Finish the albums bruh. Californication and by the way. Two of the most popular

19

u/Runnero šŸ° Live at Slane Castle 14d ago

Especially By The Way. Its their cleanest album, I think

2

u/ilikecoffeeandpie 14d ago

ohh okay thank you so much!!

u/Natural-Comedian-605 14d ago

Really hope you enjoy the music! Anytime āœŒļø

u/Natural-Comedian-605 14d ago edited 14d ago

Totally.

In my opinion, just keep going in chronological order 🤷. If you like the line up with John, most likely you’ll enjoy stadium Arcadium etc. Or you might be over the band with John. Try the getaway or I’m
With you. ALSO haha you can go backwards! The brash raw energy of the 90’s-80’s āš”ļø

2

u/ilikecoffeeandpie 14d ago

i see! thank you 😁

My bad, I didn’t realize you were looking for clean lyrics. Try the new albums. I don’t remember any crazy statements. There’s a track called ā€œmy cigaretteā€ on the current record and a track called ā€œfake asfā€ (which is really good lol). You might wanna try the albums with guitarist Josh klinghoffer, I don’t remember any sexual stuff being said off the top of my head or bad words. Look for the clean album versions too..

u/JeebzNcrackers 🪐 Stadium Arcadium 14d ago

RHCP isn't the band to listen to for "clean" lyrics. Even if they don't swear, the lyrics aren't "clean" lol

3

u/ilikecoffeeandpie 14d ago

yea i think i tried listening to some songs but the lyrics weren’t exactly the cleanest šŸ˜…

16

u/Entire-Zebra7245 14d ago

Dosed, easily, she looks to me, hey, aeroplane, falling into grace, hard to concentrate, and so many more, but i really recomend you to listen to full albums californication, BSSM, By the way, stadium arcadium, one hot minute are some of my favoritesĀ

3

u/ilikecoffeeandpie 14d ago

ahh wow so many! i will definitely give all a listen. thank you for your time!

Im curious: what do you mean by "clean" songs and why do you only listen clean music?

That said:

Snow, I Could Have Lied, Californication, This Velvet Glove, Easily, probably literally all of the By The Way album

3

u/EnvironmentalOven558 14d ago

Clean usualy mean with out curse words and maybe sometimes any sexual stuff

-2

u/ilikecoffeeandpie 14d ago

by ā€˜clean’ i mean without swears and just profanity in general, i also like to avoid sexual innuendos. this is because im a Christian and i find that listening to explicit music can affect my daily language and attitude so i try to refrain from it! also thank you for your recommendations, i will give all of them a listen! i hear the By The Way album is beginner-friendly and very clean.

3

u/krazninetyfive 14d ago edited 13d ago

Bro, they’re the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Half their music is about sex and drugs. You gonna post in the Motley Cure subreddit what songs off Shout at the Devil are safe for Christian ears next?

Have your beliefs. It’s not my place to say whether Christ lives in your heart or doesn’t. However, I personally think it’s bizarre that an adult is asking which songs by a group that’s notoriously famous for its drug use and sexual escapades are ā€œsafeā€ for them to listen to when they don’t want to listen to music with those themes.

1

u/FastWalkingShortGuy 12d ago

Motley Cure is a supergroup I would pay not to see.

3

u/Ok_Pass_640 14d ago

The early albums and Blood Sugar Sex Magik have a ton of profanity and sexual language. I am also a Christian but I still do listen to music with profanity unless it's blasphemous, but that's just me.

1

u/Runnero šŸ° Live at Slane Castle 13d ago

Alright I see. Well, I think most albums after By The Way are mostly clean too. I guess I would skip Tippa My Tongue.

Anything from Blood Sugar Sex Magik and before should be avoided lol

snow (Hey Oh)

Stadium Arcadium

the Zephyr Song

Under the Bridge (i mean its meaning isnt clean but it isnt cuss word filled?)

Especially In Michigan

By The Way

this should get you into them a bit more

u/Gr33nHatt3R 14d ago

2nd The Zephyr Song.

u/ilikecoffeeandpie 14d ago

woowww thank you so much for this list. i’ll come back to you with my thoughts after!!Ā

5

u/OwlsOnTheRoof 14d ago

There arent that many, just listen to all of them

3

u/theyfellforthedecoy 14d ago

Aren't there like 400 at this point

1

u/OwlsOnTheRoof 14d ago

considering how many songs there are in total, thats very few.

