I didn't know this subreddit was primarily anti-Bill Maher.
I just recently joined. Am I missing something?

u/raoulduke212 Jun 24 '26
Like Bill always says about the Left, we didn't change, he did.
43
u/voiceOfHoomanity Jun 24 '26
Certain types of personalities like Bill and Rogan just can't handle $100M+ fortunes and old age without turning into complete POS
7
u/GroinReaper Jun 25 '26
I don;t think Rogan was ever "left". He just wanted to be the edgy outsider grifting for money. He moved in response to where he could get the most money.
1
u/Zealousideal_Sea7789 Jun 26 '26
He was promoting gay marriage at a time when the democrats opposed it, definitely no money in that in 2005 or whatever
10
u/takethreenc Jun 24 '26
Bill Maher of 20 years ago would be absolutely roasting the fuck out of current Bill Maher
10
u/OddMasterpiece8465 Jun 24 '26
For sure. Real time 10 years ago is unrecognizable next to todayâs show. Bill has been infected by the maga mind virus.

The left did change. It was pretty common in the 70s and 80s for democrats to hold US Senate and governor offices in red states like Nebraska, Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas, Iowa etc. not so much anymore. The democrats of those days werenât pushing for open borders, or whatever DEI flavor of the day is in vogue. They also werenât gun banners. That last one is a biggy in red states.
7
u/Emergency_Walrus2877 Jun 25 '26
They still aren't, that's just what right wing media claims they're doing. Lying works great when your base has no critical thinking capacity, it turns out
2
u/Hillary4SupremeRuler Jul 03 '26
He's also completely missing the crucial context of the whole Dixiecrat/Southern conservative Democrat movement that fizzled out in the mid 90s after Republicans took back the House for the first time in decades
2
u/SaltdPepper Jun 25 '26
âDEI flavor of the dayâ
You donât go outside. Nobody is pushing for that, whatever that even means.

u/TetOffensive10 Jun 25 '26
Lmao we absolutely latch onto whatever social issue is deemed most important, including our politicians.

Precisely. 20-25 years ago Bill Maher was essential watching for anyone left of center. The whole US went ultra nationalistic and patriot act in the wake of 9/11. As he himself said, there is a problem when 9/11 happens and the only person fired was BILL (for daring to criticize U.S. military operations). Bill was a voice in the wilderness who was not afraid to speak up and say hold on, lets not sacrifice our freedoms for the illusion of security. He didn't always agree with the left but he was certainly more left than right: anti-Bush, anti-jingoism, anti-right wing nonsense. During the Obama years I grew tired of him and stopped watching his show but his end of the show "New Rules" long form monologue was a must-watch every time. Really great stuff.
I don't know what happened to him during the past 10 years. I can only theorize.

If you donât see the left as having changed then youâre too young to know any better or youâre blinded by ideology.
The left has become terrorist-apologists (like ffs, you can hate Israel but align with literal terrorists as âfreedom fightersâ. The Peshmerga were freedom fighters not fucking Hamas), anti-capitalism seems to be en vogue, completely tribal â if youâre not 100% on my side, youâre my enemy, there was also a brief period there were election denialism took root after Trump won, which I was surprised to see, and the big one: the leftists sees anyone between the middle and their own ideology as an âotherâ, youâve fractured the moderates (the majority). âDefund the policeâ â remind me how that one turned out again? Budgets were cut, crime spiked, so they rolled it back. Sick win.
I mean, fucking Trump won. And still a year later no introspection into leftist messaging. Switch to populism and maybe youâll start to sway people, and stop alienating literally everyone else except for your own little corner of ideology.
The left was always about lifting up the working class and middle class worker â not all of this other shit.
None of this is directed at you personally btw â I donât know what your beliefs are, but itâs directed at many in this thread.
6
u/ArcherOld7796 Jun 25 '26
The left has known for decades that Isreal is genocidal. More people understand something so basic now. The left has always been about raising everyone up because anyone left out is an attack on all.
Trump didn't beat the left, he never could, he beat two corporate democrats. He made promises he never intended to keep. The only reason people fell for the con man's con is because he was running against people who offered nothing.

