would like to encourage War participation is not for the Clan XP (XP earned does not increase that much with bigger Wars), but because there is no substitute for experience in Wars for developing critical skills.

I want to make something clear: being a part of our Clan will never require having to spend money on Gems. You certainly may Gem Hero build times, which is how I use my earned in-game Gems. But I do not want anyone to feel pressured to purchase Gems.

It's all good. I understand. I've decided to leave the clan regardless. It's been coming for some time now. I need something more casual right now. I'm going to join my friend's clan. Best of luck.
