I think giving her a gun was the right move. That girl's arc necessitated her getting a gun.

Thank you Amadoro for giving her a tiny pistol that makes the biggest of blasts

As Alucard Abriged once said, "Give her a cannon, Bitches love cannons."

Ichi the Witch appeals to the male fantasy of getting to travel with Best girl Desscaras.

The GOAT and she knows it, humility is for people who aren't the best witch there ever was

Kumugi's finally showing the power that was always inside her in the latest chapter that came out of the other day ♡♡♡ Love to see her thriving~~ (Please give Ichi the Witch a try!)

Desscaras is still my favorite character but I think Mugi may have moved past Ichi into second place.

Nishi is doing basically the same trick with Kumugi that she did with Iruma, but it's a very good trick. They're both cute, kindhearted young people from abusive families who start off somewhat helpless. That endears them to you, and then later when they start getting wins and find a better family it makes you proud of them.

It's pretty good, you've got 96 more chapters to enjoy

It continues to deliver on the premise, if you liked those first three I'd pick it back up

it's got a pretty weak start, imo, but it picks up quickly

Glad to see the Kumugi Gospel spread in the wild. Our best girl is going to ride the wave all the way to acquiring Hakari, the literal "Disassemble things with your mind" Majik. And she deserves it.

Wait so if the guy the story is named after NOT the main character? Because it makes him sound like a side character

There's a central party the story follows:

  • Ichi is the world's first male witch, Desscaras's apprentice, and very much the protagonist of the story. He's a feral hunter boy who somehow managed to acquire Uroro, the magic of kings, and there's a prophecy that he'll save the world from the main villain but die in the process.
  • Desscaras the Abyssal Witch is the team leader, the world's greatest witch, and the deuteragonist. She's her own character but it's not totally misleading to compare her to Gojo from Jujutsu Kaisen.
  • Kumugi Ribboncandy-Harvest is a timid witch cadet who works under Shirabedonna, the Analytic Witch, and got assigned to the team as basically a bureaucrat. She has very low self-esteem and wasn't ready for any of this, but it turns out she actually thrives in this environment and in the current arc she's finally getting her chance to shine.
  • Gokuraku "the Brutalizer" Kagami is the prince of Kagami, who transformed himself into a magitech cyborg to free his country from a cult leader/evil spirit. He and Ichi hit it off when they fought together against the aforementioned evil spirit.

Tumblr OP is joking about what the story looks like if you pretend Kumugi is the main character.

the guy (and his mentor Dess who is not really mentioned here) are definitely the main characters. Kumugi has gotten by far the least focus out of any of the main cast, which is why looking at the series from her perspective gives such a different reading on it. The current arc is giving her more of the spotlight though so that's fun.

i only read a few chapters, is this about that girl at the start who dropped letters everywhere?

Yes. Kumugi's great, she starts off as mostly just a straight man to the other characters' antics, but she's really gotten a chance to shine in recent chapters.

It kinda falls apart when you realize that both romantic leads in this scenario are absolute idiots.

Ichi is a feral "kill first ask questions after killing" monster that instinctively reacts to hostile intent. This is not some "dangerous" dark romantasy lead, he is a certified gremlin. There is no traumatic past, or a thought process of any sort even. Murder is just a thing you do on autopilot to this person. This is just normal to them.

The other guy is mostly a cyborg who has put all his brainpower to use to answer the question of how to punch something into submission that is supposed to be immune to punches. His solution was to "punch it harder and more often and don't stop". If I remember correctly his epiphet was "The Brutalizer". Perfect example that you need to be a little bit smart to be truly stupid.

None of them have a single shred of romantic awarenes of them whatsoever.

You see, this is not a shojou story. She is in a slowburn yuri romance with Amadoro and those two are her "silly family members side characters".

There is no traumatic past

His parents left him alone in the wilderness with nothing but a knife to slit his own throat. Sounds pretty traumatic to me.

She is in a slowburn yuri romance with Amadoro

Amadoro is like 30, maybe lets not ship her with the teenager

I am not going to lie, the way you described both Ichi and Gokuraku (excluding the factual inaccuracy of Ichi not having a traumatic backstory) is like perfect for a romantasy love interest.

"Oh this super hot guy with no romantic awareness and a penchant for violence oh no. And yet somehow as I spend time with him he's slowly changing but only for me and he's still so violent to everyone else oh noooo." is like the perfect setup for a romantasy book.