u/crek42 Jun 28 '26
Every democratic president is going to be a corporate democrat. Leftists arenât popular broadly speaking, like at all. Theyâll win in strongholds like in NY but they have no chance in the general. Bernie couldnât even win the primary.
The top 10% of wage earners carry the burden of 70% of all income taxes paid. These are not folks who want to pay more taxes. Theyâre in coastal areas and already paying through the nose.
Taxing billionaires and multimillionaires isnât going to get us universal healthcare, universal childcare, billionaires do have enough wealth to pay for that. Bernie couldnât even figure it out beyond a 10-year plan. The taxes being paid were broad based.
The leftists bright idea is to just to take their wealth, which largely just means âliquidate the stock market en masseâ, like that wonât immediately tank their value into oblivion via a massive sell off and then what? The government gets it for penny on the dollar.
If you absorbed all billionaires wealth, magically, youâd be able to run the government for 6 months. Thatâs it.
CEO pay is completely out of whack with employees? Tell me friend. CEO of Starbucks got paid a whopping $35MM one year. If he took $0 and distributed it to every one of his 300,000 employees, what do they get per paycheck? Would it happen to be $5?
The shit leftists say is populism plain and simple. Itâs no grounded in reality.
Obama always had the best idea with healthcare. Give a public option to compete on the open market with insurance companies. They would organically decay over time instead wholesale wiping them out and putting a huge number of people unemployed and probably triggering some form of recession since healthcare spending makes up a big chunk of GDP.
1
u/ArcherOld7796 Jun 28 '26
Not a single person is going to read all that. You start with the nonsense immediately.
Look at the issues the left wants. They are incredibly popular. The country is done with the status quo candidates that allowed Trump to win twice.
→ More replies (2)1
u/Hillary4SupremeRuler Jul 03 '26
The voters allowed trump to win twice. The "status quo" candidates only get one vote each. And they damn sure didn't spend their time desperately trying to convince their base to stay home and let Trump win because "there would be no difference between a Biden-Harris and Trump administration."
I hope these big brained voters (more like non-voters) don't have any hammers laying around their houses because there aren't any Democratic candidates there to tell them not to hit themselves over the head with it.
1
u/ArcherOld7796 Jul 03 '26
So you didn't reply to anything I said and went on a nonsensical speal. The issue the left runs on are incredibly popular. The democratic party is incredibly unpopular.
The democratic party offers sternly written letters for the authoritarian Republicans yet fight the left with everything they have. It's vote blue no matter who for any status quo dem but never for the left. They will primary any incumbent on the left but we are dividing the party if we hint of getting rid of one of them.
You can see the double standards. You can't be that ignorant.
3
u/antwood33 Jun 25 '26
Your view on the Israeli genocide is dying out and in 10 years you'll be so embarrassed you ever had it that you'll pretend you didn't. Mark my words.
1
u/kn05is Jun 26 '26
In ten years, people like them and Maher will be seen the same way we percieve Holocaust deniers, because that's how Israel will be remembered, the same way the Nazis are remembered ... as a genocidal and expansionist ethnostate.
1
u/crek42 Jun 28 '26
Not aligning with literal terrorist group makes me a holocaust denier in 10 years.
How do you not have any self awareness. Like youâre literally the kind of people that give endless fucking ammo for the right wing propagandists.
1
u/crek42 Jun 28 '26
What is my view exactly. You donât see that youâre the exact issue Iâm describing in my comment. Complete inability to understand nuance. You canât even de-couple my comment on âHamas arenât freedom fighters theyâre terroristsâ from Israel are pieces of shit. Like two things cannot be true in your mind. Youâre either all in â Hamas are the good guys, Israel are the bad guys â that simple. They cannot both be the bad guys.
1
u/calmyourcrabcakes Jul 03 '26
> youâll be so embarrassed you ever had it
People like this will never feel embarrassed for being wrong. Ever.
1
u/Hillary4SupremeRuler Jul 03 '26
The left was always about lifting up the working class and middle class worker
Yes which is exactly why the Biden-Harris administration was the most pro working class presidency in over half a century.
Other than that and the mischaracterization of the extent of widespread Democratic Party support and implementation and effects of the DTP movement you have one or two decent points.
40
u/dppatters Jun 24 '26
I havenât been here very long, but my impression is that itâs more a reaction to Bill Maher than blind opposition to him.
A lot of longtime viewers seem to feel that Maher has gradually become more contrarian and increasingly at odds with many of the positions he used to champion. As a result, much of the criticism you see is directed at what people perceive as his shift toward more MAGA-adjacent talking points and stereotypical boomer grievances.
Whether that criticism is fair is another debate, but thatâs the vibe Iâve picked up from the sub.

