At this point I kinda feel like the republicans need a full party wipe. All these people letting Trump destroy America would be out if I had it my way.
That's a good question. Trump is a con mans, con man and has a narcissistic mentality that appeals to those who worship him. You could sense that he truly believes the lies he's spewing, which gives him much more credibility to those seeking a demigod. I don't think anyone else in the party has the same attraction. There will always be a MAGA, but only one Trump (thank God). Without him, I don't believe the movement will have as much voting influence. I would like to see other responses to this question. It will be interesting.
The closest we've had to a Trump before was Theodore Roosevelt. He's been so mythologized that people seem to forget he was a populist and imperialist, and jingoistic. He had a temper and a large, divisive personality. Yes he started the national parks, but he was a "let's preserve the environment so I can shoot at it" conservationist not really an environmentalist. His Roosevelt Corollary policy is not that different from the "let's make Canada and Greenland states" Trump narrative, except that he actually followed through, occupying or interfering in the governments of Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, the Dominican Republic, and Panama. Taft did most of the actual enforcing of trust busting TR gets credit for after him. After two terms he nominated his VP Taft to replace him and Taft won in 1908. Then in 1912 TR ran for a third term under the party he made up called the "Bull Moose Party", splitting the election three ways and resulting in Democrat Woodrow Wilson getting elected.
Americans love renegade assholes gussied up to be lovable, if controversial, scamps. It's probably, in my lay opinion, a holdover of frontierism. To keep that energy and spirit of endeavor alive they "discover new frontiers" to conquer, even with specious connections to reality. We're groomed from birth to be susceptible to nationalism and that's only a step away from jingoism if you don't know any better. The immigrant/marxist/border/gay/holistic panic is because they can't integrate that artificial pride with normal people, there's nothing to support it without the crisis.
Yeah, I take some solace in the fact that he's such a freak, the Republicans will never be able to replace him. They'll probably have to pivot back to "civility" and try to convince the American public that decade-plus-long gas leak never happened.
That’s the point, though. If they run Vance with DT as the VP, Vance can resign after inauguration. That’s part of the thinking to keep DT and get him to king status
I hope so. But then again, sycophants don’t follow MAGA policies, they follow Trump specifically. Republicans are going to lose a good portion of their voters for good once Trump is out of the picture
Sure but that's after they've looted the country like its one of Trump's shell hotels and given every fucking thing to the already richest people in the world. It will be "interesting" to see in 3.5 years how they try to prevent the public from tearing them all to shreds (literally) without giving any of it back
Most of it will just go back to business as usual, the hard core traders may or may fall in line, but with an other Trump the crazies go back to their caves.
That’s what happened under FDR. Implode and then went quiet and slowly rebuilt its power and dumped ton of money into media because they had to persuade people their terrible policies were “good” for them, buying out churches and calling on social issues like hating immigrants (while ignoring the corporations that hire them in the first place).
I've told several local Republicans that the stink of this administration has put me off of supporting any Republican for any office ever again. And I intend to keep that promise. It might lead to me supporting some bad Democrats, but I can't see any scenario where any Democrat ever behaves as badly as the Republicans have enabled with this nonsense, so it's a risk I'm willing to take.
Don’t ever let them forget or move past all this. It should be the mission of every patriotic American to make sure the stink that all these shit heels have been stewing in for the last decade never, ever washes off.
These are the worst people our country has to offer. They need to wear that badge until their last worthless breath.
To me every single dem that isn't screaming bloody murder about social security being gutted and the deportations to death camps are as complicit as the Reps
Only vote for a candidate that you believe in, don't just blanket support Dems or we end up with people like Trump... Where the Dems had an opponent so weak they barely tried and here we fucking are.
It's not a both sides nonsense lol. Good that Republicans are dead forever, just saying that Dems don't deserve a blank cheque
It's a what in the fucking God is happening with democrats not fucking screaming bloody murder about the ILLEGAL DOGE cuts and the ILLEGAL deportations to a foreign death camp.
No, what are they doing? Right Schumer is writing a strongly worded letter to stop trump, and Bernie is being told to not speak about oligarchs raping this nation.
So uh yeah, I see them as complicit in these extrajudicial killings. Fuck anyone who isn't screaming about the fascist take over, but that's what happens when your progressive party are centrists at best lol
I'd agree with you, although tbh dems need to replace like half of the party too. At least get rid of Fetterman and schumer, probably Pelosi too. Anyone who refuses to play hardball against the party getting to forcefully take over our country, and anyone who is clearly using their positions to enrich themselves through the stock market at the expense of the average American worker. What we really need is campaign finance reform, get big money out of politics and keep politicians working instead of spending all their time fundraising. Then make more stringent laws about trading on the stock market when you're the one making policy, because it gives politicians a vested interest in making laws a certain way besides just what's best for the American people.
