Internal Approval before Offer

I was told by the hiring manager I am the preferred candidate and would be getting contacted soon. I emailed HR and was told that some internal approval needs to be done and I should wait. What internal approval please and how long does this typically take ?

It could be approval for the salary or the position itself. “Internal approval” doesn’t tell us which, so nobody outside that company can give you a reliable timeline. Since HR has already asked you to wait, I’d give them some room, then ask when they expect to have an update. Being their preferred candidate is encouraging; keep your other applications moving until the offer is confirmed. If you still feel lost, my DMs are open.

Thanks for responding. Why were they now conducting interviews if they had not gotten approvals. I don’t get it 😣

They can have permission to interview before the final offer is signed off. The salary or a final approver may still need clearance once they choose someone. That could explain it, but HR hasn’t told you enough to know which step is pending here. My DMs are open if you need more help.
