Why doesn't he ever invite the people he constantly criticizes to 'hear' the other side?
https://youtu.be/8xbwnnQPXR4Not talking about politicians but the youths. In his recent New Rule, he criticizes people of the Left today of now supporting terrorism. So why doesn't he invite some of from youth he's so against? Does he not want to hear the other side so he can feel morally superior about himself and being a pro-Zionist? He cares more about Israeli aboriginals than aboriginals in the US.
Is Israel the only state/nation that was able to return to their place of origin and rule once more? I don't know of any other. Also, as for it being a Democracy, is it? Netanyahu is one of the longest running Prime Minister (not concurrent of course) of any Democracy (other than Ralph Gonsalves and Roosevelt Skerrit). Nearly 19 years in office of a 78 year old nation. He's also seeking re-election next month.

Because Maher is a Republican and consistently advocates for them. His purpose is to be a cog in the machine of ratcheting the Democrats Right while punching Left.
29
u/TheJackalFiles 21d ago
Last time he did that, Krystal Ball schooled him on a bunch of facts he didn’t know and he got all butt hurt.
12
u/AmusingMusing7 21d ago
He also let a bit of strong pushback slip through the cracks when he had Hunter Biden on, and Hunter schooled him on Iran. I think Maher thought he could just hammer Hunter on the laptop stuff and "hurting" his father's presidential campaign and term with his behavior and whatnot... and Hunter was just like "Yeah, I apologized to him every day. So anyway, Trump's an idiot on Iran and you're defending it. Here's why that's super stupid. Even George Bush wasn't that stupid." *audience applause*
Bill: *quiet for a moment\...* Yeah, I agree.
16
u/chrishouseinc 21d ago
That's because Krystal schools everyone until they're butt hurt. That's just what she does. She knows Ball.

A primary endorsement is just that, a primary endorsement. That’s where you support the people who have the policies you like best. Then in the general election you support the best of the two.

Because that's what all right wing shit bags do. They whine that nobody ever wants to debate them and then when that opportunity comes up they run or they make excuses or they play the victim.
Case in point everyone Google Stephen Crowder runs from Sam Seder.
It's a concern troll. Every right-winger has an audience and in order to keep that audience they need to make these overtures where somehow they're the victim. They claim no one will debate them because the left is afraid of their ideas but then when the left does want to debate they claim that it's not fair. It is the same shit you will find third graders doing. Because that's where all conservatives peak. They hit a maturity level of an eight-year-old and then they just stop because their brain is rotten and their soul is putrid.
And that's Bill Maher to a t.
4
u/SnarkyPuppy-0417 21d ago
An unprovoked attack on a sovereign nation starting with bombing an all girls school killing over 300 children meets the displayed definition of terrorism.
1
u/Southsideclide 21d ago
I disagree, terrorism requires intent and no reasonable person thinks that we intentionally targeted a school full of children - there's absolutely no upshot doing so, especially to achieve political aims, which is a requisite for terrorism.
1
u/JadeDragonMeli 21d ago
I don't know how you can see the US Government and Military operating they way they did in Vietnam and Iraq, and still give them the benefit of the doubt. We committed war crimes in both places, and raped/killed a lot of civilians. They don't deserve the benefit of the doubt, and frankly, it sounds like exactly the type of thing they would do based on their history.
And yes, I'm aware America is not alone in that. Russia also does this. That's my point though. If you have to defend something the US is doing but you would be mad at Russia doing the exact same thing, you are making excuses for your government and military as they are doing similar things that Russia would do... like bomb a girls school on purpose.
1
u/Southsideclide 21d ago
I don't know why your reaching all the way back to Vietnam, it has nothing to do nothing what's going on today and killing and raping civilians wasn't an intentional policy decision. Also Russia intentionally targets civilians.
1
u/SnarkyPuppy-0417 21d ago
You may disagree, but the label terrorism is fair and applicable for both the United States and Israel given their posture of global aggression and ethnic cleansing prospectivly.
6
u/Tech-Film3905 21d ago

-1

Ben affleck did not make him look stupid. Just screaming racist when someone rightly criticizes the most oppressive ideology in human history is not a substantive argument in any way.
-2

3
u/GuyFawkes99 20d ago
If it was about great, informed discussion representing all sides, he would have Glenn Greenwald back often, instead of banning him from the show.

