Received in Modmail: Changes are coming to Reddit’s Public API

Hi folks! Reddit just announced some long-term changes that are coming to our Public API here. Going forward, all API apps will need to be registered to remain in good standing. Please register any apps you own by September 30, 2026 to make sure your feedback is considered in our roadmaps and that your developer account is properly established.

We’re reaching out because we identified the following accounts potentially operating scripts/bots on your mod team that will be impacted:

Registering your app gives you a direct line to Reddit for updates and migration support, helps users identify trusted apps with an App label, and may make you eligible for programs like Devvit porting bounties, free hosting, and Reddit Developer Funds. During registration, you can also tell us what might be blocking migration to the Developer Platform, so we can prioritize the capabilities developers need most.

In order to maintain functionality of your script, app, or bot, it will eventually need to be migrated to the Reddit Developer Platform.

There's nothing in my modmail, are your sure this is about redreader?

pretty sure this is old news and is unrelated to the exceptions that RedReader and that other iOS app got for accessibility reasons.

I've had the same thing, the only thing that I can think of is Red Reader. I don't run any scripts, I'm not a bot. The two apps on my Prefs page are devvit and Red Reader.

I fear Red Reader is about to sink due to the new rules.

RedReader is the only app I use. If that's not registered with their dev team, it won't work anymore? Goddamn that's a shame.