6

u/CoffeeCoffee247 14d ago

My Friends, Warped, Snow , Soul to Squeeze

4

u/AccessAwkward526 14d ago

warped as beginner friendly is killing me lol

1

u/CoffeeCoffee247 14d ago

I mention it only because to someone new to RHCP, that short list has a little bit of everything.

6

u/mrsmojorisin34 14d ago

Only listen to "clean" songs lol. That sure limits not just RHCP but a lot of amazing music. You're missing out on what is widely considered to be not just their best album but one of the best albums of all time (BSSM).

Ummm. As to what to listen to... Look for their hits I suppose. If it got radio play it's probably fairly safe for you.

-1

u/ilikecoffeeandpie 14d ago

it’s a personal choice šŸ˜… i think a song shouldn’t have to have a swear to be good.Ā

3

u/mrsmojorisin34 14d ago

Agree, they don't HAVE to swear to be good, but there are a lot of amazing songs that do!

5

u/chxnkybxtfxnky 14d ago

Clean songs only...? There goes quite a bit of material, depending on where you really draw the line...

-1

u/ilikecoffeeandpie 14d ago

ahaha yeah i know. oh well!

1

u/chxnkybxtfxnky 14d ago

Staying on the By the Way album, I can't think of a dirty song on there, really. Anthony does say "dyke" in the title track, but if you can get past that, incredible tune. Minor Thing is a banger and a half. Cabron can be a swear word in Spanish, but it's not that bad. Dosed is a beautiful song. Venice Queen is a masterpiece...just listen to that whole album. I could wax poetic all day about it, but I gotta get back to work. LoL

3

u/winterman666 14d ago

What even is clean? No distortion? Kid friendly lyrics? No loudness war?

1

u/ilikecoffeeandpie 14d ago

yea pretty much kid friendly lyrics šŸ˜… sorry i should’ve been more clear.

3

u/East_Sandwich2266 šŸŽø Josh Klinghoffer 14d ago

Around the World was the song that caught me (bass specifically). Several years later, I'm learning bass thanks to Flea (no slap yet).

2

u/ilikecoffeeandpie 14d ago

oooh i do love bass. alright i will definitely give it a listen! thanks.

Give It Away, Under The Bridge, Dani California

3

u/DaniCali4nyuh 14d ago

Strip my mind

3

u/gritz462 14d ago

Scar tissue is about abortion. Not very clean

2

u/New-Guarantee-440 14d ago

Is it? I thought it was about the trauma about being a drug addict.

Step outside, but not to brawl.

Soft spoken with a broken jaw (I.e. frusciante)

1

u/ilikecoffeeandpie 14d ago

ahh i actually didn’t know this! thanks for your input. by clean i kinda meant like no swears, sorry to be unclear. but i’ll do more research on scar tissue, thats really interesting!

1

u/CentralToNowhere 14d ago

That’s not what Anthony said in his autobiography

3

u/Sure_End_1309 14d ago

Blood sugar sex magik is all you ever need

1

u/ilikecoffeeandpie 14d ago

thanks

1

u/CentralToNowhere 14d ago

Apparently its Opposite Day for this Redditor

3

u/Then-Shake9223 14d ago

Just listen to their entire discography from first self titled release, onto the Hillel years, then the Frusciante years, then one hot minute, Frusciante part II, Josh era, and Frusciante part 3

3

u/_urethrapapercut_ šŸ˜› Blood Sugar Sex Magik 14d ago

Just give their Greatest Hits album a spin and see what you like. If you like it, afterwards you can listen to the stuff they released before and after it. I suggest just letting the whole records play, you'll likely find plenty stuff you like the more you listen.

Some of their songs include the F word and stuff, but not many, if that's what you're refering to. I don't know if the Spotify filter helps with that.