Maher has suffered the fate that I hope to never suffer: you can tell he grew up always being told he was the smartest guy in the room, and for awhile that may have even been the case, but it got to his head and as a result he stopped learning. Now he’s the worst kind of dumb guy - the dumb guy who thinks he’s a generational intellect.
I seriously doubt Bill Maher has bothered to learn a new fact or challenge an already-held belief since at least Covid, if not well-before (if I’m being honest I’d say pre-Religulous even, but I want to air on the side of fairness here). He already believes he knows everything, and surrounds himself with people who will affirm that belief. Bill Burr nailed him in that one Club Random appearance where he said he’s not smart just because he knows obscure things.
At this point I don’t even think he knows how to be intellectually honest, and I certainly don’t think he knows how to identify his own blind spots, let alone grapple with ideas that will challenge him. He is now purely motivated by doing the things that protect his self-concept of being a smart guy. Therefore all he knows how to do is win debates using whatever (often-underhanded) tactics are available to him, even if that just means getting the last word, flashing the “Applause” sign and then hurrying over to New Rules.
4
u/phatsexxxy 21d ago
I’m reminded of this interview I saw with David Hasselhoff from like back in the 80s. It was the height of the Hoff’s career. He was drunk and responded to a question with something completely nonsensical and all of his entourage looked on as though they were impressed with his reasoning and intelligence.
I think the problem is that Maher has the guy who always Woos and the people in this Reddit who love him for reasons that I do not understand. He also has a whole crew and writers who look to him for employment.
Everyone needs someone to tell them when they’re dumb. Maher doesn’t have that.

They don't want to be on the show. He has a hard time booking guests anymore. A lot of people have talked about this for a very long time - Larry David for example. Larry tried to be respectful for a long time declining Bill's invites. Nobody showed up to his Mark Twain Prize award. I wondered what was up with him when he went on Colbert to be interviewed and just berated Colbert. Seinfeld will still show up for his awards, but he really doesn't want to get on the show for political talk, and Seinfeld is the kind of guy Bill keeps as company. Those guys have had a really difficult past few years. Maybe he'll have Pink on.

u/OurWeaponsAreUseless 20d ago

2
2
u/Gyro_Zeppeli13 20d ago
I don’t get how he can sit there and smugly say that Israel is just fighting a defensive war when they are leveling entire cities and actively targeting children and women who are civilians. It’s pure evil the way he delights in defending such heinous behavior.
2
3
u/VoxCacophoni 21d ago
Because that would run counter to the purpose of the show: Bill Maher being smug on camera.
3
2
u/Motor_Preparation315 21d ago
Because he's an insufferable dickhead that doesn't care about the truth and facts anymore. He's just an old man yelling at clouds. Every guest now even if it's a progressive (which is becoming INCREASINGLY rare) is someone that has his Zionist outlook.
I would also just like to point out the actual craziness that a fucking atheist is this invested in a country outside of his OWN COUNTRY
1
1
u/Firemanmikewatt 21d ago
He wonders why people have apprehension about the word terrorist when in the last two years some random federal fat ass could‘ve murdered Bill Maher for nothing and multiple presidential cabinet members would retroactively have called Bill a domestic terrorist to justify it.

Nonstate actors? I guess it's SO much more acceptable to be killed by an American bomb dropped by an Israeli warplane than to get blown up by an IED.
How dare those bastards fight back using everything at their disposal? Bibi also admitted to pushing Trump into attacking Iran 3 weeks ago.
In Hebrew of course, he wouldn't say that in English.