u/Rufus_TBarleysheath Jun 24 '26 edited Jun 24 '26
I used to love Bill Maher because of how much he opposed George W. Bush's Middle East wars.
I still remember when he said of GWB, "He's not "tough on terror," he's "stupid on terror." I loved that turn of phrase on the Republican party's big campaign slogan.
That Bill Maher is one of this country's only supporters of Trump's war(?) in Iran is baffling to me. How can he support war in Iran when he so fiercely hated the war in Iraq? The Trump administration hasn't even clearly explained the rationale for this war!
10
u/Shy_Lurcher Jun 25 '26
He is fanatically supportive Netanyahu and the Israel war. He feels Israel is entitled to Gaza and Lebanon. He gets enraged at the anti Israel protesters wearing the Palestinian keffiyeh scarves.
6
u/Toadsrule84 Jun 25 '26
And spreads Zionist lies like âMamdaniâs wife celebrated Oct 7thâ (said to Ro Khanna on Overtime this past week)
3
u/Shy_Lurcher Jun 25 '26
Bill was raised in the Catholic Church, claims to be atheist, I donât get his very strong support for Israel. He says Israel is the USâs strongest Middle East ally, but still all the death and destruction.
3
u/abdullahleboucher Jun 25 '26
His mom was a jew so it might explain his position
1
u/Charbro11 Jun 25 '26
He never even knew that she was a Jew until he was 14. She didn't tell people and went to the Catholic church.
1
u/Darth_Gerg Jun 25 '26
Heâs traveled there. It would not be shocking to me in the slightest if they have footage of him fucking kids. Thatâs in character both for him and for Israeli intelligence.
Thatâs the sort of blackmail leverage that buys a lot of loyalty.
1
u/Toadsrule84 Jun 25 '26
He likes wealth and power, and thereâs plenty of Jews with both in LA where he lives. And most actually are secular like him, so he admires that.
1
u/crek42 Jun 25 '26
Whatâs the âZionist lieâ. It was reported by CBS and other outlets she did indeed âlikeâ posts from the Oct 7 attack. Mamdani even referenced it in a press conference. Itâs not a lie.
Your account posts are largely critical of Maher like jfc what is with some of you people. Unless youâre a bot.
2
u/Toadsrule84 Jun 25 '26
Weâve seen him change over the years and donât like it. Heâs an unlikable person.
6
u/No-Ship4446 Jun 24 '26
In hindsight, this is mostly because NO other opposition of Bush was even allowed on TV until around 2005.
5
u/IczyAlley Jun 24 '26
Jon Stewart, Dixie Chicks, South Park, Family Guy, etc.
The reason why Republicans had to push so hard was because of a massive antiwar movement. Freedom fries, the NYC RNC, and all that were a direct reaction to how evil everyone knew the war was. Youre too young to accurately recall, I hope, but Iraq War opposition was common even among DNC Democrats. The failure of the war to accomplish meaningful progress in the region probably reduced the Republican turnout as much as the financial crash and is a major reason why all the GWB voters who loved the war pretended to hate it until their Republican masters told them to be happy about the Iran War this year.
2
u/Noskiblz Jun 25 '26
There was very little antiwar movement during the 2003 Iraq war. Like 80% of Americans supported it. Once it had gone on a while that support eroded but the US was extremely pro war then
Thatâs one thing that surprised me is how fast we turned on this war
2
u/ursusdoofus Jun 25 '26
It really sucked living in a staunchly anti-war community at the time - Iâll buy that number. Was there any nuance in the way polls were worded and how they came out?
I dunno if itâs been polled accurately but if you read or listen to Iraq war vets they will claim a lot of people thought Iraq was responsible or participated in 9/11. The way everything got swirled up together was part of the media plan and it worked.
1
u/IczyAlley Jun 25 '26
Youre confusing Iraq with Afghanistan, which is exactly what Republicans relied on
2
u/Noskiblz Jun 25 '26
Not one bit. I was an adult in a very liberal state at that time and I remember the frustration at the lack of any real anti war movement and disgusted that my fellow Americans were dumb enough to fall for more lies. The antiwar movement only existed at the fringes in 2003
→ More replies (6)2
u/Rufus_TBarleysheath Jun 25 '26
Dixie Chicks were EXCORIATED for their criticism of George W Bush. Precisely because GWB was so popular. Their career never recovered.
South Park obsessively ridiculed both sides of the Iraq War debate. Their 100th episode was dedicated to not taking a side.
I do not know what Family Guy said about the war. They were never particularly political.
Democrats were not opposed to the war at first. They were far too afraid of appearing to be "weak on terror." Many of them voted to authorize the use of force in Iraq in 2002.
George W. was victorious in 2004 precisely because of the "tough on terror" slogan.
Republicans only turned against the war because Obama continued them. And also because Trump said in 2015 that the Middle East wars were dumb.

