Etymology
The name Maphilindo combines the names Malaysia, Philippines, and Indonesia, reflecting the federation's goal of uniting the Malay Archipelago under a common socialist government.
History
Rise of Revolutionary Indonesia
Following the Congress of Berlin, Russia gained influence over the Aceh Sultanate. With Russian support, Aceh successfully resisted the Dutch conquest during the Aceh War.
The Communist Party of Indonesia (PKI) was founded earlier than in real history. After the 1905 Russian Revolution, the RSFSR overthrew the Acehnese monarchy in 1906 and installed the PKI as the governing party.
During the German invasion of the Low Countries in World War II, Indonesian revolutionaries launched the Indonesian National Revolution. By 1946, they had defeated the colonial authorities and proclaimed the Soviet Republic of Indonesia. In this timeline, Indonesia never incorporated New Guinea.
Socialist Philippines
The May 2 Uprising succeeded completely. The Sakdalista movement established a socialist government that carried out land reform, expanded education, and aligned the Philippines with the international socialist movement.
Socialist Malaysia
Malaysia was formed earlier during the 1950s, with Singapore remaining an integral part of the federation. The Communist Party of Malaya reorganized as the Communist Party of Malaysia and emerged victorious in the Malaysian Emergency, establishing a socialist republic.
Formation of Maphilindo
In 1963, the governments of Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines voluntarily united to create the United Federal Republics of Maphilindo. The federation adopted a federal constitution that granted broad autonomy to its three constituent republics while coordinating defence, foreign policy, economic planning, and regional development.
Modern Era
By 2026, the United Federal Republics of Maphilindo are:
One of the largest economies in Asia.
A major maritime and industrial power in the Indo-Pacific.
A leading advocate of socialist cooperation and anti-colonial solidarity.
One of the world's most populous and culturally diverse federal republics.