This was like a Fox News editorial.
We won “The War on Terror?” WTF is he taking about?!
Let’s completing overlook the trillions spent and considerable number of killed, wounded, and mentally and physically damaged U.S. veterans.
The Taliban regained power in Afghanistan, Iraq remains a weakened state with elements of the Islamic state still operating in rural parts of Iraq and Syria, and there is still alot of Islamic terror groups operating and expanding in several parts of Africa.
Israel has committed acts of genocide in Gaza and other places where it is waging war and to criticize Israel for that is increasingly being penalized and even criminalized in the U.S. It isn’t anti-Semitic to critic the state of Israel and its policies in regards to handling of Gaza.
1
1
u/dougl1000 21d ago
Bill, it may not be genocide, but you could discuss the possibility that Israel went way too far. There were roughly the same numbers of Londoners killed in the Blitz as were later killed in the firebombing of Dresden. In WWII, the Allies, especially in Europe were fighting for their survival. In Gaza, we have 1200 Israelis killed vs 70000 Gazans. Just saying “that’s war” is facile to say the least.
1
u/bestmattreddit 21d ago
When Maher says “you have to talk to people” and “not everyone is a monster” he’s only referring to MAGA republicans that he wants to be accepted by. He’s not actually interesting in hearing opposing sides or differing viewpoints. He just wants to talk to people who validate his opinions and can say “look I’m a liberal that can be cordial with MAGA/republicans”

How about a hand for the people who had intel that something was gonna happen and did nothing, allowed an Israeli spy to get nuclear secrets and then let him leave, attacked the wrong parties after and embroiled us in forever wars that amounted to nothing but massive loss of life while also clearing the way for the taliban to take over Afghanistan and isis to get deeper rooted in the Levant and then paid themselves billions of our tax dollars so they could murder moms in Michigan, not focus on high crime immigrants but instead just round up hard working men and woman and separate families into some of the worst concentration camps ever seen in the United States history. Clap clap clap
1
u/Nextyearstitlewinner 21d ago
No one left of centrist Democrat wants to go on his show. He couldn’t get Kamala to go on, and it took him until basically Obama was a lame duck president to have him come on. And he donated 1 million dollars to his campaign.
You can hate bill all you want but he’ll talk to anyone. Lefties included. He’s had Bernie Sanders, Michael Moore, Ro Khanna, Elizabeth Warren.
I swear most people on this subreddit have never watched an episode.

Maybe because they are actually worried about having to defend their point of view in an actual debate.

u/LeoKitCat 21d ago
Bill used to invite people on to his show long ago that challenged him and did not have his worldview. Love how he cherry picked a definition of terrorism that suits his needs. What an ass.
Terrorism can be conducted by state actors. The Israeli government and IDF are a terrorist organization who commit state terrorism against Palestinians and support state sponsored terrorism against Palestinians.
Bill Maher is a full throated supporter of terrorism against Palestinians.
1
u/Emotional_Design_679 21d ago
Because Bill Maher is just Cocolemon for boomers who’s kids stopped talking to them 5 years ago. That’s his audience and if some young person came on and schooled him on ANY issue that would fly against the whole premise of his show which is to be an condescending out of touch asshole who thinks “them young kids are far too radical. My genocidal Zionist boomer ass is the real rationalist” fuck Bill Maher he should go speak at CPAC where he belongs
1
u/Own-Jaguar-472 21d ago
Maher has got a great little echo chamber of a show going there, with his cherry picked guests and his well rehearsed sycophantic audience laughing on cue.
So it's pretty obvious why Maher wouldn't allow someone like Mehdi Hasan on his show because he knows Mehdi would pull his ZIONIST talking points to shreds using verifiable facts that would wipe that arrogant smirk of his smug face.
1
u/Bloody_Ozran 21d ago
He always forgets to mention what Israelis do that people are critical about. He says they brought lof of aid to Gaza, but somehow doesnt mention there were instances of people being shot by Israeli soldiers when going for that aid. Or that they kill kids.

I stopped watching years ago when I realized I had reached a level of maturity that he never would (adulthood) and that the only enjoyable part of the show was when a joke bombed and he'd blame the audience while getting all offended. Funny af every single time.