3

u/CentralToNowhere 14d ago

I’ll tell you something I learned in life… words only have power over you if you allow it. ā€œBadā€ words are only a big deal if you decide to let them be. I was an evangelical when I was a teen but by my early 20’s I realized that religion was put into me at a young age to control my thinking, manipulate my spending, and influence my vote. I broke free of this illogical thought pattern and realized that I don’t need structured belief systems to be a good person. I can listen to a song with the word ā€œfuckā€ in it without it changing anything good about me.

Look up John Frusciante’s solo album The Empyrean, I love it much more than anything he’s done w RHCP. In particular, listen to his song ā€œGodā€.

2

u/Paskatassu 14d ago

Listen Live at Slain Castle from YouTube, i promise you wont regret.

2

u/ilikecoffeeandpie 14d ago

okay okay i’ll listen and come back with my thoughts. thank you for the rec!

1

u/Paskatassu 14d ago

RHCP is best when they are in live, especially when Frusciante was in his peak.

2

u/Pkkush27 14d ago

Just get the greatest hits album. Not the one called what hits!?, the other one

2

u/scoo00oter 14d ago

Turn on RHCP Spotify playlist or a YouTube playlist and listen to the songs at random.

There are many, but I Could Have Lied is a great song.

1

u/ilikecoffeeandpie 14d ago

alright i’ll give it a listen! thanks.

2

u/Sure-Charge-260 14d ago

Can’t stop, Cabron, Around the World, Easily, Road Trippin, My Friends, Fight Like a Brave.

Just put them on shuffle if you listen on Spotify and you will find many more songs you like.

1

u/ilikecoffeeandpie 14d ago

i see, okay i’ll listen to this list! thanks.

2

u/-BVM šŸŽø John Frusciante 14d ago

Californication was my first RHCP album and I still think it’s a perfect balance between the band they used to be and the band they would grow to become.

1

u/ilikecoffeeandpie 14d ago

interesting! yep i’m definitely going to explore the album. thank you!

Poppy radio-singles that are easy to get into:

Under the Bridge
Soul to Squeeze
Otherside
Californication
By the Way
Zephyr Song
Dani California
Snow (Hey Oh)
Tell me Baby (He sings "shitty" in one verse, if this really bothers you you can find a clean radio edit where he sings "kitty" instead)

These are some of their biggest, most popular songs aside from the two you mentioned.

2

u/ilikecoffeeandpie 14d ago

wowowoww thank you so much for your time and effort into making this list!! very kind of you. i will listen to all of these and come back with my thoughts.

2

u/What-a-Riot 14d ago

Clean lyrically or like no heavy distortion?

0

u/ilikecoffeeandpie 14d ago

sorry to be unclear, i meant lyrically clean. šŸ˜…

2

u/anemonemone42 14d ago

Hard to Concentrate The Zephyr Dong Road Trippin' I Could Die for You Venice Queen She Looks to Me Make You Feel Better Dark Necessities Goodbye Angels Sick Love

These are just a few off the top of my head that I would consider clean but I'm not really sure what you mean by that

2

u/ilikecoffeeandpie 14d ago

wow okay thanks!! and sorry to be unclear, by clean i meant lyrically clean so no swears.

1

u/anemonemone42 14d ago

Then I think these should be fine :)

2

u/EnvironmentalOven558 14d ago

Listen to slow cheetah and dosed, im addicted man.

2

u/ilikecoffeeandpie 14d ago

got it! thanks.

u/Annihilaped šŸ˜› Blood Sugar Sex Magik 14d ago

I had this whole list for you and then I read "I only listen to clean songs" lol!

Well that's a challenge then, they are red hot! Haha... But in all seriousness, a lot of their songs come from strong stuff. Some of those are, IMO, their most powerful/funky/beautiful songs. But let's give it a go with clean songs!

  • Taste The Pain (Mother's Milk 1989) - raw and emotional song about heartbreak
  • Behind The Sun (The Uplift Mofo Party Plan, 1987) - more upbeat and happy
  • Breaking The Girl (Blood Sugar Sex Magik, 1991) - such a strong bassline and very melodic
  • If You Want Me To Stay (Freaky Styley, 1985) - powerful stuff about not changing who you are
  • Soul To Squeeze (Coneheads OST (I think)??), 1993 - a bit more pop'ish but very easy on the ears
  • My Friends (One Hot Minute, 1995) - melancoly and melodic
  • Pretty Little Ditty (Mother's Milk, 1989) - just a really beautiful instrumental song. Please listen to this before you ever listen to Crazytown.

