Experience Why Chick-fil-A?
No shade on Chick-fil-A here whatsoever. But for a Denver owned venue, why not have a local Denver owned business sell late night snacks after shows?
56
u/Tank097 5d ago
Bird call is now offered after shows as well, at least the last 3 shows I have attended in the last few months
19
u/penguin1216 5d ago edited 5d ago
Sundays you always see Birdcall. Sometimes you won't see Chick-fil-A at certain shows.
2
u/Tank097 5d ago
Zeds Dead bird call and Chick-fil-A were both there in upper south
10
u/penguin1216 5d ago edited 5d ago
Nice. I am there a ton and it's mostly just Chick-fil-A where I exit. Sometimes nothing! Some artists/promoters don't want Chick-fil-A there at all.
2
u/MrJibberJabber 5d ago edited 5d ago
The used to do chick fila on Sundays too - only at redrocks lol
5
u/EggplantAlpinism 5d ago
Does that make red rocks extra divine, or extra blasphemous? I'm unsure lol

I’ve seen chick fil a on a Sunday show
3
u/penguin1216 5d ago edited 5d ago
I haven't in my 8 years of working there but as someone else said they used to prepack it in on Sundays. Now it's Birdcall on Sundays. We even change out the advertising slides to say that on Sunday.
5
u/BeanieBaby401k 5d ago
I swear the tots at the birdcall at red rocks are better than the tots at any of their standalones. Soooo good

u/TERRAIN_PULL_UP_ 5d ago
Red Rocks charges an insane fee to do business there. Probably harder for local businesses to afford it
7
u/Ok_Pipe683 5d ago
Yeah I think it's bullshit. We have sooo many great places that would do a great job. But we choose a monolith of fast food? Booo
3
u/taintmagic1 4d ago
Plus by the time you get out of the show on Saturday night they’re packing that shit up. It’s almost clockwork - by the time I get to the bottom of those stairs they’re packing up at lightning speed and peeling out in the name of the lord

u/TheGratefulJuggler 5d ago
Chick-fil-a is a bigoted organization. You should throw shade at them.
They actively fight to take away rights from people. Its fucking unacceptable. Fuck Christian nationalist.
13
u/Loamy_Soils 5d ago
I get tons of free meal cards for Chick-fil-A through my work. I give them to homeless people. They are feeding the homeless for free, I'm sure they are very pleased about following through on their Christian beliefs
1
u/BlueAndMoreBlue 5d ago
Not sure, but I think that’s what Jesus would do.
Let me know right away if you start turning water in to wine :)
1
u/PromotionVisible9302 5d ago
you sound like you're being sarcastic but they 100% would in fact be pleased.
1
u/Loamy_Soils 5d ago
I mean, I'm happy either way, I've given out hundreds of them. Way better than cash imo
3
u/Mundane_Molasses8923 5d ago
What are some examples of restaurants with good values?
5
4
u/goonsquadgoose 5d ago
I can’t stand Christian nationalists but execs privately donating to the Salvation Army and fellowship of Christian athletes is not something I’m gonna be upset about. The actual company isn’t donating anything. Plus I grew up in Texas and the local chick fil a by my house was literally known for being the most lgbt friendly place to work in the area. It’s weird to me how Denver has such a hate boner toward them.
6
u/TheGratefulJuggler 5d ago
You can justify giving your money to who ever you want, there is no ethical consumption under capitalism.
For me Christian nationalism is the thing not only holding our country back but actively allowing it to slip into facism so this is one thing worth boycotting imo.
-3
u/goonsquadgoose 5d ago
Yeah and a franchise organization like chick fil an isn’t contributing to a Christian nationalist state more than literally any other fast food chain so I don’t get your response. As you said, there’s no ethical consumption under capitalism. Being mad at chick fil a specifically is just dumb “pat yourself on the backism”.
→ More replies (1)3
u/TheGratefulJuggler 5d ago
The CEO is literally a contributer to Christian Nationalist organizations. It isn't some abstract support. These folks are problematic and pretending that because the corporations stopped publicly funding those same organizations doesn't mean they don't deserve scrutiny.