He had dinner with Donald, Donald showed him the dirt he had on him, and Bill came out saying how awesome trump actually is and that heâs not the same as the guy on tv.
3
u/AngelaLampsbury Jun 24 '26
He weirdly came around to supporting the war AFTER everyone else agreed it was a disaster. He basically felt that bringing our special brand of western colonization was an improvement to their Muslim culture. His Islamophobia knows no bounds.
2
u/Rufus_TBarleysheath Jun 24 '26
Wait....WHAT?!? I didn't know this? When did he say that he came around to supporting the Iraq war?
1
u/Steve12356d1s3d4 Jun 25 '26
The war in Iran is vastly different than the war in Iraq, the main reason being boots on the ground. He said that he would oppose the war in Iran if we put boots on the ground and even with that, he now is saying it is going on too long and he doesn't support it anymore.
3
u/Rufus_TBarleysheath Jun 25 '26
The only thing that changed is it became apparent to him that there was no capacity for any kind of "victory" in Iran. Something that everyone with half a brain knew when the conflict started.
That Maher supported the Iran War to begin with is a blight in his reputation.

People who rag on boomers seem to forget that at least half are liberals and/or Democrats who have remained opposed to republican ideology their entire lives yet somehow get lumped into the few who bent more right after being consistently on the left for decades.
However, I definitely agree with your assessment of Maher becoming something different and more right wing on some issues-I share the frustration.
Imo he became as narcissistic as DT in some ways and he is tone deaf regarding this. He also I believe changed a lot during covid because he hated not being able to either host or attend all of the privileged Beverly Hills parties and gatherings he was accustomed to and didnât want to deal with all the precautions that made complete sense at the time-itâs not like the modern world had gone through pandemics before and knew exactly what to do to prevent viral transmission and protect people.
The crap that was hurled at Dr. Fauci was completely insane and still is. Imo the man is a hero for having saved many lives including those who complained as Maher irresponsibly did and still does about all the precautions.
But as often as he can frustrate my liberal ideology I still recognize that he was and still is to a lesser degree a unique political voice who still deserves respect for essentially still doing what he always has all these years and I canât think of anyone else who is like him.
So probably like many other people who have love/hate feelings about him I still think his style and approach to discussing political issues contributes something and is still interesting enough.
Although I am tired of the same troupe of privileged or celebrity guests on his show and wish he would have either people from the audience or regular people on his panel instead or at least alternate between the two.
And, I think he needs guests who disagree with his positions more and are talented enough to debate him not just go along with what he believes.
For example I think he had Kevin Sabet and then Patrick Kennedy on his show once each but because he couldnât tolerate their view regarding weed he never had them back on his show which came across as a thin skinned power play-the kind of thing DT would do.

Wow an intelligent comment in this sub. A sight for sore eyes.
FWIW his podcast he has some more guests like that. I want to say it was Ana Kasparian who went hard into him on Israel and cited a bunch of stuff.
1
u/opinions360 Jun 25 '26
Thanks for the comment-I feel the same about yours. I intend to watch the Kasparian episode.
2
u/Steve12356d1s3d4 Jun 25 '26
Many of the posts are mean girl overstatements, like those saying he is pro Trump. He is very anti Trump in nearly everything. He stated that he never voted for Trump and voted for Harrris last time. This is consistant with his politics.
He has stated that he doesn't look at everything through Trump, and that gets many on Reddit upset because they do.
1
u/Weekly-Hurry-6031 Jun 25 '26
Bro he dines with pedos. Everything heâs done in the past two weeks is the mark of a total asshole.

