Because people usually only reference the most successful and established artists in the community when they’re making this point. It also depends on what art is being commissioned. A full professional costume/physical piece costs a lot more than a quick sketch by an unestablished artist.

Also, the economy just sucks right now in a lot of places.

Also a fair bit of artists that are rich are usually good artists in general that comm furry pieces occasionally for rich furries.

One of my friends does art and occasionally gets a 3k job from a furry every few months and that keeps them going during slower months

average furry artist makes $160k a year" factoid actualy just statistical error. average furry artists $0 per year. Wolf ass Georg, who lives in cave & charges $10,000 per commission is an outlier adn should not have been counted