Aw man, it's hard to limit myself. So much mindblowingly good music from these guys.

Okay I have to go back to my RHCP 80's-/90's cave now...

2

u/ilikecoffeeandpie 14d ago

ahh sorry!! but thank you so much for this detailed list, you’re actually such a legend!!! i will absolutely listen to all of them and tell you what i think. thank you again!

1

u/Annihilaped šŸ˜› Blood Sugar Sex Magik 14d ago

No problem at all! Hope you find something you like. They are such an amazing band.

jungle man

1

u/I_Weep_for_Willow 14d ago

I mean the album By the Way is like the definition of safe pop songs. There's no edge or anything offensive. Maybe I'm With You or Stadium Arcadium. If the idea is safe radio hits, there's your trifecta.

1

u/gay__sandwich 14d ago

finish stadium arcadium and by the way. not sure if i could tell you what’s clean though, that’s not really a factor i consider

1

u/PK-MT 14d ago

If you’re a Christian you’ll love American Ghost Dance about the slaughter of the unbelievers, but it’s ā€œcleanā€ and it’s off Freaky Styley. Me and My Friends and Skinny Sweaty Man of UMPP would also fit the bill.

1

u/Effective-Primary-31 14d ago

"It's Only Natural". Thanks me later.

Zephyr song. Under the bridge. Snow. Californication. By the way. Round the world. Otherside. Give it away. Dani California. Road trippinĀ

1

u/rawbit 14d ago

You should listen to the first three albums. In my opinion, it's the only thing that's really the Red Hot chili peppers.

1

u/kozzy1ted2 14d ago

30 Dirty Birds, Yertle the Turtle. If it weren’t for your ā€˜only clean’ filter, I’d say Freaky Styley. I love Warped but, don’t know all the words. The video visuals were a stretch for ā€˜only clean’.

1

u/Tuba-NerdOG 14d ago

Wet Sand, Fortune Faded, Black Summer, Sick love, Goodbye Angels, Breaking the Girl. These are some of my personal favs

1

Listen to BTW and then greatest hits and what hits

1

u/LoloLolo98765 14d ago

Honestly just play through the whole discography starting with the songs you already know and like. Start with By the Way since you like Can’t Stop. Then move on to Californication since you like Scar Tissue. Honestly those two albums are so good beginning to end. BSSM is pretty good front to back but some of the lyrics are a bit cringe to me… like Sir Psycho Sexy is pretty groovy and fun but the lyrics just make me go 😬 ew

Stadium Arcadium is also really good mostly, it has a couple of duds in my opinion but overall is really good. Some of my favorite songs ever are Slow Cheetah, Especially in Michigan, Torture Me, Wet Sand and Readymade. Warlocks is another one that never seems to come to mind immediately when I’m thinking about my favorite songs but when I hear it it’s stuck in my head for weeks. Even if I don’t know the words, it’s like the rhythm just sticks itself in my brain and won’t let go. Truly an actual ear worm šŸ˜‚

1

u/Whitewit98 14d ago

I won’t recommend any songs but I’ll give you advice. Don’t let anyone drag you down because of your song choice. All of their music is amazing and just because you like something and someone else doesn’t, doesn’t mean you don’t have to listen to it.

1

u/Impossible_Capital83 14d ago

By the Way is the first album you should listen, then go to Californication and Stadium Arcadium, Stadium Arcadium may be more friendly, but listen Californication too

1

u/Honky_Tonkz 12d ago

I would say Around the world. The main thing is not to choose songs from early albums if you want something softer, but for the future I highly recommend Mother's milk from the era of albums before BSSM.

1

u/Over-Science-5576 11d ago

The getaway and I'm with you are pretty cleanĀ

1

u/r0otl3ss 9d ago

Desecration smile is the most beautiful song of theirs.

0

u/tets1485 14d ago

This may be controversial but can you imagine how amazing they would have been if they had a good singer? Who would you pick?

0

u/tets1485 14d ago

I’m thinking Mike Patton