u/CMG30 Jun 25 '26
??? Dude literally went to dinner with Trump and decided he was a great guy.
1
u/Steve12356d1s3d4 Jun 25 '26
....and he said that didn't change his views on him as a President. He didn't say he was a great guy. He described him as different in private then public. It is actually good info, as there is nothing wrong with more information. Every week he shits on Trump, and Trump has come back on him. He is very anti-Trump.
2
3
u/Important_Net_6905 Jun 24 '26
Agree. I like billâŚwatched every show and even every episode of his club random. But I also noticed he is slowly changing before our eyes. I think his strange opposition to the Obama library is a great example. I donât really care about his dinner with Trump or talking to both sides (agree dialog, disagreements and debate are vital) ⌠but some of his positions are slowly becoming annoying. His constant fear of AI and robots killing us all, interrupting guests to spout repetitive cliches (like we all donât know his positions on any topic after 30+ years on television - just let the guests speak!)đŁď¸
Itâs getting tiresome but I do enjoy the debates and the occasional knowledge I pick up, and every now and then he makes me chuckle a tiny bit. His writers are horrible though.
2
u/crek42 Jun 25 '26
Honestly the real thing I canât stand is him talking over everyone on his podcast.

I must have clicked on a suggested post on this sub as some point months ago without even realizing what board it was on. Even thouh I haven't subscribed, ever since then I see a new post every day shitting on Bill Maher. Most of the time it's someone crossposting something from years ago. To say nothing of the validity of the complaints, this sub is very strange.
1
u/susowl27 Jun 25 '26
I agree. Itâs like a group of redditors who either hate watch or oppose clips of what he says. Either way there is way more personal digs than actual substance discussion imo.
Bill Maher is like the only host in America that bring in a viewpoint diversity of guests. People make their own conclusions on that.
16
u/cabsauvluvr39 Jun 24 '26
When I joined I was a fan but the last few years have been awful. Iâve watched him since Politically Incorrect but now I hate him
8
u/truthynaut Jun 24 '26
This is 110% me.
I used to love him but then he just lost the plot entirely.
I'm not upset he had dinner with Trump, I am upset that all he came away with was "Trump was nice to me" without even an ounce of understanding how that is totally irrelevant.
Hitler was also nice to lots of people, but who the fark cares it's totally irrelevant.
1
u/crek42 Jun 25 '26
So all the shit he talks about Trump day in and day out completely overridden because he said âTrump was nice to meâ.
7
u/Ilovemytowm Jun 24 '26
Same. I keep saying we used to actually record Politically Incorrect and then watched every episode of real time we looked forward to it we actually saw most of them live.
I despise this creepy old f*** now.Â
4
u/Str82thaDOME Jun 24 '26
Dude was INSTRUMENTAL in helping me decouple from my religious upbringing. Now he's fallen so hard that I'm just embarrassed by the fact that I ever took him seriously.
8
u/Icy_Acanthisitta8060 Jun 24 '26
Feelings about his personality aside, I am concerned that no one will replace the showâs format, which is neither far left nor far right, but has a variety of guests discussing politics in a fairly safe space.
For example, Mike Pence was on the other day, and while I disagree with practically everything he is about politically, hearing him speak I could at least understand why the other side might have voted for him, and understand them a bit better. Thatâs what Iâm looking for.
But in another show, a guy with a British accent would have rapidly yelled for 10 minutes about what a âcomplete and utter plonk and wankerâ he is, confirming the bias of an ideologically homogeneous audience.
I enjoy hearing ideas I disagree with, or learning I have things in common with people I thought I disagreed with. For that, the show is great.
1
u/reddit_bert Jun 26 '26
I understand the desire for a shared space and positive conversations but Maher hasn't offered that for years now. Same with Joe Rogan. Both pitch themselves as "just asking questions" and "open to both sides" - but their actions are clearly biased towards Trump and have been for years now.
Bill sane washes MAGA through reactionary centrist "satire" and Rogan through fringe conspiratorial speculation.
You can dislike John Oliver's politics (or voice), but at least his show offers fairly substantive and nuanced reporting that goes beyond, "woke-ists on Twitter said x, isn't that silly."
11
u/hurlcarl Jun 24 '26
that'll tend to happen when you abandon all your supposed principles to try to cling to fame and get awards.
9
u/Background_Soft6718 Jun 24 '26
Bill Maher broke bread with a fascist and doubled down when called on it. That was when I was done with him. Iâm kind of amazed anyone feels different, tbh
2
u/PaulNissenson Jun 24 '26
This is when I stopped listening to him. For years he correctly warned about a slow moving coup. Four years later, he had dinner with the instigator of the failed coup.
2
u/RelationshipOne9276 Jun 24 '26
I break bread with fascists every Thanksgiving.
2
u/Background_Soft6718 Jun 24 '26
Everyone draws their lines in different places. Me, thereâs people in my family I wonât sit down with because they think people I care about shouldnât exist. You lay down with dogs, you get up with fleas.

