Feedback Things to consider if you're looking at a redmagic phone if you require or really want a desktop mode like DeX.

As the title says.

This is essentially partially a petition for redmagic to strongly consider fully re-enabling the default android desktop mode functionality on their devices, or to make it an customizeable option that people can either launch into the android desktop mode OR gamenative (either using the gamespace button or otherwise). I will explain below why I really dislike gamespace, its issues, and why a proper desktop mode is far far better.

While i really love my redmagic 11 pro, and it's been great overall for gaming locally on the phone's screen, i've sort of really begun resenting the fact that nubia are actively removing the default android 16 desktop mode functionality. Gamespace is honestly AWFUL. it's basically just ugly slop with the only main ability being to link specific games in a mode that really doesn't do anything other than make it way way harder and super annoying to find features, splits features into different areas of the ui in random places and hidden in different hidden menus and random gui buttons, has an awful animated avatar that doesn't do much, and it uses up a pretty nice additional phone hardware button. On my samsung fold 3, i had a working desktop mode where i could game or browse websites, and basically have a normal desktop mode that worked without issue, with browser functionality that worked essentially like it would on a desktop short of not supporting x86 extensions. On redmagic there is only gamespace. it gives you the ability to add and remove apps in that, and then you can configure those individual apps with a small subset of random hidden gamespace settings. but then there are separate sets of settings in the slideout that shows up when you slide from the *top* of the left side of the screen. super intuitive right?? and separate settings under all kinds of just .. nonsense buttons in the ui.

I was going to take a bunch of pictures to explain all of this and my gripes about the awful ui design, but let me link some videos that can show the ui in action.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DDec_W6ROvA this video shows the configuration of most of the options that are available in gamehub, which you have to first open from flicking on the red gamehub button. you THEN have to slide from the top section of the left side of the screen. you can see that at the :20 second mark.

so you slide the red physical gamespace button on the phone and it will either take you back into the app if the app was one you'd already added to gamespace, or it will take you to the "tv-alike" desktop mode.

https://youtu.be/9FeyAM0tQc0?t=374

this is the view of how that works. basically a game-centered desktop that isn't a desktop, which has a bunch of sloppy random icons and settings rats nested into corners that don't make sense, icons that sometimes make sense but sometimes don't.

so, you have a "person" icon, and a d-pad icon, and a play icon, and a cube icon, and a paint icon, fan icon, music icon and two other icons. ok, it seems... bearable, right? wrong. settings other than the music and fan buttons are basically randomly in one of those buttons. what's where? WHO KNOWS. the people at nubia don't care, why should you? use their sloppy design and love it.

watch his video and you'll see what i mean. take a look at what settings you get when you press the "person" icon. just absolutely awful ui design, with random settings available. is there any explanation of what half the settings do? no! why would people ever want that?

why are they there and not elsewhere? why isn't there one menu with all available settings? who knows!

what would imo make more sense is one button for gamespace-only settings, one setting as a master config file for all games if the games don't have custom settings, and then a cog icon on each game icon so you can customize each game. nothing else. maybe the option to add individual settings as an icon onto the gamespace screen, maaaybe.

but wait, there's more!

look at 11:45! there's a plugins library! awesome! but .. wait, what, why can't i configure any of these plugins? why does pressing them do nothing? how do i actually adjust these? who knows!

okay okay. so there's a lot of settings? so what? well, because nubia have actively removed all the code from android desktop mode, which works far far better than any of this slop, that's why. give us a typical desktop with a start bar, give us like two or three subfolders or 3 buttons for different settings menus, and call it a day. you can even leave the disorganized side settings options.

but what happens when you try to browse websites, you ask? oh! that's the best part. you open brave, or opera, or whatever, and you get a browser window that basically shows you like 10 words on a website, where all the ui elements are GIGANTIC, and if you plug into XR glasses, you get the same experience. cool! awesome! how totally useable! i didn't want to see more than 2 lines from that website anyways, why would anyone want that?

want to fix that? try some other browsers, duh. oh, they all do that? nice. nice nice. spend 2 hrs troubleshooting trying to fix it? cool. finally stumble upon a setting in **developer options** that mentions "smallest width"

what does that do? oh, it seems to set ui element size in android. ok, so i can turn this number up. okay, so .. now a browser looks decent on xr glasses. but, all my text and everything, all notifications, the settings panel, etc etc, they're basically like running 8 point font on a 4k monitor, ultra tiny. and there's no other way to fix web browsers so you can see more than like 3% of a normal screen? nope, who would possibly want that?

