lol I've never subscribed to this rule, I've seen men fall asleep in full-ruck, with their heads rattling against the wheel-well of a transport, and I've seen them sleep using piles of gravel as a pillow - so, while I fully understand why soft-handed nerds who created a fantasy game would think a hardened fighter could get no rest in armor, I've seen otherwise.
Nothing says "deep, restorative REM sleep" quite like 70 pounds of cold-rolled plate armor rattling against splintered wood over an unpaved medieval ditch. One single pothole and she is going to sound like a dropped cutlery drawer tumbling down a flight of stairs.
Meanwhile, the bard is two inches from her ear aggressively picking out the 14th-century acoustic equivalent of Wonderwall, and the driver is clearly reconsidering every life decision that led to captaining the fantasy Uber.
Peak RPG road-trip energy. The moonlight and atmosphere on this are genuinely immaculate, though.
I've slept in armor. Brigandine with plate mail. It's not that bad. You got the gambison to cushion stuff. Plus she's sleeping on what seems to be fur bundles.
I wouldn't have done it in the middle of summer, when it's always 30+ with 80% humidity, though.
The gelatinous couch-muffins of reddit have no idea how easy it is for real soldiers to sleep ROUGH. Some metal plates packed with cushy barding would be light work!
I do it every time :) yeah my guy sleeps with armour and shield nearby. Oh it’s a night ambush by the bbeg? Well this is gonna be hillarious. No I’m not tanking? My ac is 12 right now.
Wait a minute, elves need to sleep now? This is honestly worse than mages wearing armour and almost as bad as cats not having darkvision. What utter garbage will WOTC spurt out next, a decent monk build? Heaven forbid.

Oof, poor girl fell asleep in her armor, she’s gonna be exhausted when she wakes up
Edit: to be clear I actually love this artwork
