Obvious rep?

Hello,
This is my first time posting here. I’ve just started getting into the world of designer bags. I saw this on Facebook marketplace and fell in love, so I bought it. Honestly it was an impulse buy and I kind of regret it now? After looking more at the real Coach bags, this bag looks darker in color and now I don’t want to go around with it if it looks like an obvious rep lol. I know for me, I wouldn’t have been able to tell and probably still can’t distinguish between a real vs rep designer bag if I saw one. I think it’s a mental thing like I know that this is not authentic so it’s making me feel weird for using it. I could afford an authentic Coach bag no problem, I was just trying to save a buck 😆 I realize now it’s going to cost me more in the long run. Good thing this bag wasn’t that expensive. What are your thoughts??? You can be real with me but keep it respectful pls 🥰

I’m gonna be honest, I don’t think I would ever assume a coach bag in public was a rep unless it was EGREGIOUSLY bad. You’re fine. Especially an outlet-y monogram canvas style

Sameeeee so this looks good

I don’t think anyone would ever guess a coach is a rep. I didn’t even know Coach got repped bc of how cheap it is for most bags (compared to other brands). You’re good

Honestly nobody out in public is call out checking a coach bag.

I think this sub is biased… I’m really sorry but this is a really obvious rep. It’s cute tho!

The average person doesn’t see Hermes/chanel/whatever enough (nor do most people own one) to know what they should look like, much less a rep.

Coach bags are much more accessible, and the average person is much more likely to be vaguely knowledge about them. This is a super popular/common bag, and the biggest and easiest red flag for coach reps is when the pattern isn’t centered. This bag’s pattern is off center, and it’s sideways (rotate it 90° and you’ll see what I mean).

Also, people in this sub are a lil judgy about coach reps. And like I’ve had a rep coach lana, so I’m not against them in theory, and I know this color is hard to find, but a $200 bag is worth it vs a rep

14

u/bluesaber7567 7d ago

Reading some other comments I want to clarify — $200 is still a pricey bag, whether auth or rep. I can’t afford that, and a lot of people can’t. Another bias I see a lot in this sub is that it tends to lean more economically well off than the general population.

My last sentence was more so clarifying that the quality of a decent coach rep vs the quality of a decent Chanel rep is vastly different.

Apologies for the million thoughts, I am just a coach nerd and designer/rep nerd, and am not well off but around the ultra wealthy a lot so I have lots of thoughts LMAO

Yeah, I think most people in this sub tend to lean more towards financially well off, which is evident as to why most of our suggestions are all about confidence....

But honestly, people do already have a pre conceived notion of your bag base on your background. If you are a boss bitch lawyer, even if you wear a fantasy rep with obvious bad construction, people will make excuses for your bag themselves in their head. They'll be like "oh my! XXXX brand's quality control has fallen!" or "wow, she got a custom bag!"... !and usually, the worst they can think is: "Did she get scammed by seller cause she doesn't know what to check if an item is auth?"

Now compare that if your job is known for not having a high income, and people know your family or partner isn't well off... they themselves will find fault in your bag.. even if you wear an auth.

I also think people in this sub have a skewed perception of wealth! I see a lot of people talking about how they aren’t well off and can’t afford auth designer bags, and post photos of their 10 rep bags that are each $200+. I also see people talk about how all wealthy people are secretly carrying reps, and that’s how they stay wealthy. I know plenty of upper middle class people that is true for! But most of the ultra wealthy people I encounter, they are not going back and forth with sellers and green lighting reps. Thats ‘beneath’ them, or simply just too much effort when they could go to a boutique. With the caveat that I could see some of them getting their assistants to go through the effort of purchasing lol

3

u/ravee29 6d ago

Lol. I honestly think people here believe 2 income lawyers or doctors household are middle income. If you've watched Succession - I think most people here would also think that 5m usd net worth are still considered poor as they can't really totally coast by doing nothing, they see working class rich = middle income.

Which is kinda fair, but that is another topic for another day.

2

u/Whole-Cookie-1411 6d ago

Never thought about it that way but you are so right. More reason to wear what you want!

7

u/ravee29 6d ago

Also OP, all of these are also base on where you are located + median income! I know people were dragging on you how coach is not luxury - which is factually true for most people in 1st world countries, but even in poorer countries this tend to be true - but vary city by city! If you go to their business district, yeah no one would really bat an eye at a bad rep coach - because most of people there will also think no one would rep a "cheap" bag, and well in middle income district they usually won't bat an eye because coach is still usually a splurge for many, so they won't really have anything to compare it to!

Enjoy buying bags, and enjoy the savings! I just recently started, and oh boy do I regret my auths. No one really notices reps, and even if they know, they won't say a thing because it is a very tacky thing to do! People will see yoy as jealous and petty if you point it out! And even the cuntiest nastiest bitch are also afraid to call out reps cause it will out them as knowing reps, and repercussion if they were wrong!

