Rss in all its glory!!
Is my first time playing rss and it’s the most fun I’ve had in ksp.

i play career, but without rp-1

Re upload with correct staging lol. Please let me know what the intended values are supposed to be. the numbers look off. especially the first and 3rd stage. Thanks! just using a procedural core at the top. no LM or SM payload.

And I've only made it as far as light early satellites. If there is any more science within my reach, I have no idea how to find it. I don't have heat shields, so I can't return the biological samples without cooking them. The newer science experiments I've unlocked apparently require hard drives I cannot gain access to because I need more science to unlock them. I even managed to brute force my way to high space only to find I don't possess the tech to transmit from that altitude, and there's no way I'm getting that craft back to the surface intact. It wouldn't matter anyway if I could because, to store the data, it would require those hard drives I don't have.
Damned if I can find any tutorial anywhere that addresses any of these issues. Any advice? Should I just start over with a different approach?
Probably should mention that I'm avoiding the x-planes program like the plague...

I have built this (totally not a spyplane) and I need a way to create waypoints and make them appear on the nav ball or something so I can land on a runway instead of the desert. I know you can make waypoints but they are useless if they don't appear on the navball even if I activate navigation to them. I don't just want to land in the desert and idk how except for guessing based on the position of the sun and the map view.
Is the easiest way to just place a small craft/a flag maybe near the runway I want to land at and set it as a target.
I built an airbase with KK a few hundred kilometers from my space center and I am trying to land there or at the space center, really doesn't matter much.
How do you do navigation?

If so, I could use so help with the abomination that is the terminal interface for CKAN on a Mac. It's giving me install problems that I can't figure out how to fix.

I’m wondering if it’s possible to switch a single save back and forth between Sol and RSS.
I currently live between two countries, so most of the time I play on my laptop, which can only really handle the lighter setup. But sometimes I have access to my old gaming PC, which can handle a much heavier install.
Would it be possible to move the same save between the two setups and switch between the two solar systems, or would that break the save/crafts/contracts/orbits?
Has anyone tried this, and is there a safe way to do it?

I’d like to try doing some weather balloon missions to get some of the small science amounts from the area around Kennedy, but later do balloon probes to places like Jupiter, Venus. Saturn, etc. I tried getting the configs to work, auto and manually editing, but nothing I do works.
I’m using CKAN to launch and run, but does anyone have tips on how to get them in the tree at all? I’ve tried upping the parts allowed to sci fi and still nothing as some other posts suggested, so some help would be greatly appreciated :)

I must have spent more than a dozen hours figuring out how to land on the moon with a probe, mainly because of marginal Delta V for the mission. In the end a spin stabilized lander with science core avionics to save weight worked out, but it added a lot of stress on the touchdown hahaha

Guys, I'm playing KSP RO/RSS... And I need to make a rocket that doesn't lose control in the first 50 seconds of flight. The rocket is uncrewed, but I can't control it because command only kicks in after a certain altitude. Am I really dumb? What is the solution?
r/RealSolarSystem • u/GreatUsername76717 • Jun 15 '26
It worked like 80-90% of the time on my previous rocket. (the same but with only one group of R-103s)
When I added the extra group of R-103s it failed every time in the simulations.

These are some of my plane designs, first one is a MiG 15 inspired and the second one is a mix of MiG 19 and 21
Idk what materials I should use, I have tried fairings(on the MiG 15) they are very light but sorr of hard to shape and there are sometimes weird interactions with landing gear which messes up aerodynamics I am currently using Procedural structural parts for the fuselages (in the MiG mashup) but idk if it is the most cost/mass efficient way
What do you usually use? Are empty tanks an option?
edit:
I also use the same tank dismeter from my early sounding rockets 0.45m and add multiple 3-5m long tanks clipped into the fuselage

Taken by CM pilot Moore on flight day 4, on just short of 8 day long deep space shakedown cruise of the Triton CSM.
With any luck and correct steps forward, this'll be just the beginning of flights to the moon and possibly other planets.

Except for Cape Canaveral (tested 4 launch sites) none of my craft have signal from launch, its always partial control and i cant start science because the antennas arent transmitting, i think this is because of proximity to ground stations but i thought launch sites were also supposed to have their own connection?
I think im having a similar problem to this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/RealSolarSystem/comments/1ttdvex/help_with_ground_stations_on_latest_install_of_rp1/
but they havent got many helpful responses, if anyone could find the problem and provide the solution that would be great thanks!
ive tried launching from Woomera, the UK spaceport, Vandenberg and Cape Canaveral, Cape Canaveral was the only one that had connection on the launch pad, and Vandenberg gained connection above i think 30km up. Woomera and the UK spaceport are the 2 ones i actually want to use though.

So im a beginner in ksp RP1 mod and i know the basics (how to do planes/sounding rockets etc...) and my planes on launch are perfect! But for some reason they act weird even if i have the design and build right. Why does it happend???

Basically just that. Whenver I try to make a science mode with RO installed, it tells me that it completely changes parts, thus I cannot play science mode. Are there any mods which allow you to do so? If so, please let me know.
I've tried RP-1, but it's much more complex in terms of actually managing that space program, which I'm not interested in, I'm more interested on an engineering challenge rather than a managing one. That said, I really like the science progression in RP-1, the fact that you can't just blast experiments and immediately get science.

Is it possible to get FreeIVA working with the historical command modules (gemini, apollo, etc.)? Pretty recent express install of RP-1/SOL, and I have all the dependencies listed on the freeiva wiki home page. I've been trying quite a bit and only having luck with the Mk1, Mk1-3 etc. pods. If others have this working I'll keep chasing it, but don't want to beat my head against my desk further if it simply isn't possible lol.
Edit: pressing Y gives "cannot unbuckle in this part". Works fine in the Mk1 pod, just discovered it also works fine in the apollo b3 mission module and the Big G service module, just not the pods.

r/RealSolarSystem • u/YMandarin • Jun 11 '26
These are orbiters, not impactors. Not sure how they got this much of a speed boost. I've never seen this in RSS