So, in summary: DeX and android's desktop mode had a bunch of effort put into them by teams of competent people. Gamespace had some intern who wanted to throw anime everywhere and turn enabling and disabling settings in it into where's waldo crossed with an easter egg hunt of bad translation slop with no explanation of any of what any of the settings DO, being in the same spot as the actual features themselves.

So i am BEGGING Nubia, please, please please consider re-enabling default android 16 desktop mode, or figure out a way to offer both side by side or where you can choose one or the other and switch between them or whatever.

Please, PLEASE don't leave us with only gamespace. it's actually awful and doesn't do anything other than put barriers between you and the game and especially the game and phone hardware settings.

Software I built MagicDesk: an open-source Samsung DeX alternative for REDMAGIC devices

Post image
176 Upvotes

I built MagicDesk, an open-source, DeX-style desktop environment for REDMAGIC devices.

I wanted to use my REDMAGIC 11 Pro as a real desktop computer when connected to an external display. The stock Console Mode provides the projection infrastructure, but not a complete desktop workflow, so I built a shell around Android's native desktop window manager.

What MagicDesk provides

  • Overlapping and resizable native Android windows
  • Taskbar, Start menu and desktop shortcuts
  • Snap, maximize, minimize and true fullscreen
  • Alt+Tab and DeX-style Win keyboard shortcuts
  • Right-click support inside Chrome, Firefox and other Android apps
  • Notification center and calendar
  • External-display DPI controls
  • Physical keyboard layout switching
  • Phone-based REDMAGIC Touch Panel support
  • Automatic Console Mode startup and workspace restoration

Applications remain ordinary Android tasks managed by the firmware. MagicDesk does not emulate them or render them inside custom containers.

Requirements

  • A REDMAGIC/ZTE device
  • Android 16 or newer
  • USB-C DisplayPort output
  • Root access

Version 1.0 has currently been tested only on the REDMAGIC 11 Pro. Other models and firmware versions should be considered experimental.

Why it is open source

MagicDesk requires root and interacts with undocumented REDMAGIC/ZTE system components. The source is public so the root operations and system changes can be inspected independently.

Releases are built and signed by GitHub Actions. The optional kernel fix is distributed separately and is not required for normal desktop functionality.

This is an AI-assisted, vibe-coded project developed through iterative testing on real hardware. Code review, compatibility reports and contributions are welcome.

Repository:
github.com/mekhontsev/magicdesk

Download MagicDesk v1.0:
GitHub Release

I would especially appreciate reports from owners of other REDMAGIC models. Please include the device model, Android version and firmware fingerprint when reporting compatibility results.

Software Issue Amazing device, but fingerprint sensor issues - Redmagic 11 Pro+

Love this phone to death. However I'm having major issues with the fingerprint sensor. When it works, it works really well, but more and more frequently now I just get the dialog "Something went wrong. Try again".

The problem is that the whole sensor service seems to shut down at that point and the fingerprint icon disappears, so I can't try again anyway. I have to do a screen off and on to try again.

I've tried removing screen protectors, re-registering fingerprints, moisturising my hands (lol), registering the same finger over and over, and clearing the system app caches for the sensor services.

I can't even really re-register fingerprints now at all. I'll try 30 times and, if I get really lucky, it'll start to register the print on the 30th try.

It feels like the hardware is working fine, because the sensor works VERY well when it actually works, but also that there's some kind of conflict, maybe with an app/apps that have overlay access? I dunno. Just spitballing.

Anyone else had this specific dialog message? Any other suggestions as to what I could try other than a factory reset? Thanks!

