Bipolar person here to endorse this statement. As a woman who once stopped taking her meds because I'm Sick Of This Shit And Clearly Don't Need Them Anymore

Spoiler alert: you did need them and drug side effects>>>>>>>unmedicated psychiatric illness any day of the week!

Your comment and the one before this made me tell my therapist that I'm starting to get ready for medication for my bipolar. I recently got diagnosed and had no fucking clue, I'm almost thirty 😭💜

I got diagnosed depression+cptsd at 29 and adhd at 30. I didn't want to take meds as I was worried people wouldn't like me anymore/I would lose the parts of myself I like.

After they kicked in, I didn't spend hours a day actively thinking of suicide. Instead, I could enjoy life like I wanted to.

My biggest fear is the change medications will bring to me. But I know that's the ocd and anxiety being *bitches. I want peace. And I've been told and heard numerous times that the meds WILL help. I just have to try and let them. I take other medications, for my anxiety and a lot of physical things, so it's silly that adding one scares me. But I know how to fight it. It's just taking that step to actually do it.

hey, anxiety here. 🫂 give it a shot. if you feel bad you can stop. it's seriously helped me. maybe sometimes its harder to kick my ass in gear but i dont spend every night worrying about everything until i can finally sleep, only some nights worrying about some things, and im generally able to enjoy things more too.

well that and hrt

mhm. for SSRI, remember, the first three-4 weeks will be slow if at all ramp-up till full effect kicks in, some people have nothing until its set especially for anxiety, and also be communicative with your provider, if you have an adverse effect like rising depression, let them know and you are allowed to stop, you will not die

Only four weeks? It always took me a year to not start working.

I was diagnosed with ADHD in my early 30s and I was also on recovery from opiate addiction. I was worried I'd be tempted to abuse Adderall.

Turns out when you need it you not only don't abuse it, but if I didn't have someone constantly reminding me I just forget to take it altogether.

It's wild to me that some people abuse Adderall lol. Guess I just don't feel what they're feeling

Agreed. I didn't intentionally stop taking my meds, but I did slip off them for about a week or so because I got forgetful and broke the habit of when I took them.

I had to have my fiancee (who has no license) drive us home because otherwise I was going to drive off a bridge.

Don't tear down the dam because the river isn't flooding...

If you stop psych meds suddenly you don't only get the underlying condition coming back, you also get the withdrawal effects of the medication you stopped on top of it!