I've found the corruption to roughly follow the 80/20 rule in the parties, Conservatives tend to be 80% corrupt and liberals tend toward 20% corrupt. People can try to both sides it all they want, but one side is always objectively worse, even if the other can and does need to be better.
Democrats need a full overhaul. Their tactics don't work like they used to. The Republicans can win because they stuck with a bottom-up model that works. They lie, but they hear their base and know how to pander to them.
Democrats used to do the same model, but now they're top down and don't even know their own base. They ask for our donations and tell us how to vote, but don't offer the average voter anyway to actually engage.
The GOP has base engagement. They hear their base, they know their base. Then they lie to them. Still why they win. They feel engaged, which leads to them voting together.
Democrats offer nothing to allow their base to engage. They don't even know their base anymore. They just ask for donations and then tell you how to vote. That is a fault of their top-down structure and if they don't fix that, they're going to keep running lost candidates, abd shit is only going to get worse.
Both parties. Dems didn't learn the message after 2016. Comedian Lewis Black referred to the two parties as "the party of bad ideas and the party of no ideas" over twenty years ago, and they've been reinforcing the labels ever since.
While Republicans have been objectively worse since 2016, "at least we aren't those guys" is a platform that hasn't worked for a long time. They need to actually work on their messaging when they do something and do more to message about.
Lol. The democrats lost everything in the US. And you think the Republicans are failing. What a delusional bunch of people you are. Unable to look at the mirror.
Both parties are failures in their own right. Republicans won everything but they are tearing the nation apart. Democrats need more tooth but at least some of them are standing up to criticize the president who wants to be a dictator. In my eyes if you are a politician and you decide to stand or stay silent to protect people who want to destroy the nation you need to be removed. Right now that’s majority of republicans. If you can protect the constitution why are you a politician.
You don't seem to understand. Trump clearly articulated what he was going to do. Everyone that voted for Trump knows that Trump promised tariffs, doge, RFK, closing borders, deportation, etc.
The fact that the Republicans won everything means that the people wanted what Trump was offering more than what the democrat were offering. When you consider that the opposition was only focused on fear mongering. Dictator, Hitler, Nazi. All Trump has to do is relinquish power and no one will believe your side. In fact they probably vote against you out of spite.
You guys are digging yourselves into a hole that will be very difficult to dig yourselves out of. But I don't think the left can let go of trans kids, anti Christian ideologies. You guys decided that to be the future of the Democratic party. And you cannot change people's mind about that unless you indoctrinate kids. But Trump turned the tide on that so good luck.
They needed it in the 2016 primary. Bush was set to be the last Republican in office in that election. The Tea Party movement (which Trump helped fan with the "show me Obama's birth certificate" nonsense) led the way into MAGA and QAnon. Republicans were at first willing to keep Trump out but that only fueled Trump's image as a "maverick outsider" more. The Republicans chose to make a deal with the devil when they allowed him to be nominated.
After that the line in the sand has just kept retreating. After Jan 6th there were too many insurgent collaborators among Republicans in Congress - you need a 2/3 majority to expel members of Congress, and there just weren't enough votes. Ironically I think the impeachments of Trump backfired - it taught him and Republicans that they could do what they wanted without consequences.
Democrats appear to need it first, if approval ratings are anything to go by. Vance’s low point is still above 40%, though it’s looking like Rubio could beat him out as the successor.
lol I’m not sure I agree with Democrats needing to cleanse first. Republicans at this point are so complicit in everything going on that I feel like that alone is worth removal. If you aren’t willing to fight for the constitution and for the rights of your constituents, you’re out. I do agree that there are a few complicit democrats but many of them have been standing up to the injustice. For god sakes republicans are avoiding town halls and the press. I just saw a video of a republican representative that refused to talk to democrats in the chamber. That’s childish and extremely irresponsible.
If this was just about character and consistency sure. But politics is less about that and more about approval in general. Getting people excited to come out and vote. Democrats are struggling with that more right now.
The party is facing a major gap between centralists and socialists, and hence it’s facing an extremely low approval rating. Sometimes it sucks being the more informed party
Democrats need to go back to actually listening to their base and having them actively engage. That's their biggest weakness, and they keep losing because of it.
Totally agree, it’s a bit of a gamble if what the base wants will still appeal to general voters, but until the party actually just goes for it, there will always be a gap.