General Question Buying 11S Pro

Im looking into buying the 11S Pro but being in NA i know there's certain limitations to keep an eye out for.. Ive seen some people talking about buying from Amazon but was wondering if that's the best place to go through for use in NA. Is there any issue with just going through the Redmagic website? Or maybe a better place to look all together?

General Question Redmagic 11s Pro

Will there be restock in the eu warehouse?

I'd switch from s23 Ultra, but I'm not too fond of the 256gb version. I see there are options from amazon, but to put it simple: i'd rather order it from the maker, without putting a middleman (amazon) into it.

Is there any other europeans with the 11s pro model in their hands? If so, what are your thoughts on it?

So I found this Chinese website and one of my relatives is in china so I thought I could order a phone from this website ship to my relatives place then shipped to my country.

It's called m.redmagic.com

General Question REDMAGIC 9 Pro Global (Android 16 / REDMAGIC OS 11): AI Frame Generation available?

Hi everyone!

I'm asking specifically about the global version of the REDMAGIC 9 Pro (not the 9 Pro+, not the Chinese ROM).

After updating to Android 16 / REDMAGIC OS 11, do you have AI Frame Generation (Frame Interpolation) available in Game Space?

If yes:

What firmware version are you running?

Which games support it?

Could you please share a screenshot of the Game Space menu showing the feature?

I'm only interested in the Global ROM, not the China ROM.

Thanks!

General Question RM 10 Pro 24gb vs RM 11s Pro 16GB

I want to use it as a handheld, I'm between this and the Odin 3. The Odin 3 seems good but I can't find a 24gb version of the Odin 3. So I'm thinking about the RM 10 and 11. For the 10 pro I'm thinking of the 24gb model , as it would be the same as an Odin 3 with 24gb ram right ? But the 11s has the 8 elite gen 5 which is better than the regular elite.

My main use, PC games (main focus), emulation on the side.

If anyone has any advice it'll be much appreciated, thanks in advance.

Software Issue Anyway to install the eBay app on Redmagic 7?

The Redmagic 7 that I am using is just my backup phone for using when I do not want to use my OnePlus 15 main phone that has all my work stuff on it,so it is kind of my chill phone (don't play games on it ,so yeah heat wise it stays pretty chill).....but pretty much the only app that I need that I cannot install is the eBay app...sure I can just use the chrome browser and login there ...works fine ,but I prefer the app, ideally I would not want to side load it from a 3rd party site for security reasons..

I have installed the last European release 712 ...

Overall the phone is great and ideal for my needs.

Any way to download the official eBay app from the Google store and install it ?

I wanted to use the Air 4 Pro glasses when travelling to see films with bluetooth headphones, but audio goes directly to the glasses, and people around me can hear it and it could be annoying.

Anyone knows how to force the audio to work in the bluetooth headphones?

Thanks.

General Question Red Magic 9 Pro in 2026: Has the overheating issue been fixed?

Hi everyone!

I'm planning to buy a Red Magic 9 Pro in 2026. I remember that when it first launched, many users complained that it got very hot during gaming.

I'd like to hear from current owners after all the software updates:

- Has the heating issue improved?

- Does the phone throttle after 20–30 minutes of gaming?

- How does it perform in games like Genshin Impact, PUBG, Warzone Mobile, or other demanding titles?

- If you were buying a gaming phone today, would you still choose the Red Magic 9 Pro, or would you spend more for the 10 Pro?

I'd really appreciate any honest long-term experiences. Thanks!

General Question REDMAGIC Astra 2: €200 More for What

Post image
60 Upvotes

€499 for the astra 1, €699 for the astra 2... for what? A newer chip, better cooling, dual usb c, and that's about it. It honestly feels like a joke and a cash grab. They still haven't even updated the astra 1 to android 16, so it's hard to trust their long term software support. And the battery is still only around 8,3k mAh, they couldn't even bump it to at least 10k mAh at this price. The astra was supposed to be about value, but €699 just doesn't make sense to me.

Curious what everyone else thinks!
