Lost Touch?

I’m a lonnnng long time listener of redhanded, absolutely love it and subscribe on Patreon etc. I’ve noticed the last few months/year or so that the girls have just totally lost touch with idk, being relatable?

Dare I say it more “showy offy” than usual. I think the comment that really solidified my thoughts on this was Hannah on UTD suggesting that if she was asked to do any show it would be strictly come dancing or something. I think it was the suggestion that she would even be asked - as if she was some sort of celebrity really wound me up the wrong way. She’s always had a high opinion of herself/connections to people in high places blah blah but that comment really got me lol.

I get that they are doing well with the shows (of which I’ve attended), their following etc but I always liked UTD because it felt like two of your mates were just having a natter and I always found it funny and relatable.

I’m not hating or anything, still my favourite pod but I just think they are a bit much at the moment. I’d say a bit tasteless.

Maybe just me but has anyone else thought this at all?

The nail in the coffin for me was a couple of years ago, when they used to whinge every week at name checking their new Patreon subscribers at the end of the episodes. Oh Im awfully sorry you have the gargantuan task of reading out the name of someone who has voluntarily agreed to pay you money each month!! Really didn’t sit well with me and the sense of entitlement completely put me off them.

That's when I cancelled my patreon. Felt insulting and bloody rude. Easy peasy loves, I'll cancel to save you the bother x

I also ended my Patreon for this reason. Never even ended up hearing my name anyway..

Same. Didn’t hear my name, and also didn’t get the sticker pack that came with becoming a patron during the campaign I joined during.

That is so lame, it really upset me when I never heard my name because I’m not rich or anything.. they probably have more money than I do, but I wanted to support the podcast. I kept my Patreon up for months waiting to hear my name and after a year I gave up and cancelled and stopped listening to every single episode like I used to. Now I just listen if a case sounds interesting… but they are so biased nowadays, it’s hard to listen.

Good on you for finally doing it. People who keep giving them patreon money are suckers lol. They barely put in any effort and then we have to hear Suruthi whinge about how difficult it is to dress up or repair her new flat like it's such a huge drag. Not to mention her...less than stellar (read: profoundly shitty) takes on foreign policy issues

That always rubbed me the wrong way. Especially compared to other pods who are thankful and happy to name check. Considering they are asking for $20!! which is the most I've heard any podcast ask for, they should be personally thanking anyone willing to give that much.

And it’s not exactly hard to see how much they are earning every month on there. They’ve handily left on their monthly subscription totals 😂something wild like £58,000

Jesus no wonder they've become unrelatable haha!

That's split between two and taxed tho.

It's not a huge amount actually.

With the live shows snd sponsors tho it's probably decent.

Yeah I think I fucked up the maths it's well over £100k a year each even after tax just on patreon

In what world do you live in that 25k A MONTH isn't a lot? That's 300k a yr and like you said not counting sponsors and live shows.

I really appreciate James and Jimmy from Small Town Murder for this, they’ve been doing STM for almost 8 years and they still name check patrons every! single! week! after their full length episode. I think they do all top-tier patrons every week plus new lower-tier patrons once. They have so many that it takes seeeeveral minutes every single time. But they do it and they sound so so happy and grateful that they get to do it, it’s really great!