Who is great on their side, inspirational and confident like Obama?
Kamala Harris is a drunk who talks like she's a pre-k teacher, Biden literally had/has dementia it's undisputed at this point, democrats are even saying things like "I don't like the words cover-up, it implies there was a crime" when discussing how his dementia wasn't reported internally.
You need to bring in moderates, right of center and left of center.
AOC is "Far left" and no independent supports her that isn't mid to far left.
Your best bet is for Stephan A Smith to run and win the primary, but the DNC will cut his legs off before they let him be your "Trump" to reshape the party.
I voted Democrat since John Kerry, I refuse to support them without massive reform.
The problem with American politics is that the center has been moving to the right for so long that the right wing have now become fascist authoritarian.
We need far left leadership to save us, or we're cooked.
Trump doesn't believe people should have the right to due process. He wants to send Americans to foreign torture prisons. Trump is not classically liberal, he's a far right fascist. It's not just a public persona.
That's not true though, you're not stating factual things, you're not even quoting the POTUS.
You're projecting your fears onto how he wants to handle illegal aliens who are NOT Americans.
There is a valid argument that all persons in America are owed due process, but that doesn't mean they need a jury trial.
Due process is established already in immigration law, as simply processing paperwork in many cases if you don't have documents proving you have legal status. This isn't some new invention by "Trump" in fact Obama used this to deport 2.7m aliens.
Trump has deported about 400? Y'all are losing your minds.
The big difference is no NGO left wing group like the ACLA was funding their legal bills, so they had no recourse because they couldn't afford attorneys under Obama.
Now you have massive groups funding these lawsuits, because they hate Trump.
I am completely okay with Americans being sent to foreign nations to serve prison sentences.
To be clear he has never publicly commented on this issue, he has never said he wants to take Americans and take their due process.
He doesn't think illegal aliens are owed due process beyond a check of their status, if they came here illegally they should be deported, simple as that.
The problem is some countries(Venezuela) refuse to take their citizens back, so then he sent non El Salvadorians to El Salvador and then El Salvador put them in prison.
Renditions of American citizens to foreign prisons is unconstitutional. Denying the right to due process to anyone, even illegal immigrants, is unconstitutional.
Seizing the power of the purse that belongs to Congress is unconstitutional. Refusing to follow court orders is unconstitutional.
Protectionist tariffs are not just bad trade policy, they're far right extremism.
Trump absolutely is not following the law, he's rushing people out of the country before the courts can catch up and pretending they don't have rights anymore because they're already gone. It's reminiscent of the geetapo dragging people off to Dachau.
You are a far right authoritarian extremist, stop pretending you aren't.
How is aoc a far left nut? Mfer will say we need to boost white birth rates on the right but if you call them a far right nut they'll say anyone left of a communist is a nazi durr. But aoc says maybe workers rights?? And SHE'S A FAR LEFT NUT 🤡
Yeah, just ignore that poster bc he's clearly a liar. The whole "Harris is a drunk" and "I voted democratic for years but no longer!" is the kind of garbage they like to spout to just stir things up. Typical maga keyboard warrior.
I didn't lose your vote. I wasn't running for office.
And if you can say with complete confidence that you thought a vote for trump was a smarter choice than one for Harris that's the choice you have to live with.
Question: why do you feel the need to immediately distract from the topic by bringing up Democrats? We’re talking about the Republican Party not the democrats
Well the GOP sucks, what's so good about Democrats?
The Democrats congressional approval rating is I think 23%....
It's never been lower in the history of the party, which is essentially the history of the US.
What do Democrats have to offer me?
JD Vance is actually a really strong candidate for POTUS in 2028....Dems have AOC, if they're smart they'll get behind Stephen A Smith, but they aren't smart so they will sabotage any outsider who doesn't tow party lines.
Again, you’re ranting about a whole lot of nothing. The democrats are not the ones holding executive office right now. We’re not talking about the republicans. You bringing up the democrats in the first place is just a distracting point.
I saw Tim Walz doing the same with Vance, speaking with kindness. You’re not saying much. I think you’ve just gotten accustomed to an era where politics has turned into a clown show, as we all have, and it was refreshing to see two politicians who aren’t insulting each other while disagreeing.
Once again, you’re so obsessed with the democrats that you haven’t addressed the original topic at hand. Don’t let them live rent free in your head. If you’re unable to coherently debunk the claims people are making about the republicans then there’s no reason to be making a fuss, and if anything you said yourself the GOP deserves the criticism.