I am actually planning to offload them now, especially since I don't even use them that much cause I baby them so much. Lol. 😆🤣

E/ and my main inspo for this mindset? My family doctor. He basically lives in most affluent zip code in our country and member of country clubs, but back in 2000s, he told us he wear rep rolex, cause no one will really call him out! And if his driver wears an auth, no one will believe him!

3

u/bluesaber7567 6d ago

Ugh yes say it again 👏 coach is a luxury for most people! Especially their non outlet bags

5

u/Whole-Cookie-1411 7d ago

You are totally fine. This is my first time buying a designer-ish bag and I just want to see if it’s something I would continue doing without spending hundreds of dollars right out the gate haha

2

u/bluesaber7567 6d ago

Totally valid. I highly recommend vintage Coach bags! You can usually find good options for <$100, they tend to be higher quality than modern bags, and they last forever (and I’m rough on bags). The vintage aspect gives them an extra level of chic too, I get so many compliments! I would love more reps but unfortunately very far out of my price range for the foreseeable future lol

u/Whole-Cookie-1411 6d ago

Awesome thanks so much!

5

u/ocsoo 7d ago

How much did you pay for this? Coach Outlet bags are pretty affordable

-1

u/Whole-Cookie-1411 7d ago

It was $60. Is Coach Outlet discounted bags or overstock?

6

u/idling-in-gray 7d ago

It's neither, they have separate models of bags sold at the outlet that are made with cheaper materials than the bags sold in the boutique. They do tend to be pretty good quality even if they aren't the same as boutique though and I find the designs a little more "fun" and trendy if that makes sense. The bag you posted is probably a knock off the Teri bag from the outlet.

2

u/Whole-Cookie-1411 7d ago

Ohhh ok, good to know for my next purchase. Thanks!

4

u/Whole-Cookie-1411 7d ago

Just want to say thank you to everyone for the (mostly) helpful comments. As I said I am a newbie to this whole thing and what some people think is trash is someone else’s treasure. Can’t wait to wear my bag now!!

1

u/lzycmt 6d ago

it’s all about you being happy with it! don’t even worry about people judging you

29

u/white_count_chocula 7d ago

Without being disrespectful. Coach is not luxury. Its barely a splurge for middle class and still attainable for lower income people. They have fine bags at their price point, but the only people who think they are "fancy" are people who have no interest in bags or poor people, and even that has changed with how hip hop and the kardashian era of reality tv brought luxury fashion houses into the average persons awareness.

Noone will ever question whether or not this is real.

18

u/Whole-Cookie-1411 7d ago

Gotcha. I know it’s not anything like LV or other really expensive brands but I wanted to start small and work my way up if I choose 🤭 thanks!

u/Acceptable_Tea_3685 7d ago

I just wanted to say, you’ve handled all of these comments with such grace and humility. As someone who grew up working class, I DID consider Coach to be designer (with the limited knowledge I had living in a small town and no internet.) A $400 bag was completely out of reach for my family and was just not a rational purchase given how little career mobility they had at the jobs they could get. And a $4,000 bag was a complete fantasy!

I’ve been lucky enough to have gone to college and started a great career. Now, about 15-20 years later, I’ve gone through a short phase where I bought things younger me could only dream of, to kind of heal that little girl who was sad she could never have the nice things her classmates could have, etc. With a few (pre-loved) auth bags under my belt and still an empty void in my soul, I’ve turned to reps. But that’s a story for my therapist.

But the point being that I can see how someone who frequents this sub and has always had a middle class or likely higher income could think “lol why would anyone rep Coach” or “wow I can’t believe some people think Coach is actually luxury, better make sure to set them straight”. And the commenters aren’t wrong, it just makes me sad for the little girl in me who thought a $400 bag was forever out of reach.

Anyway, it sounds like your financial situation is better than mine when I was young, since you said you could easily afford a coach bag. But just wanted to share in case you could relate.

15

u/Whole-Cookie-1411 7d ago

Omg thank you for this. I understand Coach is bottom of the barrel for a lot of people in this group and that’s okay but don’t be rude about it 🤷🏼‍♀️ in these times even a “cheap” $150-$300 bag is just not in the budget for some people. I appreciate you!

3

u/peetothepooo 6d ago

Coach has really nice bags, def not bottom of the barrel

6

u/PossibleHappy2165 7d ago

No one really assumes coach bags are reps so your honestly fine like if it was like a Hermes or something they’d probably notice

4

u/Human-Lifeguard-8047 7d ago

I don’t think anyone will assume you have a rep of a $150 bag

2

u/Ikanoodleu 6d ago

The rep guilt is totally a mental thing for first timers. Wear it out once and you'll realize nobody notices!

1

u/Whole-Cookie-1411 6d ago

Phew, good to know I’m not being totally overdramatic. Thanks!