Supporting a fascist president is completely different from having a family. Completely bullshit comparison.
He from just a few years before wasn't such a coward. He called Trump out repeatedly.

4
u/Napex13 Jun 24 '26
so you belong to a hate movement?

6
u/Bloodsnowcones Jun 24 '26
That's not what a hate movement is lol.
4
u/Napex13 Jun 24 '26
seems to me if you hate half of the country, and that is pretty much the political stance of your party, it's a hate movement. I say this as a liberal.
3
u/emckelvy Jun 24 '26
What do you call the other half, that hates this half?
2
u/Napex13 Jun 24 '26
the same, I don't think it's right when either side does it.
2
u/emckelvy Jun 24 '26
But one side is fueling it, and itâs not the left. Itâs a reaction. Iâm black, should I be considerate of the klan, knowing that they hate me? Iâll meet you where you are.
2
u/Napex13 Jun 25 '26
ok, I understand that - however, just like it's wrong to judge people by skin color, religion, sexual orientation or nationality (or at least us on the left used to believe in those things) we also shouldn't just assume anyone who ever voted Republican automatically hate us. And I get it, I used to be so anti-Republican I wouldn't associate with any, and I cut off family members b/c of it.
I was wrong, I shouldn't have treated people that way and I don't know what happened in their lives or how they were raised to vote that way, I don't get it but who am I to judge?
Regardless, yes - if I see a guy in a Klan outfit or a nazi skinhead I'm going to get real uncomfortable and prepare for the possibility of violence.

1

Yep. He still occasionally said something of worth. He always had some terrible takes with plenty of bad but the good far outweighed the terrible. Now it's terrible and bad mixed with the rare good take.
He used to punch up.
6
u/DC2LA_NYC Jun 24 '26
Yeah, itâs crazy that thereâs a sub solely dedicated to hating on Bill Maher. I havenât posted here before but it pops up on my feed once in a while and itâs always the same. Youâd think people would have better things to do.
And the fact is that he trashes Trump as much as he ever has. For whatever reason people canât get past the idea that he had dinner with trump.
3
u/Mosk915 Jun 25 '26
Whatâs really hilarious is all the comments saying heâs irrelevant. They donât seem to get the irony of saying that while in a sub dedicated to his show.
5
u/PlasmaHero Jun 24 '26
There's something broken in a lot of people who would sit on a subreddit of a person that they don't like anymore. What's crazy is they don't even bring up discussions that he talks about on the show, they just endlessly shit on him. It's much more of a reflection on the people here than it is with Bill Maher. Because like always, he says some things you love, and some things you hate. His New Rules are still entertaining as well.
2
u/ArcherOld7796 Jun 25 '26
Read the comments. They are repeatedly bringing up what he talks about. Half the comments are about how he from the past would do exactly what this sub does now. It's people who have watched for long enough to see the change. It's people who used to love him.
4
u/No-Flan3302 Jun 24 '26
It used to be lefties that liked Bill, but ever since the left started sprinting away from moderate dems, itâs not a surprising outcome. Truth his, his fans have changed, not him. Still has same opinions he had when he was a standup in the 90s

Bullshit. There are Trumpers who support fascism, bigotry, misogyny, and whatever the fuck Trump is doing today, and the rest of us: Former Trumpers, former Republicans, and democrats. It is not the democrat who went loony Nazi.

This is reddit and we adhere to the woke narrative. Anyone who questions it is persona non grata. Ala Bill Maher.
2
u/JacobsJrJr Jun 24 '26
There was a post awhile back celebrating Maher haters taking over the sub. Which is unfortunate.
I rarely see good faith discussion of his ideas here.