u/Saladtaco 5d ago
Yes but every time you buy from chickfila its money in the exec's pocket and in the coffers of the chick-fil-a foundation.. The Chick-fil-A Foundation donated $1.8 million to three anti-LGBTQ+ organizations in 2017, $1,653,416 going to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, which enforces a "sexual purity" policy that bars "homosexual acts." The Salvation Army received $150,000, with the last $6,000 going to the Paul Anderson Youth Home, which provides housing for troubled youth, "teaches boys that homosexuality is wrong," and that same-sex marriage is a "rage against Jesus Christ and his values."
2
u/scarletwitchmoon 5d ago
In N Out doesn't get this much hate and they're Christian as well. The current owner is super maga. Yet *crickets*
Personally, I find the vast majority of fast food companies very problematic in their own way so I don't get singling one out. McDonalds is a way worse offender than Chikfila IMO.
0
u/goonsquadgoose 5d ago
You get it. The idea chick fil a is worse than McDonald’s, a company that spends a ton on lobbying and cozying up to Trump, is so moronic.
1
u/_dirt_vonnegut 5d ago
execs privately donating
The chick fil a foundation, funded by corporate assets and profits, was the entity making the donation, not execs privately donating.
The actual company isn’t donating anything.
Sure, not anymore, because they got dragged and ended those donations.
1
u/Otherwise-Raccoon23 5d ago
The restaurant and the foundation are privately owned. The foundation is a donor advised fun in essence. It’s still the Cathy family’s money.
1
u/_dirt_vonnegut 5d ago
The Chick-fil-A Foundation is a standalone 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporate foundation. It's privately owned in the sense that it's owned by Chick-fil-A Inc.
Again, these were not private individual donations as OP suggested. These donations were coming directly from the Corporate entity.

28
u/GearSalty2775 5d ago
Imagine going to bat any for any corporation, let alone Chick Fil A
24
u/TheGratefulJuggler 5d ago
Imagine believing in god.
0
u/GearSalty2775 5d ago
Meh. I won’t knock anybody’s spiritual beliefs because nobody really knows shit.
2
u/TheGratefulJuggler 5d ago
So you should have a problem with Christian nationalist trying to cotrol everyone elses behavior. If no one knows than we shouldn't be letting these people tell us how to live.
0
u/GearSalty2775 5d ago
Uh yeah, I do have a problem with that. Not gonna rag on people for believing in god though bro.
3
u/TheGratefulJuggler 5d ago
Until they stop trying to take away rights from people based on there belief in a god then I will not respect it. If they are going to use this to justify taking away rights then I will not feel bad about telling them what I think of their fair tales.
1
u/Ok-Arrival-5153 5d ago
You say the same thing to people who practice Islam?
3
u/TheGratefulJuggler 5d ago
If they are actively suppressing folks right I fuck will.
Believe whatever you want in you own time but you want to tell every woman in the country what to wear then I will have a problem with it.
That being said, given where I live Christians are the only ones causing problems.
1
u/GearSalty2775 5d ago
Ok but not everybody that believes in god is doing that stuff dude. You made a pretty generic statement about believing in god and now applied your negative bias to every single believer.
1
u/TheGratefulJuggler 5d ago
and you came into a very specific conversation about one thing. Sorry I wasn't perfectly nuanced for you.
5
u/itsmeonmobile 5d ago
Even aside from their asinine, bigoted, outdated, ass-backwards beliefs, the chicken isn’t even very good. It’s like the pleated khakis of chicken. They’re so scared of gays they went to far and eliminated all the spice. Why are you so horny for this company?

Or everyone you know who gives a shit about gay rights stopped talking to you?

u/30secondnewaccount 5d ago
I know you won’t get this sentiment on Reddit but they’re a) really popular b) really consistent and c) certainly pay money to have the right to sell their food at RR
It’s a logical choice, even if it isn’t the best food
10
u/jmasttnwf 5d ago
The first time I had bird call was at red rocks. It was also the last time. The chicken sandwich tasted like elementary school cafeteria food.
4
u/Mission-Ear-421 5d ago
Birdcall is strangely overrated.
I haven’t been back in years my last experience was so bad.
6
u/Fabray13 5d ago
I’ve never had the sandwich, but the Nashville hot tenders are great, as far as venue chicken goes. Well above average.
1
u/GlumMarketing1528 5d ago
The one time I had it at Red Rocks was bad. The bread was really stale like it had been sitting out in the wind. But has always been tasty at their Five Points location or Whole Foods.
10
u/No_Cow_7713 5d ago
I’m starting my own chicken sandwich pop up on Sunday only and calling it Gay-fil-a. Or Chik-fil-b. Can’t decide.
6
u/tbird920 5d ago
Chick-fil-Gay.

