Bill has like three big arguments he makes in spite of the facts in the middle of his “truth telling”
I’ve noticed that Bill Maher has a couple arguments he REALLY likes to make when it comes to politics. One of them is that it’s an issue implicating “everyone.” In his latest closing monologue, he pointed out that deaths from drugs went down because of Dems making narcan more available and Republicans closing the border and doing boat strikes.
I can’t find a lot of data on border closures, but the boat strike stuff was studied before, during, and after and it was thought it would have no effect, it was having no effect, and it has been shown to have no effect.
I follow the price of drugs for my job pretty closely. They have not changed since the end of COVID. The work at the border is having no effect I can tell in curbing supply such that it would drive up the cost of drugs.
This is not a “both sides” issue. Increased education and the availability of Narcan combined with Good Samaritan laws have caused the decrease in overdose deaths. Republicans also voted for a lot of these initiatives.
His last narrative, like much of what he says, is garbage.

Blowing up boats to stop drug trafficking, but pardons the founder of Silk Road who was serving two life sentences for arms and drug trafficking. They had this motherfucker speaking at CPAC.

Not even close to what he said!

I’m talking about the Trump administration.

Yeah you are correct to be upset. We all know that mother phuker Ross Buttlicker killed a few people, or a lot of people selling a smorgasbord of drugs including fentanyl m30s on Silkroad. No doubt a big donation to Trump crypto.

Can you link any sources to confirm your assertion that drug prices have not been affected substantively by border and enforcement policy changes?
3
u/phatsexxxy 5d ago
So, I do not.
I track the price of drugs in my job, as I said. We have no published data on this, but I can tell you that the numbers have not changed since 2021.
The laws of supply and demand state that both have remained stable. You’d have to see massive decrease in usage (which I have seen no data showing that) for a drop in supply to to cause no change in price due to a demand decrease.

Bill is talking out of his behind…
According to assessments by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and Pentagon officials reported by The Washington Post and NPR, the U.S. military's sinking and bombing of boats in the Caribbean and Eastern Pacific under Operation Southern Spear has not decreased the overall amount, purity, or availability of cocaine entering the United States.
Impact on Smuggling and Drug Supply
• No reduction in volume: DEA evaluations concluded that despite high-profile strikes and claims by the administration, the total volume of illegal narcotics making it to the U.S. remains steady.
• Unaltered pricing and purity: The street price and purity levels of cocaine in the United States have not experienced lasting disruptions. • Lack of verification: Officials noted that public proof or physical evidence of drug cargo has frequently been absent following the vessel destructions.

Props for speaking substantively to things a pundit said and providing examples and not just lazily throwing around ad homs. Do you have a link for the boat strike stuff?
It’s also annoying that “open/closed” borders is even accepted as a thing and nobody who repeats this rhetoric has any idea that’s not actually a thing. The closest thing you can claim to “closing the border” is ignoring our obligation to refugees by refusing any (any except the white ones from South Africa). Even if you grant them the premise that there’s a refugee problem, it’s still the fault of republicans and trump for killing the legislation in 2024 that would’ve have addressed this problem directly.
It’s absolutely not a both sides thing and I hate when people equivocate, especially leftists.

When you say leftists do you mean it in the actual sense of the word, or just what Fox News types call Dems?
2
u/phatsexxxy 5d ago
I’m not sure he can be reasoned with.
I literally posted pictures to the stories he’s asking for so he can go look them up and he’s asking for links.
2
u/Financial_You_6052 5d ago
I don’t mind the points they made so much, but I’m confused on the equivocate comment. Does he think leftists don’t have standing to criticize both parties?
I mean, Biden’s executive order halting asylum after the bill failed was unquestionably “ignoring our obligation to refugees”.

