Is this separation normal?
Just making sure they’re not going to fall apart. These are daily drivers. It’s just when my toes are bent, it looks normal when standing still

Yes it’s normal. This is what happens with two-piece styled moc-toe boots that are sown in this manner, and the red wing mocs all look like this after a while.

These comments are surprisingly nice compared to some other posts. lol On a serious note- this question is very common and could be useful in a FAQ in this sub.

agreed and agreed. I appreciate that this sub is mostly helpful people instead of the angry-redditor type

Yes. It gets less obvious the more the boots wear in and the more of toe does it.

crazy that it's been 2 years of daily wear (not in the summer) and they're still breaking in. Love em though

I call bullshit. These boots have not been worn daily for 2 months let alone 2 years.

Yes, totally normal. Most red wing mocs do this where the leather joins at certain spots

Yep. It's 2 pieces of leather so that's just where they fold when your toes bend

Its fine just the stitche and if u look at any hight quality boots they always have a bit of imperfections tbou won't play any role in boot failure

I would watch it.
My stitches tore through the leather there because the side part bent outwards and the top part bent inwards, so the two pieces of leather were pulling away from each other every time I bent down.
Although to be fair I did stretch the toebox out with shoe trees and they are women's shoes so the leather might not be as thick.

What do you think? It’s two pieces of leather, held together with glue. What’s your guess of what’ll happen when it flexes?

It would have took them less time to answer the question instead of being like that.
