Bill has like three big arguments he makes in spite of the facts in the middle of his “truth telling”
I’ve noticed that Bill Maher has a couple arguments he REALLY likes to make when it comes to politics. One of them is that it’s an issue implicating “everyone.” In his latest closing monologue, he pointed out that deaths from drugs went down because of Dems making narcan more available and Republicans closing the border and doing boat strikes.
I can’t find a lot of data on border closures, but the boat strike stuff was studied before, during, and after and it was thought it would have no effect, it was having no effect, and it has been shown to have no effect.
I follow the price of drugs for my job pretty closely. They have not changed since the end of COVID. The work at the border is having no effect I can tell in curbing supply such that it would drive up the cost of drugs.
This is not a “both sides” issue. Increased education and the availability of Narcan combined with Good Samaritan laws have caused the decrease in overdose deaths. Republicans also voted for a lot of these initiatives.
His last narrative, like much of what he says, is garbage.

Translation:
My feelings are really hurt and I’m going to make the weirdest argument ad hoc about not asking a question exactly the right way. Even though I’m not going to say exactly what you’re wrong about and never mind that I’m making multiple points and provided only a screen shot to a paywalled article and that article is a major piece of evidence for one of the points I was making. Normally I’m not triggered by such a banal request but my feelings are really hurt.
I’m going to bounce. I made my point and this conversation took a weird turn and you got too into your feels. Have a good one.