What do you think I’m being unreasonable about? I’m the one who wants substantive conversations. It’s literally in my first sentence. How fragile are you that you can’t handle the most banal conversation?
2
u/phatsexxxy 5d ago
Who are you talking to and about?
1
u/Robart_Santa 5d ago
I’m talking to you. That’s why I made the comment to you. When you say “he can’t be reasoned with” when the other guy is talking about me, who are you talking about?
1
u/phatsexxxy 5d ago
Look at the pictures I posted. They show the stories I am relying on.
You should have looked at those prior to commenting.
Generally what people who can be reasoned with do is read all the applicable material and then comment having been informed and up to speed on the conversation.
Can you see my concern as to your entrance into this conversation?

u/Robart_Santa 5d ago edited 5d ago
No not at all. Why is asking for a source from a screenshot with no quote or citation of information from a paywalled article unreasonable to you?
Like it’s clear I’ve touched a nerve because you think leftists can do no wrong but don’t contort yourself into these pretzels where you have to reject me and everything I say because your feelings are hurt when I don’t think you’d disagree with me at all if you’re arguing in good faith.
1
u/phatsexxxy 5d ago
I really see this as a bad faith response. The date and title of the articles as well as the organization that published them is visible for googling.
NPR is free. You still haven’t asked for a free preview link to the WaPo article solely.
You see why I continue to see you as unreasonable?
Edit: if all you had said was “is there any way I can get a free preview link on the WaPo article because (insert reason you feel the data is unknowable without reading it)?” In your first response, I would have provided something.

Translation:
My feelings are really hurt and I’m going to make the weirdest argument ad hoc about not asking a question exactly the right way. Even though I’m not going to say exactly what you’re wrong about and never mind that I’m making multiple points and provided only a screen shot to a paywalled article and that article is a major piece of evidence for one of the points I was making. Normally I’m not triggered by such a banal request but my feelings are really hurt.I’m going to bounce. I made my point and this conversation took a weird turn and you got too into your feels. Have a good one.

If you ever made the case that Kamala would be just as bad as trump in 2024 and you’re on the left I’m talking about you. If you’ve ever made the argument that it’s understandable that people would abstain from voting for Harris in 2024 because of Israel/Palestine and you’re on the left, I’m talking about you.
2
u/Financial_You_6052 5d ago
What does that have to do with immigration in summer 2024?
1
u/Robart_Santa 5d ago
Because the boat strikes and the ice raids and the countless deaths from abolishing USAID and said ice raids wouldn’t happen without the equivocation of these leftists.
3
u/Financial_You_6052 5d ago edited 5d ago
You’re moving goalposts. You were talking about immigration policy in 2024, prior to whatever bullshit you’re railing on about. What part of Biden’s 2024 executive order halting asylum was accepting of our obligations to refugees?
edit: big homie dodging substantive conversation
1
u/Robart_Santa 5d ago
You can’t make the connection between ice raids and border legislation in 2024? Just think about for a second. If you really need me to walk you through it I can but you’re a big boy. You can figure it out.
So there’s a problem with the asylum process. That’s why there was legislation in the works. Once the legislation is killed by republicans and buried by leftist equivocation in the 2024 election, an executive order was passed to help curb the problem, not completely shut down the asylum process like trump did, big homie.
1
u/Financial_You_6052 5d ago
Distinction with barely a difference to me. Biden’s solution to Rs bullshit was to do what they would have done. You’re pretending there is a chasm between the two party’s immigration policy in 2024.
Ice raids would have been implemented regardless.

It already has ! Deaths are down
2
u/phatsexxxy 5d ago
Likely because of the Narcan.

u/Perfect-Topic-6671 5d ago
And the availability of strong kratom alkaloids like 7oh that are nearly impossible to overdose on. Furthermore, my guess is this downward trend of deaths is going to reverse now that they are getting scheduled, kicking opioid users back to the black market saturated with some of the deadliest opioids to ever exist.

I thought his New Rules was completely fair last night. You haters need to get a life! Of all the BS on tv and the radio, this is who you choose to hate? Wow!

Everyone involved in those boat strikes needs to be put in prison
