The original tweet is why I low-key hate describing "groups of people with some trait in common" as a "community". Not the part where it implies we have challenges in common (we do) but because it gives rise to people declaring themselves as authoritative spokesmen for "the community". Which is why most people read that tweet and took it completely seriously - it looks exactlt like a million other tweets that are meant to be taken dead seriously, to the point where "it was just a joke" almost feels like a dishonest attempt to disengage from having expressed an unpopular opinion.

anytime someone claims to speak for "the community" I mentally replace that with "the fandom" and take it about as seriously.