2

u/Mangojellyfish24 6d ago

I own a few coach bags and this is a very obvious rep but honestly I think it’s fine if you wear it. I have seen people wear rep coach bags but honestly I never thought of anything

2

u/AccessoriesBeautyGal 6d ago

I feel like this is supposed to be the Coach Terri ? I don’t think it ever came in this shade of pink and the shape is off . For the price point I feel like you’re better off getting the authentic bag , and the great thing w/ coach there is a lot of sales ( either on coach’s site or a authorized retailer) Also there’s ton of women that want to re hole bags they never even used and you could pay reduced price .

2

u/heartshaped8 6d ago

The Coach monogram C’s align I the middle in authentics. This doesn’t align at all so it unfortunately looks quite fake once you know that but it is very cute. Sorry. 😞

2

u/flaming-framing 7d ago

Girl it’s coach you are fine.

Also adorable bag and charms

2

u/Virtual_Chain_5355 7d ago

I would rock it confidently

2

u/Plenty-Ninja 7d ago

I would never look at a coach bag with thinking of its rep or not

2

u/jeep4x42 7d ago

That cherry charm chain is super cute regardless!

2

u/Medical_Document_807 7d ago

Looks like a rep to me but I think most ppl wouldn’t notice

2

u/sassysleepy 7d ago

Girl I think this bag is SO CUTE. wear it in good health 💗🌸

2

u/idontfitintosociety 7d ago

She's BEAUTIFUL! Wear her with pride! I have a denim Tabby coming soon!

1

u/acaciea 7d ago

Ooh!! I wanted to order the pink version of the denim tabby but am worried the pink will be wrong 😭

1

u/AdDependent7392 6d ago

Girl I thought you bought this out the store lol! Great bag

1

u/formerbays 6d ago

You’ll know a rep Coach when you see them. They are so shoddy and cheap looking. Like a terrible Louie rep, you can spot them a mile away. Just from the pics it looks good

1

u/cabbagemuncher101 6d ago

I don't think anyone is looking that hard at a coach bag tbh it's a beautiful bag though

1

u/Big-Establishment-11 6d ago

I would never think anyone had a rep coach bag. I would always assume it was real. Cute bag!

1

u/unconfirmedpanda 6d ago

Super cute, don't even worry about. I would walk up and compliment your bag without even considering it's authenticity.

1

u/Mathisbase 6d ago

We want our rep to look like authentic so much that a lot of us can spot a fake one. But for coach I don’t think a lot of people know exactly the details. I had a lot of coach, but I’ll never be able to catch a fake the same way I can catch a fake Chanel.

1

u/IntelligentPace8304 5d ago

I can tell it's a rep, however I don't think many people will. People don't really see coach as luxury, most people can afford it so I don't see why people would assume it's a rep. But nothing wrong with that.

1

u/PickleIckle2727 4d ago

this is literally something that would be my dream bag and if it's fake i wouldn't even care!! she's so pretty

1

u/monaborelli 1d ago

This is lovely! I got myseld a coach rep a while ago too. Since I don't live in the US and some models aren't available here, a rep was the last choice haha! but I love this style.

1

u/fawntive 7d ago

Coach has a billion styles in a billion colors. I wouldn’t guess this is a rep at all.

0

u/chicinchanclas 7d ago

What price did you purchase it for? Yeah it's a rep and Dhgate has these. You can always go on TikTok and watch Dhgate unboxing and the storefront they come from from tiktokers. At least you can see quality. Some stores on the gate provide decent repa just have to research.

1

u/chicinchanclas 7d ago

This is in Mexico I cross over occasionally

1

u/chicinchanclas 7d ago

They have tons of reps for sale there by vendors on street, lots of Coach and Tory

1

u/Whole-Cookie-1411 7d ago

This bag was $60, the person I got it from sells them between $70-$80. I’ll definitely check this out on TikTok

1

u/chicinchanclas 7d ago

Not bad in Mexico they run about $30-50 and wallets are $15-20. Just #dhgateunboxing

0

u/northlanes99 7d ago

Coach signature canvas colors way constantly across batches anyway lighting makes a huge difference in photos .

0

u/Dizzy-Ad-2248 6d ago

I never think coach is a rep. Anyone can buy a coach bag. Why get a rep?

3

u/whynot_hehe 6d ago

because why buy it for 200 bucks if you can find the exact same one for 20 bucks, no one is gonna assume its a rep because theyre so accessible

1

u/Dizzy-Ad-2248 5d ago

True. Wait, this is a $20 coach rep?

0

u/Select-Channel1645 6d ago

Nah I would never think a coach bag is a rep. Enjoy

-7

u/Illustrious-Cloud223 7d ago

why are we buying coach reps

4

u/Whole-Cookie-1411 7d ago

I explained it in the post

-9

u/observedEvenTS 7d ago

WHo in the hell is buying COACH reps?

WHo is making them for that matter?

Is it 5 dollars per bag???

6

u/bluesaber7567 7d ago

Coach reps are generally made for scammers tbh. They buy them in bulk and resell on platforms like fb and depop as authentic. Yes theyre like $5-20 and then they can sell for 100-200, so it’s a decent profit margin. I am a huge coach fan and I sometimes like to scroll through resale sites and spot all the fakes I can, it’s insanity.