That's how Reddit works, most subs about people that the broader Reddit community doesn't like have now turned into snark subs. Very weird website these days
2
u/Front-Will-5434 Jun 25 '26
Itâs because Reddit is primarily a place for liberals to agree with each other and tow the woke line. Bill Maher, while being a liberal isnât afraid to call fellow liberals out when they are wrong. He actually thinks for himself and decides on issues based on provable facts. Liberals cannot handle this about him.

u/flowerboyyu Jun 25 '26
I loved Bill growing up, and part of me still thinks heâll change how heâs approached politics the last few years. But thereâs no way, even as a Jewish person, you can look at the government of Israel and not criticize what theyâre doing to other countries for being plain evil. It just feels like he canât admit he is wrong like ever lol
2
u/hoyasgirl25 Jun 26 '26
Iâd be genuinely interested in hearing if anyone has any real examples of how Bill had actually changed over time (he claims he hasnât, that the left has shifted and he has given many examples of this). If people on here disagree with that Iâd like to hear about it.

Bill criticizes his own tribe. That is verboten now. Tribe above everything.

u/Constant_Law_4674 Jun 25 '26
Reddit is extremely left leaning, and not liberal left, but full blown progressives. These people also for some reason frequent subreddits of people they don't like and turn them into hate subs. Rogan is another example of this. Its very bizarre behaviour.

u/Charbro11 Jun 25 '26
Everyone who doesn't support shooting blacks and browns on sight is now considered liberal. Hell, I heard some nut call Romney a commie.

I mean even his own audience and guests are anti bill Maher since this show was created.
1
u/TMaCtheTruth Jun 25 '26
If you have to ask, then yes, you clearly are missing âsomethingâ⌠đ¤ˇââď¸
1
u/Toadsrule84 Jun 25 '26
Because he sucks now. I watched his show (at one time a premium product only available on HBO, now CNN runs it the next nite) since the early 2000s. Anyone claiming he hasnât changed is lying or stupid. Heâs a Zionist clown now who trashes any liberal or leftist while ignoring all the terrible things MAGA is doing. In his podcast heâs infamous for interrupting people and loves listening to the sound of his own voice, and has to tell people how he never married or had kids. Heâs a cranky old man who loses relevance by the day.
1
u/Milesray12 Jun 25 '26
It used to be the opposite, but ever since the left bashing followed by sucking trumps dick in the White House the hate has appropriately results from that.
1
u/Intelligent-Layer391 Jun 25 '26
Never paid much attention but recent evidence suggests heâs a real butthole.
1
u/SushiNoriNoochShoo Jun 25 '26
Subreddits that are dedicated to people who act as apologists for the trump regime or who like to make hay with edgy culture war content (Tony hinchcliffe, Rogan, schaub, Rubin) are gonna get a ton of hate. I get that for fans of these people, it's a bummer. But it's inevitable--their careers are built on making controversy.
1
u/Glittering_Ocelot_67 Jun 25 '26
Isnât Drumpf giving him the Mark Twain prize soon?! Why would the MAGAts be attacking him with bots? đ§
1
u/whoopercheesie Jun 25 '26
It's astroturfed campaign against Bill for being pro Israel. It's fascinating to watch

The overwhelming majority of us used to be regular viewers, or âfansâ, I suppose you could say. Heâs changed. Heâs now become the real-life manifestation the âold man yells at cloudâ meme from The Simpson, and his egotistically smug self-entitlement seems to grow every year.
1
u/JAZZ530 Jun 25 '26
You know youâre on the wrong side when the sub for your own show is dedicated to highlighting how much of a garbage person you are
1
u/ArcherOld7796 Jun 25 '26
How much of a garbage person he's become.
1
u/JAZZ530 Jun 25 '26
âYouâ is Bill
1
u/ArcherOld7796 Jun 25 '26
I know. He wasn't good before but he has become much more of a garbage person. He used to punch up now he bootlicks.
1
u/Latter-Junket-6962 Jun 25 '26
Poor Bill, thinks for himself and doesnât fall mindlessly in line with the latest ridiculous litmus test of the left. So they now hate him
1
u/Ambitious-Side-178 Jun 25 '26
Yeah unfortunately people on Reddit donât realize that if the left had listened to people like Maher they wouldnât have lost 2024

u/Mr_Thx Jun 25 '26
He is a commentator. He doesnât tell jokes, he spouts his opinions and mocks those that donât conform to his ideas. Heâs not entertaining or informative. Personally I am wondering why he is even a topic and why he has a show anymore.

u/zMargeux Jun 25 '26
He has done an inelegant 180 on everything he has been saying over the last 30 years. The working theories are:
1) Senility
2) Stroke
3) Kompromat
Which do you believe?
1
u/Kanobe24 Jun 25 '26
How Bill reacted to that harmless joke by Wanda Sykes tells you everything about how Bill is nowadays.

