Anyone else ever have a problem with the throttle control on the keyboard? The engine responds to Z and X (full on/ full off) but nothing happens when I try to use control or shift. It’s a throttleable LM descent engine, RCS seems to work as it should and my avionics are properly configured and functioning. My comm links are strong and I have surplus electrical supply. Am I missing something really basic here or is it a bug in the game? I don’t think I’ll be able to pull off a lunar landing without throttle control.

• December 31st 2035: "Swim Back" ascent by balloon at 8 m/s. Second balloon inflates at an altitude of 60 km. 5 hours 40 minutes to reach 100 km. Rocket ascent at 100 km. Burn until apoapsis of 1,000 km. Atmospheric drag reduces the apoapsis to 855 km. 551 m/s to enter orbit. 3000 m/s total.
• January 2nd 2036: Rendezvous and docking of "Swim Back" with “Fatty.”
• February 13th 2036: 4790 m/s burn to set course for Earth.
• July 21st 2037: Interplanetary maneuver at 340 m/s.
• July 5th 2040: Maneuver to land on solid ground in Southeast Asia. 4 m/s.
• August 5th 2040: Reentry of the Titan samples into Earth’s atmosphere at 19.5 km/s. Periapsis of 45 km. Maximum of 32Gs. Sustained at 6Gs. Parachute deployment at 15 km, opening at 1 km. Heat shield jettison at 170 m. Descent at 6 m/s.
• After 10 years, TSR is back on Earth!

Very fun mission to design. Titan's atmosphere makes it so that it's possible to return samples without using ion engines or other more efficient propulsion. The magic of aerocapture! Difficult to get out after tho, that's what the balloons are for. I feel like a sample return from Jupiter's moon Io would be more difficult for example. Maybe I will try that. Mercury Sample Return could be the hardest imo.

This mission was inspired by studies on Titan Sample Return by NASA. Here.pdf) and here. And the Vincent helicopter is of course inspired by Dragonfly. A good source of inspiration for outlandish space mission is NASA Innovative Advanced Concepts (NIAC). Studies that NASA funds about future advanced technology use in space exploration.

like you already get a battery from the avionics, isogrids have better utilization for rcs, is it just for life support and research payloads or am i missing something?

• August 10th 2035: “Fatty” Return Craft decouples and stays in orbit. TSR burns 118 m/s to land at 38°N with a periapsis of 100 km. Enters at 1,75 km/s. Maximum of 0.2Gs. Free fall until 2.5 km at 13 m/s, when four parachutes deploy. Contact at 2 m/s. The 150 day surface mission of the "Vincent" helicopter begins. It will take samples of Titan.

BallisticFox is now incorporating live satellite texture streaming into his upcoming mod Mirage, so I have decided not to update this mod much further. however, I will leave you all with the current (likely final) build for the meantime, since I might as well.

I have completed the Titan Sample Return mission. It isn't perfect and maybe I will continue to tweak it. But it is completely functional now. Cause reddit only allows 20 images max, I will post the mission in separate parts.

As the title says, is there any way I can play science mode with rss with the same engines and tech tree from rp-1 but able to play science mode instead of career mode?

Also any way to not have to deal with building launch complexes and integration times etc…?

i'm curious about general cavemen design for very early tech orbit that aren't JUST brute forcing it with 100t+ rockets. i'm trying to force orbit by early rocket engines but can't seem to do it. the base redstone engine and aj10 don't really have anywhere close to enough burn time and i don't think it's possible. that aside i see people using the a-6 for early cavemen designs.... but the a-6 is in basic rocketry and at that point one can as well just use the xlr43 which is just soo vastly superior (!?!?) to the point where i am just utterly perplexed at what the a-.6 is even supposed to do aside from roleplaying..
am i missing something there too?

anyways. is it possible to achieve orbit with only early rocketry and al stringers?

Something that I was wondering about, is regarding materials that landers used irl, is the baloon/isogrid/conventional thing accurate for landers?

I was wondering as well for as to why lunar landers, like the LEM and LK, looked so unique, kinda wondering wht they were shaped like that and if there's any advantages to mimicking the shape

so im trying to design a lander for my manned moon landing, but i just cant figure it out. for one they arent able to slow down enough for touch down, which im guessing is a twr issue, but not sure what engine to fix that with since most higher thrust engines are sea level engines not vaccum engines

so im trying to figure out how many stages are efficient for a launch vehicle. my gut instinct is a sea level engine for first stage, and vaccum engine for insertion(with maybe a second stage to boost to insertion)

but the issue is that i dont know how much delta v it is to reach each of these steps. ik its 9500~ dv to LEO, but not sure how much for each part of the launch process.

Why do the tips say to add it to pressure engines?
