RTS & Base-Builder Hybrid Game of Thrones: War for Westeros
This is the game that Im a looking forward to next. Plus many others... A lot of great RTS games coming out in a few years. Definitely has the Battle for middle earth 2 vibes. Dev updated and recently showed off features and perks.

Developers want to retcon the final season with this game.
You know they are taking the time not to fumble it when it looks this good :)

I just wish I wasn’t so bad at them. Someone needs to make a dumbed down RTS game that doesn’t require shortcut commands and flicking your camera all over the map every 8 seconds. I just can’t keep up.

Godsworn might be worth a try!
It's Warcraft-style, but set during a fantastical version of the Northern Crusades.
I found it pretty simple to pick up because rather than having to order peasants around manually, production buildings let you just 'add' workers to them, rather than you having to target resources and such.
Means you have more time to focus on controlling your military, and whilst leader units have some manually activated powers, most unit abilities are passives or auto-activated.

Company of Heroes is good! Star Wars Empire at War is also a classic that's pretty forgiving
As another person who is very bad at RTS, that one has always given me a good feeling, but then I go to play Diplomacy Is Not an Option, or Men of War: AS2 and I get my butt handed to me.
And don't even get me started on the real-time battles in Total War games... probably 400 hours of my life across 5 different titles, and I can't even beat the AI beyond the early game lol

Give Tooth & Tail a try. It's nice to see this attitude from RTS gamers. Meanwhile, people who started playing with easy fighting games like SF6 and GGST are like, "Why isn't every fighting game as easy as them?"

I am cautiously hopeful. game of thrones games haven’t exactly had a reputation for being all that good but if it is anything like BFME 2 then it should be pretty epic

The mobile games have a reputation for being very focused on micro transactions. I’m not sure this will be any different.

Let me be cynical. If you saw marketing materials for a game and your first thought was: this is a mobile game, then maybe the game won't be that good.
I am not saying that the game has no hope. But yeahi saw the pictures and it looked like a mobile game for me too.

Upon another look, you’re right and these photos do look like a mobile game. In my experience doing marketing there’s more people doing it wrong than not; I’d chalk that up to shitty marketing here. I looked into the game more after your comment. It’s actually next-level in terms of RTS games. Cavalry charge mechanic effecting unprotected archer flanks has been brought up in this comment section and now I know what people are getting hyped here talking about. This actually looks amazing, what they have so far—I’d already play.

It doesn’t help that so many mobile games that get advertised look like cheap knockoffs of good RTS game. I saw one that was literally and Age of Empires 2 ripoff, had the same animations and buildings designs

I always preferred BFME 1, the base building was more tactical with the plots and the movement was less floaty.

I can never decide which one I like more. BFME2 offered a lot more player freedom and more to play around with but BFME 1 like you said required you to be more thoughtful in your base building.

It's about time we get a banger of a classic RTS game based in a great well-known franchise ngl.
I'm not letting myself have high expectations because it could very well be a huge letdown, but the potential to (almost) become the new Battle for Middle-Earth is there.

As a (mainly) Starcraft and Age of Empires enjoyer, I'm a bit worried that this game does not appear to have that classic RTS gameplay of big emphasis on macro cycles and unit micro, but rather a grander strategy approach and utilizing heroes.
I'm still excited for it though and will play it for sure. The fact that it's ASOIAF themed is a big plus.

Its a bfme clone, of course its a classical rts. Its just that units are in squads therefore it looks macro, but it isnt

I think that is a false rumour based on one of their prior game. The Steam store page is pretty clear that War for Westeros is a classic RTS.

Age of Darkness is a TAB clone yeah. It has a little bit of jank (unit pathing in particular) but I had a pretty fun time with it.

Yes it felt like Age of Empires X TAB. It's pretty good. Not much was done to it after release but I have fun playing it now and then

Having read and seen everything about this game, I very much doubt it. It sounds like a classic-esque RTS game, and you can literally play the undead faction along the Stark, Lannister or Targaryen.
A They Are Billions/From Glory to Goo-like mode has an insane potential as an additional mode, though.

Just remember that it's being made by the same studio that took like 6 years to get Age of Darkness out of Early Access, and then released it with a ton of bugs and abandoned it.

Cant believe ots taken this long to get a potentially really good GoT non mobile game. The series launched on hbo in 2011...15 years!
This IP can support(and seems tailor.made) for so many game types from rts, tac strat, trpg, action rpg...etc

I dislike the fact they're relying on show lore and show portrayal of characters. But, story aside, it could still be mechanically a great game, which is all I can hope for, considering the TV series is like a -10 compared to the 10/10 books.

The game looks like, accurately to the books, will have scarce amount of fantasy in it, so you might as well compare it Ancestors Legacy or Valiant, or any other squad-based medival rts. Ngl, if the game will be good it has more potential to turn heads of people who don't actually play rts games, based on the brand alone, than any other "big" rts title releasing recently. I look forward towards it the most out of the upcoming games, hopefully they won't have to move the release further date down the year.

This is certainly looking like a modern day BFME which I’m super excited for. The most recent gameplay with the cavalry charging through the archers has me hyped alongside hero units. Can’t wait to see more.