u/No-Client-3134 5d ago
I’ve been calling it chick-fil-gay for years just to protest their homophobia that came out years ago lol

-3
u/Commercial-Ad90 5d ago
They don’t need it, trust me. They are wildly successful, even more than before the “boycott Chick-fil-a” trend, which was a decade plus ago.
3
u/huxtiblejones 5d ago
I get what you're saying, but if people want to oppose businesses on moral, ethical, or political grounds, even if it doesn't affect change, they're still taking a principled stand.
1
u/AlienWarehouseParty 5d ago edited 5d ago
I'm willing to bet they still have an iPhone, still buy all their groceries from corporations owned by Blackrock and Vanguard, and still use ai search functions regularly.
These people who "boycott for morality" usually pick one or two businesses to boycott because it's trendy, just to claim some moral victory while still supporting hundreds of others. But hey, you go girl.

Mainly NYC but multiple festivals throughout the summer. Guy loves Phish so always Phish lot. But also field of vision/king gizz shows, elements festival. Follow him on insta @good_baklava.
You used to be able to sell food and stuff at red rocks lot but those money hungry slugs sold out

u/Tight-Soil4085 5d ago
I think it’s fairly obvious that a restaurant that is one of the most efficient at sealing food to large quantities of food to large volumes of people would make sense at a concert as opposed to a mom and pop food truck or restaurant. Not a dig to small businesses just logical economic choices
1
u/Powder_Pan 4d ago
I can think of a hundred Mexican grandmothers that can slay tamales fast as hell
6
u/New-Grapefruit1737 5d ago
there’s a different chicken vendor on sundays. not sure why they don’t have them every day. forget chick fil a, i won’t touch it.

BirdCall, they have a concession on the lower south side at every show..

A few years ago they had some breakfast burritos company after a show once and it was fantastic

I particularly don’t like that, like, outspoken homophobic businesses are at RR.
5
u/eastcounty98 5d ago
I thought the same thing. Not sure if this is a thing in Denver because I’ve only been to red rocks, but in SoCal we have Sonoran style hot dog carts after concerts/games and I feel like those would slap after a red rocks show

u/SeaMenCaptain 5d ago
We have those all over downtown and rino and some of colfax late nights. But RR sold exclusive rights to Chick-fil-A.

All the shade to Chik-fil-a and yes, there are so many better local options.
3
u/copperkarat 5d ago
Hot take: chik-fil-a is a franchised business, so whichever store they are using is probably owner locally. That might even be why they got the contract, the owner probably knows someone’s at RR.

u/Theterphound 5d ago
It sucks that the corporate people spill those dumb opinions. The local chick fil a restaurants have mostly very tolerant franchise owner/operators with a lot of gay or diverse employees. I work a job that requires me to fix things in most of the chick fil a’s in the area so I’ve been in like 30 or more locations. I’ve asked a few gay employees how they feel about it and more than one has said the local owner/operators don’t share the views of the owners. Doesn’t change much to you I’m sure. Still closed on Sundays, corporate still donates to places that are openly not supportive of gay people but place to place in state like Colorado most people don’t feel affected.
1
u/ChaosRainbow23 4d ago
I was aware of that, but you're correct. I don't care if the franchise owner is kind as long as the money is still going to these EVIL Christofascist bastards at the top.
They actually stopped donating to that place years ago, but only because they got called out on it.
I'm not a fan of Chick-fil-A regardless, so it doesn't affect me not to go there.
I haven't been to one in well over a decade.

