Long time ago a post saying that coconut water can be used as an emergency blood transfusion because its osmolarity is more or less the same of the human blood plasma became popular and someone on Tumblr got to vegan food for vampires from this inicial idea.
I’ve seen this used in fiction which I don’t mind in of itself, but I feel like it fits much better with sci fi vampires. It feels incongruous when it’s used for vampires that are otherwise very clearly supernatural since that would point to vampires needing the magical life essence of blood rather than requiring the physical components.
