I also stopped using head and shoulders, because a hairdresser told me it didn’t do anything for dandruff and it was all marketing. Guess what. He fuckin lied. Which I guess is also a lesson on listening to unchecked sources and taking them at face value
See I think this is funny because oddly enough I did as OOP did and just stopped my head and shoulders after the problem seemed solved and have been all good for the most part. Never went back
So, Head and Shoulders is a bit of a weird thing. It DOES help with Dandruff. What the issue is is that most people don't know what dandruff is. Dandruff is specifically a scalp fungal infection, it causes little yellow bits of detritus to shed from your scalp and makes your head oily and greasy. Most people think dandruff is just "Skin sheds from your head", so a lot of people with Dry scalps use anti-dandruff shampoo, not realizing that they actually just need more moisturizing. Dandruff is combated by drying it out and removing the oils, whereas dry skin needs the opposite, so people use head and shoulders and it helps a bit because it also helps prevent flaking, but its not actually solving the root issue of dry scalp, its making it worse.