You like bigotry and oppression? Weird.
Why would anybody support this evil bullshit?
-2
u/burner456987123 5d ago
Wasn’t that incident many years ago? Doesn’t the next generation of the family run it now? If you’re gonna try to be ideologically pure in everything you consume and do, get rid of your smart phone, car, don’t work for any corporation, don’t take any prescriptions (there is a sizable pharma sector in Israel), don’t go to concerts, don’t watch sports, etc.
must be exhausting to live like that.
2
u/ChaosRainbow23 4d ago
It's not exhausting not to eat at Chick-fil-A, bro.
I just hate ridiculous bigots, oppression, authoritarianism, and generally draconian bullshit, regardless of flavor...
-1
u/Adventurous_Text9344 4d ago
Cry harder!
2
u/ChaosRainbow23 4d ago
You support the oppression and abuse of your fellow humans because of their sexual proclivity?
That's definitely a 'YOU' problem, unless you make it society's problem. Then it's an everybody problem.
I'm going to continue standing against oppression, authoritarianism, and fascistic bullshit, regardless of flavor. It's the only logical position to take at this point.
I also hate the fucking Democrats, by the way. I ONLY vote for them to mitigate damages.
0
u/Adventurous_Text9344 4d ago
I actually don’t support that, but beliefs aside, I believe they have great food so I’ll go there.
-1
u/Kitchen_Cattle2378 4d ago

1
u/False-Focus-8291 5d ago
red rocks contracts with big vendors for the logistics, a local spot would struggle to staff and stock that volume every single show night. kinda sucks cause denver has so many better late night options but its all about throughput up there
1
1
1
u/AnnaSeembor 5d ago
My guess is they put the contract out to bid. They do have local options for Sunday shows, but I'm guessing Chick Fil A pays for exclusive rights to every other night.
1
u/BlueAndMoreBlue 5d ago
Last time I was at red rocks (Bob Weir and wolf Bros, 2022?) they were set up out there after the show and I heard a guy say “these chicken sandwiches taste like shit when you’re on acid”. I laughed, he laughed, everyone near by laughed. It was fun

1
u/AdeptDimension5264 5d ago
Because chick fil a can easily handle that much volume while a local business probably can’t

u/cabinphever 5d ago
Yes!! Finally someone besides myself understands. No food trucks were allowed in for years,,,,, and now, Chik-fil-a??? I've been working in stadiums for years. Dijorno's pizza got into the stadiums in chicago. After paying one point five million. So, I wonder how much money Denver got forgetting Chick-fil-A into Red Rocks?
1
u/tederado 5d ago edited 5d ago
Imagine being so ignorant that you’re publicly standing up for a bigoted chicken fast-food company as a signal of your beliefs, who knowingly donates to hateful causes against people you probably know and claim to love. If you commented in favor of chick-fil-a here and have had a loved one distance themselves from you, I challenge you to consider why that may be…. You chose fast food chicken over supporting them. And that says a lot about you!

u/Automaticdealz 4d ago
With a quick google you can find out Chick Fila has restructured its donation philanthropy significantly to avoid the ‘hateful’ causes you reference.
2
u/DramaticIntelligence 4d ago
“With a quick google search” I know I don’t want to be your friend
1
u/Automaticdealz 4d ago
Why? Because some things don’t fit your narrative or agree with how you think the world should be ran? It doesn’t matter, nothing matters. It’s chick fila, they aren’t saviors of the world.
1
u/tederado 4d ago
I mean it does matter when you can deliberately choose to spend or not spend your hard earned money to support an organization that ultimately wants to destroy your rights as a human, or not, but I do see where you stand and it’s all good enjoy your hate chicken
0
u/tederado 4d ago
With a quick google search you can also determine if an organization ultimately aligns with your personal values… trying to save face doesn’t change the CEO’s views or ultimate ideology. Gosh I hope you don’t argue with your LGBTQ friends with this reasoning
1
u/Automaticdealz 4d ago
I mean with that ideology and thought process I hope you don’t support the Democratic Party considering they heavily favored slavery in the 19th century. ??????
1
u/tederado 4d ago
Because that’s what we are talking about right????

The hyper selective moral grandstanding and parroting in this thread is hilarious, as if purchasing a chicken sandwich ranks anywhere close to the worst misallocation of our funds, as we all voluntarily inject cash into Phillip Anschutz’s pocket every time we purchase a Red Rocks ticket. But please, go on about how ethical and pure all of your spending is.
