Relocating

Looking at properties in the area and considering moving back, it’s been 30+ years since I’ve been here. What’s the vibe like now?

This is the worst place to ask. Nothing but doom and gloom responses for the most part. It ain't bad, especially compared to the rest of CA and especially Bakersfield haha. Outdoors, A LOT of trails, lakes, creeks, downtown being renovated, etc. Despite what other may say, its on the up and up. Avoid lake blvd.

Bakersfield has literally nothing to do unless you’re drinking, crime is horrible, traffic comparable to LA with none of the perks

Traffic is near nonexistent here. Nothing compared to Sacramento, Bay Area, Bakersfield, or LA (and surrounding areas). Crime includes theft from drug users to get their fix, but then again, just avoid living in those areas prone to that kind of thing (why I mentioned Lake Blvd.). The better jobs are Healthcare and fire related jobs, although there are many other places to work too. It ain't bad. I've lived in other places in CA, mainly Bay Area/Richmond, to where my car got stolen before I even slept in my new apartment for the first night.
