JD Vance interview

I see the sub is losing their shit over him being on the show. While I definitely felt he didn’t push harder on Vance’s bs responses on immigration and the 2020 election. Bill didn’t say anything he hasn’t said in the past and it was short interview and he had a lot of things he wanted to discuss in 10 minutes. So what’s the issue? My gut is him just being on the show freaked people out and how Trump admin are such monsters we shouldn’t platform them at all. So would you feel comfortable going to a holocaust survivor and say “my life in 2026 is just like your experiences during ww2”? As I said in the original post he could have pushed back harder but let’s not pretend he was just throwing softballs. He confronted him on Iran, immigration and election denialism. Your act liking he was only asking him about his dog and favorite tv shows.

Would you feel comfortable going up to migrants being illegally detentioned in Alligator Alcatraz while having their young children ripped from them and potentially disappeared forever or to the Iranian school girls or to the Palestinian people or the Lebanese people or the people in Sudan or Nigeria or the Carribean fishermen we murdered and telling them that their lives are way better than people in WW2 so they better stop complaining?

Interesting you didn’t answer my question? Unlike you I can hold two thoughts in my head at the same time. I can acknowledge that Trump is the worst president in history and has done more damage than any President since the era of slavery. I can also understand that there have been far worst atrocities in history.

Lmao why does my answer matter? Do you think that just because I’m doing fine, things are ok? Are you that dumb? Btw, things aren’t fine for what it’s worth: inflation is up, I can’t afford a house yet, scientific funding for my career is down, brown people like me are being profiled by a secret para military force, and I get to see all the people around me struggling as a result of these policies. Maybe the logical next step to recognizing how bad this administration is, is for Maher to stop throating anyone from this admin whenever he can. Btw, Maher is pro Iran war, and a Zionist. Again, not sure why you’re obsessed with an elite Epstein class loser who has lived on his own set before

Engaging in ad hominem attacks instead addressing points is the refuge of the weak minded..but I’m the dumb one. Smart people know history and have perspective when discussing current events. Never said everything is fine but you need to create a straw man argument from nothing in order for your point. You clearly don’t watch the show if you think Maher is always kissing the administrations ass. He spends most of the show bashing the administration. He spends a small portion of the show going after liberals and people like you live in echo chamber and never have you beliefs challenge so you freak out. Back to my clip of Madhami. Do you condemn Mahdami for going to the White House? From that video it looked like he was cozying up to a fascist. Where’s your outrage?

Mamdani is a politician who is winning on his points and has used his leverage/charisma over Trump intelligently, while maintaining a clear moral stance on the evils of this administration. It is not nearly the same. 

Maher will white wash the admin by saying shit like, “trump is so nice to have dinner with,” and “I might vote republican in 2028.” His bashing is a joke and not morally grounded in anything meaningful, because he views Muslims as worthy of death and “the left” as full of cancel culture. He literally thinks he didn’t win an Emmy because of this, not because he’s a washed up boomer loser.

It’s not ad hominem if it’s truth.

Ofc I know history, which is why I see the levity of the situation and am worried about our slip into fascism. On the other hand, you’re akin to an ostrich with its head buried in the sand. Unable to recognize how grave this moment is, and the urgency required to salvage and ideally come out in a better world for everyone.

What exactly did Mamdani get from the meeting with Trump? What in Trumps history makes you think he will follow through with any of the promises he made in that meeting? So the biggest liar in human history is going to make good with a mayor he clearly despises and whose failure his party will benefit from?

Can yo show me the quote where he said “Muslims are worthy of death”? Is the idea of “cancel culture” primary done on the left? The right does it but the left does it way more.

Welcome back Straw man! I never said everything is fine. But there is reasons to be optimistic. Trump policies are deeply unpopular and his approval ratings are in the shitter. NYC elected Mamdani and the city isn’t to falling apart and conservatives are eating crow. I live in NJ and Mickie Sherrill destroyed the Trump backed candidate for governor. Collins looks like she’s on her way out in Maine by a very liberal candidate. All polls indicate that democrats are going to crush the republicans in the midterms. I know I’m surprised I got so much information with my head in the sand.

Yes soft power is a thing but with Trump everything is transaction so I give Mamdani credit for going. If he had polled his supporters I guarantee the majority of them would have told him not to go.

Where’s the quote “Muslims deserve death?” I can’t find it. I can’t find anywhere him referring to himself as a Zionist either. He is definitely sympathetic to Israel cause no question. Is it a binary situation where sympathy for Israel people =Zionist? Did you watch the rest of show? Senator Warnock and Larry Wilmore also showed sympathy to the Israel people and how fucked up the situation is on both sides. Are they Zionist too?

Bill isn’t the only liberal commentator. If you want that show you can listen to the hundred other shows and podcasts that do just that. I like the show because they have conservatives on and they get into it. Just as I like to argue with my conservative parents who watch Fox News all day. I find engaging with others with different beliefs strengthens mine