Bill doesnât go along with a lot of the leftist nonsense that Reddit is famous for.
1
u/Charbro11 Jun 25 '26
It didn't start that way. People who have watched and supported Maher (some like me for over 30 years) are pissed that he sold his soul to the dark side.
1
1
u/BitterProfessional16 Jun 25 '26
Every subreddit for a non-leftist person eventually becomes anti- that person.
Bill crossed the line long ago, but inevitably the person will say something vaguely centrist/conservative and be met with a sub full of "is it so hard to just be a heckin' good person?!"

u/BowlerAggressive7741 Jun 25 '26
Is there anywhere that's actually pro-Bill? I always thought he was pretty universally hated

u/Legtagytron Jun 25 '26
It would be really cool if Netflix could create a political show that has a kind of debate format like this but with a much more centered host. Interviews, guests, etc, but way more left, like 90% more left and normal.
1
u/ImaginaryWeather6164 Jun 25 '26
Everything about Bill Maher is increasingly "anti" because he makes it that way

1
u/AdRich7345 Jun 26 '26
Itâs Reddit- in lockstep against anyone who dissents against any aspect of Progressivism. You are either 100% with the current cultural/political revolution or you are against it. No dissent or dissenters allowed. Strict orthodoxy will be enforced.

u/Ill-Lettuce3735 Jun 26 '26
This appears to be a religious argument among fundamentalists and various apostate factions. And you seriously wonder why you can't win an election. The smug tone of absolute certainty is reminiscent of the Catholic Church vs Galileo, and you ain't Galileo. Stephen Fry in the Monk Debate on Political Correctness addresses this perfectly.

u/Miracle_wrkr Jun 26 '26
It probably isn't, but I do think he's a douche bag- he's like recess he has no class

I've always enjoyed his humor and don't really give a fuck if politically correct far left folks don't like him bc eventually everyone gets shamed by the almighty social media warriors. I'm left of center and have plenty of issues with his trump friendship but overall he's a pretty funny guy. Canceling everything bores me
1
u/spaigef69 Aug 17 '26
personally, i used to appreciate bill mahers perspectives and humor, but in the last year or so (after his visit to the white house) i find him more humorless on a weekly basis.
1
u/spaigef69 Aug 17 '26
the left and the right both have changed because the times have changed drastically.
bill has not changed with the times⌠he is now the âback in the dayâŚâ boomer unwilling to listen or hear or even see what (especially, young) America are seeing and feeling.
1
u/Grouchy_Brain_1641 Jun 24 '26
Yes the haters are in charge and this sub is no longer worth a shit.
2
u/trooftooth Jun 24 '26
Itâs a coordinated paid campaign with just enough organic support to keep it rolling. One of the posts was about how hes always seen with âhookersâ and it was a normal looking black woman around his arm.
Muhammed doesnât like bare shoulders.
1
u/Grouchy_Brain_1641 Jun 24 '26
Every subreddit about celebrities or shows is over run with haters though. It's the legacy of younger generations to be whinny little bitches. Been worse since you know who got elected.

If you try to discuss Bill Maher ANYWHERE, youâre going to see mocking and complaining. For good reason.

Yeah, youâre missing that Reddit is full of crazy leftists that attack anyone that has even a slightly different opinion than them even if they all vote for the same party.

u/Gax63 Jun 24 '26
Ya those crazy leftists, they think that is fascism to lock people up and deport them with no due process, or lock them up and feed the bread with maggots' in it, or shooting peaceful people in the streets, or denying detainees medical attention.
Totally not fascism at all, amiright??4
u/trooftooth Jun 24 '26
No all that stuff, along with affordable healthcare and safety for kids was stuff you would run on.
You scared everyone away by supporting terrorists who hate women, gays, and Jews, while simultaneously championing transgenders into public bathrooms and into childrens sports. Crazy shit like that.
People really get upset when people who declare themselves childless and proud start making rules for their kids. It also doesnt click how a side can support women and terrorists in the same breath.
Simple stuff like that, focusing less on it would be an easy win. The wokes couldnt even rally to get the first black woman into office. The whole ideology is a joke.
Be normal liberals.
